      We started planting trees in memory of family members who had passed. Then at the request of our children we started planting a tree of their choosing for them. Now, when they visit they often remark about how big their tree is. When our first grandchild arrives this coming year, he will learn about the family trees and the stories that go with them. It is better than a scrapbook.

    We had 38 oak trees on our property. They were about 250 years old. I never grew tired of sitting under the mighty oak canopy and thinking about all they’ve seen. We also had the pleasure of watching a great horned owl raise her baby and watched her teach it to fly.

    Aaron is NOT wrong!😄 My certified arborist told me to never put any soil on the top of the root ball, and anything you mulch with should contain only composted tree parts, and even that should never be placed up against the trunk. My horticulture classes taught me to plant with the top of the root ball level with the soil (including mulch), and only backfill up to the sides of the root ball, never on top of it. The trees sure do add a lot of beauty to that space!

    • @saras9840
      @saras9840 Год назад

      Agree with you, but Aaron is planting way above level with the existing soil and then levelling up with the mulch. Won’t dry mulch sap the top few inches of the root ball. The native soil appears to be very dry so any irrigation malfunction may be disastrous…

    • @MarylineMallet
      @MarylineMallet Год назад

      @@saras9840this is what I have red too… he should mount (cover the roots in a pyramid shape with top soil, not mulch :s ). Then he can put the mulch. What i’ve red is that mulch/compost does not retain enough moisture for the upper roots which are important for the tree. Mulch and compost are not the same as top soil…. I do hope they do okay!

    • @lauriespiker5952
      @lauriespiker5952 Год назад

      @@saras9840 It looks like he's planting them only a couple of inches above the existing soil level, which is good foresight if he expects the eventual surrounding soil level to be a little higher than it is. The only problem I see is covering the top of the root ball with soil -- the backfill should only be brought up next to the sides of the rootball, not on top of it.

    You know what I love so much about watching Laura & Aaron plant these trees is knowing that when Laura talks about a tree getting 50+feet high you know that won’t be for at least 15-20 years (depending on the tree). So they’re not really planting for them to enjoy anytime soon. They’re planting for their golden years, their kids future, etc. Sometimes it feels like gardening is a really selfless way to spend your time on earth. All your hard work and love is going into a future you might not be around to enjoy but you know as a gardener that someone sometime in the future is going to love what you’ve created and think about the people who created it (even if they don’t know who they were). It gets me teary eyed.

Both parents are able to be home with children and so they grow up working and playing with both parents. They learn a great work ethic and a love of the land. They learn charity as they see you gift the children’s hospital. Etc. You have other family nearby , your parents, siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. You live in a smallish town where you run into people you know and even went to school with when you go to town. It is a great life. When you talk about moving to a different location sometimes, you don’t realize what it is like to not know anyone. You never walk into a store and run into an old friend or come home to find a sister or brother already at your house to greet you I’m glad you seem to have decided this is the right place to be.

      Beautiful backdrop shots, the flower garden, trees, and white fence, are so pretty!
      Had to chuckle at the difference between Oregon locations. S. Ore. has soo many oaks. I have to constantly rake leaves...not my favorite. Do love the dogwood and redbud, their beauty especially in the Spring are breath taking! Can't wait to see this planting then. And the dark mulch makes it pop! And also makes it look like it has been there for some time!

    I watched the whole video, smiling at Laura and Aaron’s enthusiasm over the “new” property and their plans for it but those two precious children at the end tugged at my heartstrings so hard, I got misty-eyed. ❤️

    Oh my, your properties are looking beautiful. I love when you ride from one point to the other and we get peeks of areas we haven't seen in a while. It is looking amazing. I can't believe it has come so far. I have been here since the beginning of your channel, and I used to laugh when you would move something around in the flower beds. I would say "Come on Laura, put it in, don't take it out." You know what you are doing, all at once, it all comes together. I love going back in the old videos and seeing how much it has changed. Also, the children, are growing up so fast. Have you been putting fertilizer on them?😂😂💛👏

    The kids are just too cute. It’s fun watching them grow and explore. Laura, you just inspire me. I have a different shape yard. I have an extra yard by the river that gos by our house. We’re on the high side, so it never floods. If I had my way, I’d add some of those nice shrubs you are planting with flower beds, less mowing. I can’t seem to convince my husband though. I am working on a slope by that area. Hurt my knee early this spring so didn’t get it planted. I’ll be cleaning it off now to get it planted next spring. Well, have a great day.

    Wow!!!! I am so excited for you and Aaron with this new property. How exciting to do fall projects with the kids where you can take those beautiful leaves and press them in books to make artwork . I would love to have all those different trees where I live, but that's not possible. You guys are so wonderful. Thank you for doing what you're doing.
