I really like the Ironcraft equipment. They make a standard duty rock grapple that would pair well with the 574. The backhoe would help digging up any stubborn boulders but I don’t think it would be real efficient using it to pick and move… however you definitely could with a thumb

We used to clean and grade ATV trails on a property rented by an ATV club. We had a local logger who would deliver wood chips to us, which we used to pave the trails. This not only created nice trails but also helped control erosion. If we needed to close a trail for any reason, the wood chips would decompose over time, allowing the trail to return to its natural state.

    Love this video !
Many of us have to make do with what we have. We have to tackle big projects with the wrong piece of equipment or a piece of equipment that's too small.
I had to make a parking pad for an auto transport with nothing but an 8n tractor and a back blade. At the bottom , I had to move about three feet of dirt. I must've went up and down that hundred foot driveway a thousand times ! I eventually got it done though. It's so convenient being able to park at home instead of renting a spot elsewhere.
If all you had was a spud bar and a spoon , you'd still get it done.
Stay patient and keep plugging at it. Whenever you drive down that road, you'll always get that satisfied feeling of knowing how difficult the project was and how nice the results are.

When I had my place in Indiana, a lot of people used shredded roofing shingles as driveway surfacing. Roughly an inch by 4 inches or thereabouts. As a younger man, I went to the roofers with a trailer and frequently they had the shingles shredded already and would let me take them for free so they didn’t have to pay for hauling. I don’t know if that’s something that’s possible in your area. But after one hot summer, you had a really neat patterned, multicolor asphalt driveway, basically or a pathway. Just something to think about. The melting action from the sun was enough to make it one solid continuous surface.

  • @1ltlbrnc

So I have a 75hp loader and my 40hp tractor, but we also bought an older Komatsu dozer 18 years ago because we had a lot of material to move. That dozer has saved my poor tractor and bucket so much abuse or just plain and simple wear. Just like a mini excavator is worlds above a backhoe. A dozer is worlds above a tractor with any attachment when it comes to moving compacted material and the control you have while moving material. A mini is good, but a dozer will be great. You can cut the grade and slope as you work the material. Push the rock into piles to move with your tractor. A six way blade on the dozer makes popping rocks and stumps out of the ground easy. Every time I think about selling the dozer another project comes up that the tractor can do, but not as easy or as well as the dozer. Rent or borrow one and you will not believe how much easier you can get the job done. There's a learning curve, but it is not too bad. I have an operator buddy I call when it's a project that needs to be just right.

I think it will look great once it is done! Leaving some of the rock uphill should help with runoff. Much safer for your wife to walk on as well. Heck I almost hit a runner who was all in grey and black head to toe. He was a really tall skinny marathon looking runner and I never saw him until I was on him. He blended into the road and trees! Hi Brock. At the very start of the video, you pushed a cube shaped rock. That could be used for a stone wall or in a building. Any thin, flat rocks could be utilized for a field stone fence or walkway.
If you have a string of warmish, sunny days coming, cover your dirt pile with tarps. This will create a mini-greenhouse and take the frost out of the dirt.
Great project, lots of work, but the end result will be worth it.

You will really like having access and use of all your property when you are done with the trails. In my view since you are only clearing a one lane width my choice of equipment would be midsized track hoe with the steel tracks. Then just use the tractor to haul fill dirt to smooth out the road surface. As far as what to put on the roadway surface. I would just smooth it out best I could with dirt and spread some native grass seed and let her go……. There is nothing that you would use that part of your farm for that would justify a big investment in gravel for this road/trail that I can see. I really like the area for its views and being remote for a walking/ATV trail use.. that’s some time consuming work but well worth it!! Hope you have a great week!! 👍👍🔥🔥

Rock Hill needs a Rock Bucket :) I strongly suspect the name of your farm is appropriate for my property in Jefferson County Missouri. I will find out soon as my T574 is delivered tomorrow or Monday and I will start managing this land better. I got the flat bottom style, Economy Root Grapple, from ironcraft specifically for stuff like this. I might add a few more ribs to the bottom to make it more like a rock grapple. Also got the backhoe with the TYM anticipating needing to dig some rocks out.
P.S. SO glad you have a grill guard watching this.
EDIT: Watching that bucket bend when you went at that dirt pile makes me wonder how much better the reinforcement of the piranha tooth bar might help, especially the pro with its harder metal. The bevor adds teeth but doesn't look like it reinforced the edge that much. Though I know the TYM material bucket is a bit on the thinner side to maximize material capacity.

tbh id consider logging the hill and crushing it all , add grass for stabilizing it against erosion, till in manure and add some wood chips for organics and you have a good agrarcultural area for grain, vegetables or berries, maybe plant fruit trees

People always tell me what I should rent, but I can never find any of it actually available to rent in my area.
Pretty limited in small rural areas the types of equipment you can get access to
If you’re willing to spend enough, you can get equipment shipped in
