  • 🇺🇲 United States Navy Diaphragm Mark.III Gas mask dated October of 1942 lot 3 by Mine Safety Appliances Company
The ND Mk.III was introduced in 1937 as a replacement over the older Navy Head Canister Mk.II mask. Eventually, the ND Mk.III was replaced by the ND Mk.IV mask, which had larger lenses
This mask features an MVI Spearhead valve (which is not present on my example), a B2 style Canister, and dual hoses that connect to the Canister that sits on the neck of the user
The carrier for this mask is dubbed the "M5" and is normally found in this beige color, though they are rarely found in Grey Fabric much like the NDO Mk.I mask
One interesting part of this particular mask is the soldiers shirt taped to the B2 Canister, possibly attached to halt charcoal leaking out. There is also some writing or scribbles on the tape of the Canister.
This mask is not in the best condition. The entire facepiece and hoses are covered in lacerations, and both of the top straps had previously ripped off completely, leading to me reattaching them with super glue
