Is This Australia's Best Rock Fishing Spot???

  • Steep Point is the most western part of the Australian main land and for land based anglers its considered to be one of the best rock fishing spots there is. When it comes to catching pelagic's off the cliffs few places can offer what Steep can.
    I was lucky enough to have a few free days and a booking was available in prime time. Josh, his son Jett and myself raced up to try out luck at catching some Mackerel and managed to sneak a few in past the sharks which are ever present.
    Gear used:

    Hi really appreciate the fishing fellers but I gotta say I'm concerned about the amount of really strong braided line now being pulled around by who knows what getting caught around killing other marine animals etc, I understand it's bloody hard when they run so far but it's the consequences that the environment suffers for our sport, we need to make fishing line that eventually dissolves after being continually wet for a day or so hmmm not a bad idea. Also just to let u know my mate has a 45ft catamaran that ran over fishing braid and it tore out both shaft seals on his transmission and he was left in a really shit situation having to be towed before smashing on rocks in Western Aussie he also had a young family on board. Thanks for ur vlogs ur awesome fishos. 🎏🎣

    • @sensiblynumb
      @sensiblynumb 6 месяцев назад +1

      my thoughts exactly. Consequences of fishing light gear and not correctly accounting for target species. If they spool you once they will do it again. You need a bigger outfit that can handle the fish.

    • @DixonsFishing

      300 would be minimum. Mostly 150-200m out for balloon and then line to fight fish. Most people have 500m+ on ballooning reel

      Thanks for the feedback, always happy to receive criticism when it’s constructive. Certainly wasn’t my intention to loose any line at all and that would be the worst trip I’ve had for loosing line. Normally every now and then I’ll hook something to big and have a reel emptied but this was just unlucky and them breaking at the reel instead of the far end like normally happens.

      Going in there isn’t nearly as bad as it seems. I freedive off the cliffs a lot and the sharks come up to you but don’t bother you only the fish. There is also a low ledge you can get out from about 50m to the right from there which with how calm it was would of been safe to climb out there. Different story at other spots or the south coast that’s for sure.
