Wow-thank you for respecting airline staff. I’m a flight attendant & it absolutely does make a huge difference in how you are perceived and/or treated.
My Mom as a military spouse traveled from one end of the world to another with children in tow. The oldest of ten children she was amazing with ensuring first we did dress properly to the airport for traveled. We were well mannered and each of the older ones had younger ones to pair up with. It was amazing as I look back how well organized she was for us. We boarded the airlines with acknowledging the stewardess with a brief hello and thank you when we deplaned. We settled into our seats and how she knew to ensure especially from Hawai’i to Germany to travel with coloring books and snacks for us. Then you could take food onboard also, so she would pack sandwiches to mini ceral boxes. We were prepared for our landings with ensuring we combed our hair to ensure our clothing was fixed. I am still this way traveling minus the mini ceral boxes. I truly believe this show not only respect for yourself but the appearance or reaction of others to assist would be better appreciated. I know we must have been such a site to see this one Mom with us in tow in the terminals. She was an amazing traveler whether air, ground or train. Which we did all of this. Thank you for pointing this out of being respectful. Mom always noted to dress well did not mean to have loads of money.. As long as your clothes were cleaned and ironed (yes ironed that I do to this day) with your appearance cleaned up then you have everything.
I’m also a veteran and military spouse. I’ve also lived on Guam and done many 35+ hour travel days alone with children. While I disagree about wearing denim, I agree no one should be traveling in their pajamas and flip flops. Joggers, slip on shoes, a long cardigan, and simple v neck tee shirt are my go to for travel days. I never wear jewelry and avoid looking too “expensive”. I’m not interested in looking like a target for scammers or pickpockets. I prefer to stand out less. I don’t want to be noticed for anything good or bad. Neat, clean, comfortable and presentable is my goal.
What you said about dressing well!! Yessssssss! Ive been upgraded to first class twice by airline staff and I swear it was due to my outfit. In addition, airport staff has complimented me on my travel outfits! You are so spot on! My J. Crew Pixie pants are my pant of choice when traveling but I’m heading over to check out the Brooklyns! As an aside, thank you for NOT filtering or blurring your face! Its so important to be thankful for aging and you do it wonderfully!
Agreed! I grew up in the era where travel was an “event”…we dressed stylishly…that was 50 years ago but I still prefer to look polished and neat. And I too have been “bumped” to first class twice…pretty sure my appearance helped! 😎
What wonderful suggestions and spot on. You mentioned not wearing skirts very often. I try to wear a long one every trip because of “co-ed” bathrooms. With a skirt I can pull it up and tuck it under my chin so that I don’t have to worry about a disgusting, wet floor!
Your outfits are classy and comfortable. I have seen adults at the airport looking as if they just got out of bed: messy hair and in pajamas. I was raised in Colombia where women dress up no matter where they are going. One can be stylish and comfortable at the same time.
Helpful variations on my long-time air travel formula. For those 15-hour flights, I start with a shelf bra cami, topped with a tee and a knit jacket. I always add a long scarf or pashmina to cuddle up if there's a long layover. Thanks for the tips!
You just dropped into my feed and I'm SO GLAD you did! I'm traveling to Europe in 10 days and this gives me some inspiration for my wardrobe! I'll definitely be watching more of YOU. Thank you!!
Hubby and I like to dress up when traveling also. We even got upgraded from premier seating to business class from Heathrow to San Diego on British airways 5 yrs ago because my hubby was smartly dressed and looked very European instead of dressing like the typical American tourist. We were getting ice cream after dinner in Paris and after saying Bonjour, the lady start speaking to me in French. Maybe it’s the way I was dressed and the way I said Bonjour. I had to say in my limited French that I spoke une peau Francois, desole. 😊
Thanks, Beth, for these classy and comfortable outfit ideas with practical planning information, too. Enjoy your Paris adventure with your daughter-in-law! 😊☀️💺🧳✈️❤️
All your outfits are classy and sheik! I particularly like the monochrome black outfit with trenchcoat that you will be wearing on your plane trip to Paris.
Great tips. If you do slip on shoes and don’t have TSA clearance so need to take them oof at the airport, consider something you wear socks with. Super gross to walk around barefoot through security.
