Are you kidding? I'm from Greensboro, NC. O. Henry is required reading in middle and high schools there. "The Ransom of Red Chief" and "The Gift of the Magi" are two of the top stories taught. The movie _Ruthless People_ is a far more cynical, hilarious take on the same thing.
