When u get like 90 research on a main twisted, get their mastery toon ( i mean like toodles cosmo and brightney ), you will definitely encounter them and get their mastery too, but if its shelly or astro just try to get more research. Im not sure on the christmas toons as your gonna have to grind 24/7 for the next week
In fact, progressing through the game is easy, I started playing about 10 days after the Christmas event came out and now i have bobette,plebbe,vee and shelly In research i only need astro and sprout they are at 82/75 is really easy with rodger but it take some time :)
Imo the shelly map is the worst map in this game. It becomes so slow with bad machines layouts or more than like 4 twisteds on the floor. I play solo rn for the research grind and its where i died most often because theres like 2 islands to break off twisteds with.
For my grinds ATM I'm using Rudie with Ghost Snakes in a Can and Icing because it allows you to keep away from most twisteds, especially if you get both the cool down reductions.

Try getting toodles for mastery so you don't need to worry about One of the pebble requirements