I constantly see feet everywhere since about a decade ago. I feel the same about people walking around a city wearing rubber thongs/flipflops. Cities are dirty. All I can think is "I hope they wash their feet before getting in bed". I am guessing most do not.
Not wearing socks or nylons is gross regardless. Especially closed toe shoes. Yuck. To me, it's only acceptable in the summer with sandals for a casual occasion.
Thanks so much , planning to to France, and Spain this year. I haven't flown international before. These are appreciated tips, finally have the time , I'm a Retired Nurse starting to live my best life . ❤
One time my husband was traveling by air and he needed to go through security 4 times on his trip. At the time he had a full, untrimmed beard and he decided to shave his head!!! It was summer and he wore cotton slacks with sandals (no socks of course). He was "randomly" selected by security for each for those 4 flights for an extra search and pat down. People do judge you by your looks whether they realize it or not.
What do you mean: "no socks of course"??? If I don't wear socks my sandals stick to my feet, causing them to burn. Very painful. My podiatrist told me to spray my feet with deodorant then put socs on. A necessity.
Kudos to you for acknowledging the issue of respect and travel today. I agree with you - well-dressed and well-mannered will take you far! Wonderful outfit ideas!! I just purchased the cashmere hoodie.
Love this video! And I can’t believe you are showing the VB blazer! I have been looking at purchasing one- I am grateful for you & sharing your knowledge, Blessings, Mary k
Great suggestions for travel! I do question the comfortability of the last outfit, though. It seems too short to sit and change positions for a longer flight. Have a safe and fun trip!
Beth what a great video! I just loved all your selections. I just recently traveled & always notice the smartly dressed people . I also notice the people who look like they are traveling in their pajamas . There is no reason for that . Have a wonderful trip , can’t wait to see the pics.
Hi Beth! Wow that will be a fantastic trip. Those are my type of clothing! Every outfit was perfect on you. Everybody could love the look on themselves. Have a blessed week and safe trip!
Enjoy Paris it's wonderful! What a nice place to spend your DIL's birthday. I love these outfits except for the dress. I would never fly in a dress, especially a shorter one because I wouldn't want my bare legs touching the seat.
Hi Beth! All great looks for traveling by air! Showing respect for yourself and your fellow travellers! I was just in Paris in early October and the weather was still wonderful! Have a fabulous time with your daughter in law!!
What a wonderful Birthday gift! PARIS! These outfits are stunning. I use to think wearing sweats on the plane was the best, however now I love to dress well and I know that I can still be comfortable. I agree it shows respect and class, most especially as we are aging. Loved this 🙌🏻🍑🧡Lisa
Bon voyage Beth and daughter-in-law❣️I usually wear comfortable stretchy black pants on a plane with black flat shoes. I wouldn’t choose denim because they wouldn’t be comfortable for me on a long flight. Have fun and pack light❣️🥰💕✈️
I got a matching set of navy joggers and tie-waist cardigan in 90:10 cotton:cashmere from H&M Premium. I plan to wear this on my next long flight, unless it’s in summer. I can overheat in pure cashmere, so this is a great fabric for me. I’ll wear it with my white silk, tank or knit tee, and a silk scarf, in case it makes my neck irritated. (I wear and travel in white/cream all the time and rarely get spots or dirty). I probably wouldn’t wear joggers except as a matching set and in basic color like this, it looks pretty polished and not gym-like at all. I want to be perfectly comfortable, wear all-breathable fabrics, but look put-together and intentional. I’l, wear sneakers, of course, with it, and might look for a special new pair for the outfit, but I’ll break them in a bit at home first, just to be sure of their comfort. All the items can, and will, be worn on repeat in my travel capsule, they’re all pretty basic. Navy is “my black”, black makes me look ill, it gives me navy-blue shadows under my eyes and makes me look even paler than usual.
One thing is practical, but I also want stylish. And you are right, airline personell look at what you wear. If they need to upgrade someone the outfit is everything. I have flown for Scandinavian fo 25 years and I know what they look for. I’d rather sit in Bussiness class in a little less comfortable outfit than a long haul flight in sweats or something similarely comfortable. The companies can’t upgrade you if it doesn’t look like you can afford the ticket.
