Norman, You Are A Fabulous Teacher! I never thought I would be tipping my novice knitting toe into sock knitting 🤭, but here I am! And with great excitement, I knew where to go to find what I need. The current pattern I am doing is a Christmas stocking, but it started as a spiral toe up and I wanted the flat toe box. Now I am giggling at finding a way to adapt that for myself. Also, as this is meant to be larger, I can practic sock knitting with this project. Grazie mille!!

Norman, I have been knitting socks for four years, so don’t watch too many sock knitting videos anymore, but you have become my go to Knitting resource for finding the best and neatest ways to do specific techniques so I watched this one to see if I would learn anything new. I am doing your KLL and KRL increases for the gussets in my current socks and they look beautiful. Thanks so much for all you do! Kathy
After trying 5 other times with another video, this video actually got me started. I love the way that you tutorial this so well, that I made my husband buy your pattern for me, and I'm happily knitting my very first sock from it! You are awesome!
Yaaaay! Perfect timing! I've been wanting to try toe up socks and have been researching different types. I knew you were close to finishing these and was patiently waiting. These are perfect! Toe up, no picking up stitches for the heel... yes please! Thank you so much!!! 😃
Im a returner to knotting and trying to improve my knitting. I want to knit socks , love your tutorials simple, clear and concise. Also found your magic ring video v helpful as couldnt get my head round it, but i get it now
I have never been able to knit a sock that actually fit me before I followed your tutorial. I now have the most PERFECT fitting socks I could have ever dreamed of! I cannot thank you enough for the hours and hours of hard work you put into your tutorials,. Socks always seemed way too advanced for me to tackle but you broke them down so clearly that I am now confidently living my sock knitting dreams
This is a wonderful tutorial! I'm only 20 minutes in, and I've learned two new skills. I've made 3.5 socks so far, and I don't especially like the "squared pointy" toe box that you get from increasing every other row from the start. Your technique of increasing every row until you've doubled your starting stitch count makes a much nicer toe box. Weaving in the new color is a great technique as well. Thank you SO much for all your videos!
You are a very excellent instructor - and that is from on instructor (different topic) to another. Thank you. I've been wanting to tackle socks for a while now and your method makes the most sense. to me.
I finally finished my socks and I love love love them! This is the first pair of socks I have ever owned that actually fit me. Thank you again for explaining how to adjust for the variations in everyone's feet. =]

Thank you for the tutorial! I have now finished the first toe box of my soon-to-be sparkly Christmas socks and already learned three cool new techniques - and that toe boxes are just my least favourite part of sock knitting, no matter from which direction. At least toe-up it gets better with every row you knit.

Thank you so much for this video! I started my first pair of socks, toe up, using magic loop sometime during the pandemic lockdown. I am simply mesmerized by how you work. Your style seems to be impeccable and you explain every step so clearly. This is by far the best knitting channel!
Not only your style but your products themselves are always so impeccable they look like machine made (in a good way) as in meticulous! I think your even knitting is the most refined on the web. Thanx so much for maintaining such a high standard of instruction and result!

