  • The Ancient Christian Prayer of the Desert Fathers has been used by the church for generations both as a meditative tool and as a group prayer in Christian communities, most notably developed in the Orthodox Church. Bishop Simon, a leading expert on the prayer, talks about the history of the prayer and his own discoveries which led him to write his first book. The film gives the viewer at home an opportunity at the end to join in praying The Jesus Prayer together.

May Bishop Simon rest in peace. Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on him.

He's even making money out of Orthodox practice. If you want o begin learning about the Jesus Prayer go to Orthodox sources: this Protestant will only lead you astray I'm afraid. Very sad to see.

Fear Monger... The so-called "Orthodox" do not believe the eschatology of the Apostolic Fathers. Without a proper end-goal, your theology aims on the wrong target.

It is unhelpful to call this protestant a "leading expert on the Jesus Prayer". He may well study Orthodox practice but unless the prayer is used within the sacramental life of the Church then the user can make no claim to fully understanding it. It is an understanding of the heart, something those outside of Christ''s Church cannot begin to grasp. It isn't useful when {Protestants approach the Church with their pick and mix philosophy: either accept Orthodoxy or leave these things alone. Don't dabble and then set yourself us as an expert.

Exactly. When Jesus hears this guy praying "have mercy on me" he thinks: "This man is anglican, I better cover my ears. And now I send my spirit to the orthodox, that they become full of love. For Putin"

    • @PastorJC
      @PastorJC 7 лет назад +7

It is foolish of you to focus on the Bishop's external alliance with "Protestantism" rather than focusing on His personal union and relationship with Lord Christ. God is more than your little sacramental box and claims...

jpage99999 Total BS. The Scriptures clearly says that "whosoever calls on the Name of the Lord SHALL BE SAVED." Anyone who calls on the NAME of the Lord, believing, SHALL BE SAVED. How dare you try to regulate the saving grace of Almighty God??

    • @Erdnussspass

jpage99999 I think the orthodox church is causing unbelievable harm because it never managed to get independent from the state. This church supports dictators like Putin and badmouthes civil-rights activists. It blesses tanks and weapons and is so hopelessly divided that its patriarchs aren't able to meet in a council. This church clearly is in a spiritual crisis. And now read Matthew 7:3.

See? As Lord Jesus said: "You shall know a tree by its fruit." Like Saul of Tarsus, you are filled with an irrational zeal that consumes you. This is not about "Sola Scriptura," this is about the foundational teachings of The Church- which are found in the Scriptures. The plain sense of the Word says it all: "Whoesoever calls on the Name of the Lord shall be saved." The Pharisee gets angry because he likes to be the "middle-man," but thanks be to God, we have only ONE MEDIATOR between God and Man- JESUS CHRIST. And whosoever calls on the Name of the Lord SHALL BE SAVED.

The true Eastern Orthodox Church always seems to leaves it spiritual imprint on those who are naturally profound in character.

I found this very informative and delightfully presented. Bishop Barrington-Ward is the perfect teacher being eloquent, softly spoken, and kindly. The information imparted right at the end by Helen Orr was a surprise and very touching.

I went to a Talk that Bishop Simon gave on the Jesus Prayer at a church on Old Marylebone Road about 15 years ago. And not long after I returned to the Greek Orthodox Church. May Almighty God bless him and his family. Can anyone remember which year this was,?

When someone is introduced and enlightened as to the true Faith that Jesus HIMSELF established, should not consider it OK to reject it. If you do not know is one thing, as The Apostle Paul says in this case maybe excused.
Not adopting the true faith knowingly may bring a curse upon that person. Nevertheless, such matters belong to God Only, as HE is The Only Righteous & ALL KNOWING JUDGE!!!

very practical and beautiful...an easily done practice to open an intimacy with our maker....if everyone did this at times each day, we might have Heaven on earth. : ) and your last (revealing) sentence was such a powerfully loving ending - so beautiful!

Mark 1 : 9 - 11 "In those days, Jesus came from Nazereth in Galilee and
was baptized by John in the Jordan ; and as soon as he came up out of
the water,he saw the heavens being driven asunder and the Spirit coming
down upon him, as a dove might come down ; and there came a voice from
Heaven, "You are my beloved Son ; I am well pleased with you."