All such great outfits Beth. Athleta pants have been my go to for travel for so many years! I love that they have different lengths. I was In France a few years ago in late November and it was cold. Definitely needed my wool coat and gloves and a scarf at times. And for sure my waterproof winter leather booties because it did rain. Have a great time! It is my favorite city!
This was a great video, I’m heading to Florida this week so it’s timely your video popped into my feed. I’d like to add that besides looking classy and chic, I also choose my airport outfit with safety in mind. Shoes that I can run in, never a skirt or shorts since the less bare skin the better, and typically non flammable fabrics.
Great tips! My dream--going to Paris. I would go with the trench coat assemble. Hope you will share some details of your trip--like what you saw in street fashions.
Great suggestions! You look especially beautiful in this video. The lip and cheek colors look gorgeous on you. Banana Republic also has a great pair of pants called BR Sport. I got mine on clearance for $30.
Totally agree travelling with comfort and class. I travel extensively worldwide and most important is layers. Wear comfortable bra and panties especially on long 10+hr flights. It’s worth buying quality clothes that mix and match and breathable. One item I never travel with is “jeans” personal choice. I have seen my fair share of travellers dressed in pyjamas to super tight and revealing yoga wear.
Wow some fantastic ideas there Beth. I’m going on a 3 hr train journey soon so you’ve given me some great ideas. You look great in all of them. Thank you. X
great video and outfits, Beth. My fav was the trench coat look. Would love to see what you pack and the luggage that you plan to take. Happy and safe travels! Please do a video on your stay in Paris(on my bucket list).
Have a wonderful time in Paris. I'm from Canada and we just got back from Mexico. On the plane I wore my black 'Wonderstretch Straight Leg pants' from Nic+Zoe. They do stay in shape and still look great after hours of being stuck in those airplane seats. Lightweight Keds trainers, black running jacket from Athleta that looks almost blazer like and does not wrinkle at all. Kelly green short sleeve knitted top in silk/linen. On the flights south it's always very warm on the plane. I put another linen top in my carry-on, just in case I was getting to warm and I wanted to change. We left our puffer jackets with the person who drove us to the airport. He brought them again when he picket us up. I love your travel outfits, but found the dress a little short for the airplane. I do not like my thighs to touch the airplane seats. The plane we were on had faux leather seats and one would stick to them.
Love the outfits and plan to borrow a style suggestion for my next 1st class flight to Vegas…I love to look sharp on a plane!!! But a question: in general…cuz it’s different at EVERY airport and what time of day you travel…will the TSA agent expect you to remove that gorgeous blazer in order to get thru the gate? I know it’s a layered ensemble with a cami underneath…but would the blazer be considered a jacket and have to be removed? I am TSA-Pre…but others here may not be and that piece may affect their clothing options…no one likes to get any more naked than absolutely necessary at that darned screener cage…nor do we want to hold up the line behind us. Better to know what to expect than not…thanks for the wonderful suggestions!💕
Loved them all and hopefully your time in Paris is wonderful! I live in the midwest and often travel to see my kids in NYC so generally a large, long, puffer coat is pretty much the way I must go. The Veronica Beard blazer is just adorable but when it's winter in this part of the country, I need my Marmot or my LL Bean extra long coats both at take off and landing. Christmas will be in Vienna which is so exciting and again, puffer coat is a necessity. Thanks Beth. I'd love to see your favorite cold weather options.
Hi Beth, as a woman of a certain age, I love your tips and encouragement. Please keep doing everything you are doing! Several months ago you featured a red light therapy mask and I neglected to make note of your recommendation. Could you please provide the name of that product again? Thank you very much!
No denim for me, jeans are the most uncomfortable garments ever, for me at least. I ‘m 62, and I just found my first pair ever that fits, in the men’s department, but I can’t say they’re either comfortable or flattering. I must have a stretchy waist and prefer knit trousers, or a dress/skirt outfit. A knit blazer is more comfy than a woven, lined one. I’ve never been cold on a plane, I’m usually too warm in most places. I do always wear socks while traveling.