Just found this video and am SO thankful for you and your teaching style. I have previously made socks cuff down, but I think I will continue to use your method from now on.
Thank you soooo much. You answered the question I've had for years, the bigger calf gusset!❤ thank you. I'm watching from Vancouver, Canada 🇨🇦. Love your tutorials.
THIS. This is the video I've been needing for socks! Mostly for the calf gusset. I have meaty calves and have a hard time figuring some of these things out. You have given me the info I've been looking for and can't wait to use this video for socks.
I watch Arne abd Carlos but Arne goes so fast I cannot follow. I found you last night and I'm so excited because I can actually learn from you. Thank you a million times over!!!❤❤
I have saved this video as I plan to make these. Just find your videos slightly confusing sometimes but only co you use the continental knitting method and I of course use the UK method. However instructions are still applicable to any method so thank you Norman!! Have a great day!!! 👍 x
ah...sorry for that Jan. But as you might understand, recording such a long video twice is a little bit too much effort. Besides, my bumbling attempts at knitting English style might be even more confusing, haha!
@@NimbleNeedles AMEN! I do continental for 50 years but this is still difficult for me to follow, you may not realize your exquisite level of continental expertise Norman. You are definitely in your groove in Continental.
This is a really great tutorial. I learned a lot watching this. I love your videos because you explain things in detail with good video close ups and you have a lot of knowledge about knitting.
OMGosh you have turned teaching into an art form and a match project!!! thanx so much. I am a right brainer so all this is VERY intimidating to me, and yet I need it. Here's why. I knit following patterns of course but always tweak everything to make it more fitting or aesthetic. I combine patterns to get less of a wedge toe or shorter heel or some other feature and take notes. My problem is I think I am going to remember what I did but when I go back to read the notes i often have to guess at ??? what I actually did, even by the next day!!! After at least 50 pair of socks over 3 years, I don't think 2 of them ever came out the same, just similar!!! Sometimes subtle and sometimes glaring differences. Watching this is overwhelming to my "wing-it" style but I want the exacting results you demo, so I am going to have to take it one minute at a time. Most confusing to me is the customizing of length and do I have a high arch or no? I usually get a strain or a pleat of fabric at arch so what indicates too long or too short? I don't know what I am doing right or wrong. You have turned this into a science almost, and I am eager to plod along until I get it right instead of dealing with the disappointment of having socks that look different from each other, not to others as much as to my meticulous self. Your workmanship is predictable and enviable. Sorry for the long post but maybe others can benefit from this dilemma.
@@NimbleNeedles norman I don't know what you mean I searched all comments and only found once, did I maybe copy onto another of your instructs? Asking specifically about have a pleat of fabric across instep does that mean too much fabric or too little? I appreciate your time and understand if you cannot comment but just trying again.
I'm very excited to see such thorough tutorial from my favorite knitting channel! I've been a little timid to try a sock but I'm confident after this video I'll be able to make a nice pair of socks
Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a detailed video, i have just finished one sock. It fits so perfectly and is super comfortable. Onto the next one!
Wow, wow what a great explanation of reasons for the correct use of measurements in the gussett!!!! The BEST ever, thank you so much. I am now a new subscriber to your site🤩😍
I quite like the method you use to weave the ends as you knit and also the method to prevent a visible jog when using more than one color. I most often knit my socks two at a time toe -up, but either use 50 gr balls or divide my ball in two before hand, it seems less fiddly to me.
Hey there Norman. You are so thoughtful and motivating for a beginning like me. I just recently started top down and oh vey how the heel portion tested my patience. So I am enjoying this.
it sure can feel that way. But believe in the process and you also need to do it once or twice. I don't even notice that section anymore and can knit a heel in my sleep, lol.
Hi Norman! Thank you for your wonderful video tutorials. I have followed other sock patterns with hit or miss results. I just finished my first pair following you and am very happy with the results. I hope to make most of our socks from now on. I spin and can use this method for making socks from my handspun yarn as well, thank you!!!
I wish I could give you 👍👍👍. One 👍 just doesn't tell you how much I appreciate you and your love for knitting. I love your tutorials 😍. Fantastic work 👏
This is the first video I've viewed on your channel and I'm thrilled to have learned some valuable techniques just 20 minutes into it! I am looking forward to trying what you are demonstrating as I have a wide toe box and high instep, and prefer toe-up socks. Thank you lots - this is exciting!

