I love Jackie bringing the small evergreen branch then rearranging it a few times. Every home decor can benefit from an understated floral print to set off the wooden 'furniture' (aka, sticks), IMO...

Couldn’t believe Shadow’s antics! First, he steps all over Jackie’s back. And later he takes the branch from her and drops it on the eggs before taking off. Funny guy! Nice of him to bring her a fish snack, though it’s kind of hard to watch the fishy being eaten alive. Interesting that they’re harvesting those branches now that all the fluff is buried under snow.
I’m really adoring watching Jackie sleep with her little head tucked under her wing. And those little sleep chortles! 😍
I got a kick out of Shadow bringing in a stick to bother Jackie by stepping on her to get across the nest with it, then sticking it in her face. But I think she let him know what she thought of it before she left. That sub-adult must have been looking for a free meal. It was great to see the sun shining on the nest even though it was still very chilly. Thanks for another great video, Cali.

@@sonyagraske376 Spirit is their one of their offspring born in March 2022, so she (female) is almost 2 years old now! Bald eagles do not get their signature white heads until they are about 5 years old, so until then they will have a brown head. The head turns more white as they get towards 5 years old. If you google “when does a bald eagles head turn white?” There are some great images.
A sub-adult refers to the years when the bird is out of the nest and living on their own, but they do not have their full adult feathers (white head) yet.

Shadow brings a stick and Jackie brings pine. I swear they were trying to make a broom to sweep some of that snow off the nest. Now for want of some string and opposable thumbs. 😏 And poor Shadow, he tries to be so helpful but stomping on Jackie and poking her with sticks might not be the best approach. Seeing what is like to live the daily life of animals like these eagles confirms I was right all along to consider animals as my equals.
Their lives are as precious as those of humans. In our mad world, watching reliable, steady, hard working and sane beings, loving every bit of their lives, and 100% dedicated days and nights to their responsabilities of caring for eggs is like a breath of fresh air and so humbling.
The nature and the view are breath taking. These dignified and beautiful animals are so lucky.

I really love these two birds and their eggs. I check in multiple times a day. And had a thought: all that snow is preventing wind blowing through the nest, so that's a good thing.

I watched Bald Eagle pull a fish out of the Columbia River once. It was a good size fish too. The eagle struggled at first to gain elevation.

When I moved to Florida I was surprised at how many Bald eagles we have here and like most animals in Florida they don't mind humans nearby.

Yes quite strong! This tree has withstood wind gusts in the past up to 80 mph. It's a mighty tree!
Does anyone know why they don't stack on eachother in the nest to help keep eachother and the eggs warmer ?
IMO... if they did that, the one underneath would have a hard time breathing and would possibly put to much weight on the one underneath and on the eggs..Thir core temp is around 106°. I think, they would make each other to warm and uncomfortable. just my thoughts.😊

It would block their view though. That's probably why nature set it up that way. They're just doing what is instinctual.

Yeah, she made short work of that fish but is it okay to leave the eggs exposed for 2 minutes+ on such a cold day? Just worried about what happened last year.
I asked about how long eagles can leave eggs in freezing weather and they said pretty long, even in below freezing weather, so I don’t think we have to worry. I’m guessing a few hours.