Said it before and saying it again. This is my favorite hairstyle on you! Thank you for the suggestions. I logged a lot of miles before retiring and generally wore suits when flying as I was headed to business meetings. You are right, the airport staff and flight crew do treat you with added courtesy. The only thing where I differ is the dress. I don’t like my skin to touch the seats. I know I sound like a germaphobe but it is just uncomfortable to me. I prefer capris or linen slacks. Thankfully I don’t have to use the loo even on long flights, but I understand many do so always get a window seat then I don’t have to get up and down to let others out.😊
thank you for this lovely video. I am careful of traveling in denim jeans. I don't wear tight jeans and I'm tall, but once, on a long haul flight, my legs started swelling and tingling. I was desperate to take them off and had no back up bottoms in my hand luggage. eventually a very kind air hostess took pity on me and gave me a pygama bottom from business class ( which I returned after the flight)... so please be very careful of jeans, when traveling economy.
Beth, you skin looks beautiful. I know you had a Blenheim but did you have derma-planing also, or just lightened up your make-up? What lipstick are you wearing? Also, thanks for the travel wardrobe suggestions. Thanks.💞🌸
No derma-planing. And my makeup switches up from time to time. Typically, I wear a heavier foundation when we film a RUclips video. But on a daily basis it's fairly light.
Whether I'm traveling or not, I often wear Athleta bike shorts under my dresses. Prevents chafing and provides two secure pockets. Athleta clothes last forever. I've never regretted a purchase.
Wow-thank you for respecting airline staff. I’m a flight attendant & it absolutely does make a huge difference in how you are perceived and/or treated.

It’s one of my favorite travel outfits. Truly comfortable.
Yes, and what if you have to use the slide to exit the plane in an emergency. I'd rather not do that in a dress.
I would not want my bare thighs on the airplane seat. That one is too short for me to fly in.

Thanks for sharing!
Ms Beth im an avid fan im 60 fr Philippines,i also love to travel like you hope to meet you in one of your FUTURE FLIGHTS💓🥰🤩🤩
I have a wool Pancho that I like because I can wear it as a coat or I can use it as a blanket. Not as bunglesome as a coat.
Have a lovely time in Vienna! It's a beautiful city. I just released a video on winter essentials. I hope you have a chance to check it out.
Hi Beth, as a woman of a certain age, I love your tips and encouragement. Please keep doing everything you are doing! Several months ago you featured a red light therapy mask and I neglected to make note of your recommendation. Could you please provide the name of that product again? Thank you very much!
Love those APL shoes. A little expensive for me, but....
Understandable, but they will last a lifetime.
Love the ankle pants, but would you wear them with compression hose??? I see your ankles are bare in some outfits and I would freeze.
so glam. Great ideas, great legs!
Great video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Love it she’s sooooooo middle class - son on gap year 👏👏👏
You look great!
Oh thank you!
No backpack and sneakers for me. I travel in style in my very comfortable high heels.I recommend LB's, extremely comfortable.
Could you share where your items are from in the intro 3:52 with the wrap, sweater, leather pants and bag? Lovely look!
that outfit is years old. but you can recreate with similar items. they're all wardrobe staples.
Me gustado mucho gracias uno looks preciosos! Y cómodos! Sobretodo deportivas para ir avión mejor comodidad!
Gracias!
I would love to know more about those snakeskin/black toed sling backs you are wearing in the intro.
Those are from Banana Republic about two years old.
@@BethDjalali Thanks, I located something similar. Love your style, keep it coming.
Me, too!
Woven pants, are hard for me to get into.
I like the give of those.
And I think they're warmer.
Agree about jeans. No longer even own a pair but do like denim jackets.
You're so pretty ❤❤
Oh Beth, You are so beautiful always and always.... 🤗☕💝
You're the best!
Thankfully I don’t have to use the loo even on long flights, but I understand many do so always get a window seat then I don’t have to get up and down to let others out.😊
I totally get it! You have to be comfortable in the outfit you choose.
thank you for this lovely video.
Love them all 😊
Terrific advice
Whether I'm traveling or not, I often wear Athleta bike shorts under my dresses. Prevents chafing and provides two secure pockets. Athleta clothes last forever. I've never regretted a purchase.
Athleta is such a great brand!
Hi thank yu sooo much for the info, it's a great help!!!
Where do you shop for your merino wool outfits?