That's awesome! Be proud of yourself!
I have learned so much with this tutorial, I can't thank you enough.
Your teaching style is so helpful. Thank you for these videos. I am feeling more confident in the sock project I am planning.
This is a really great tutorial. I learned a lot watching this. I love your videos because you explain things in detail with good video close ups and you have a lot of knowledge about knitting.
A very beautiful sock. We expected a lovely project and you delivered. Thanks, Norman. ❤
Sorry for the long post but maybe others can benefit from this dilemma.
hm..okay..this comment seems to have been a duplicate.
@@ooohlaa13 if I see a duplicate I always delete the second one ;-) so, that's why you couldn't find it.
Thanks! I appreciate the time and effort that you put in your tutorials you make it very easy to learn :)
very happy to hear my work is appreciated, Romi. thank you so much for your support!
I didnt know your channel. My first time knitting socks made easy with this great video! You have a new fallower in Uruguay! Thank you ❤
Thank you. As a beginner I find your videos so easy to understand and follow. My first sock is already well underway and looking promising.
Wonderful!
one of the best tutorials by far!
I'm very excited to see such thorough tutorial from my favorite knitting channel! I've been a little timid to try a sock but I'm confident after this video I'll be able to make a nice pair of socks
I sure hope you can. And hey..you can always come back and ask your questions here, right?
Thank you so much for taking the time to make such a detailed video, i have just finished one sock. It fits so perfectly and is super comfortable. Onto the next one!
You are so welcome!
Thank you Norman! Have been wanting this knowledge for a very long time!🙋♀️🏘👍⛄
Wow, wow what a great explanation of reasons for the correct use of measurements in the gussett!!!! The BEST ever, thank you so much. I am now a new subscriber to your site🤩😍
Welcome to my channel ❤️
I like to knit toe up so I appreciate your video to remind me what I did last winter. Your tutorials are excellent thank you so much.
I quite like the method you use to weave the ends as you knit and also the method to prevent a visible jog when using more than one color. I most often knit my socks two at a time toe -up, but either use 50 gr balls or divide my ball in two before hand, it seems less fiddly to me.
Yeah, I personally wouldn't knit from either end either. My mum always said, Don't play with fire 🤭🤣
Oohhhh. I love you and your way of explaining!!! You are a treasure.
The best way to knit socks! Thank you very much for the helpful video!
Best tutorial ever. Thank you so much for your effort.
Hi Norman! Thank you for your wonderful video tutorials. I have followed other sock patterns with hit or miss results. I just finished my first pair following you and am very happy with the results. I hope to make most of our socks from now on. I spin and can use this method for making socks from my handspun yarn as well, thank you!!!
Wonderful!
I wish I could give you 👍👍👍. One 👍 just doesn't tell you how much I appreciate you and your love for knitting. I love your tutorials 😍. Fantastic work 👏
heh.. a nice comment is also very much appreciated
This is the first video I've viewed on your channel and I'm thrilled to have learned some valuable techniques just 20 minutes into it! I am looking forward to trying what you are demonstrating as I have a wide toe box and high instep, and prefer toe-up socks. Thank you lots - this is exciting!
awesome! feel free to come back any time if you have any questions.
Loved this video! Super easy to understand. Yes, please show the two at a time version as well!
Thank you so much for this video! You are my favorite knitting instructor. This type of heal is my favorite but I always struggle. This is going to be my go-to technique.
yeah, heels can be tricky but glad I was able to shed some light on it!
Love your sock knitting videos. Would LOVE a two at a time toe up socks video
Agree! Would love to see that!
Thank you for another excellent and practical video. The SKL is just what I need!
Happy to hear that 😎
Norman, which do you prefer for knitting socks - top down or toe up? You are such a wonderful teacher.
top down. more interesting, neater finish and easier to adapt. But...do whatever feels easier for YOU
Norman, I'm not a beginner sock knitter, but fit issues are no joke! I'm still learning how to fit my socks and thus got lots of practice with the parts of the sock top down. Toe up, I need to make more.
Norman -I have to tell you that Ihave been binge watching your videos and love your style of teaching! I am heading over now to become a patron!
oh wow, Maya. Happy to hear my videos work so well for you and I'll see you on the "other" side, I guess :)
Love this tutorial, and the bonus Lamy appearance really makes the video 😊
Ha! 😅
I've tried toe up socks but your way to do the heal is different and I can't wait to try it. I enjoy your videos very much.
Hi from Brazil!!! Thank you for your videos! They are sooooo good!!!
I was looking for a video about how to join a new color in a round (in you channel) and I saw this sock tutorial and found it!
Thank you so much!
All the best and again, thank you for your videos!!!! 😊
you're my favorite knitter to follow along with. can you make a two at a time magic loop sock knitting video? there are other RUclipsrs who have these videos but your socks are much prettier than the pattern that I purchased with the accompanying video from another designer. your projects are always aesthetically pleasing to my eye.
hm..one day in the future. But not anytime soon. these tutorials take a loooot of time and effort (40hours+) and it's quite exhausting.
This is an excellent tutorial so glad i found it. Wish i could Knit the continental way it looks so smooth. 🌻
Thank you so much, I love your tutorials, they are informative and lovely
out just in time for me to be done with my first pair of socks! i did those cuff down and as soon as you said you were putting a video out i said i need to try toe up.
awesome. try both and see what you like most!
Very nice pattern Norman. Great tutorial filled with great tips! Thanks for sharing!😊😊
Very interesting! I just finished knitting my first toe-up socks the other day, but I used a fleegle heel. Will definitely try this heel construction for my next pair :)
yeah, there are many other heels. I thought I'd start with a strandard heel for this beginner pattern (and I actually like this one the most!)
You totally granted my wish! Thank you enormously xXx
Ideal tutorial for first attempt at knitting socks. You are a wonderful, thorough, absolutely adorable teacher ❤
