In my opinion, organists are some of our most talented musicians, playing one of the most complex and challenging instruments. Organists are also the lone wolf, going on stage solo, yet having an entire orchestra at their fingertips. It is a truly one of a kind environment.
*NAILED IT!!!* Everything just flows like it should! I've heard Diane Bish play this, and her performance was good, but she actually slows down a bit halfway through the piece. This was very consistent and reminds me a bit of Walter/Wendy Carlos first 'Switched On Bach' album from the late 1960's.😍🎵🎶🎵👍👍
If I could have at least one gift in music it would become a consummate organist like this man! Amazing and so full of colour! Jonathan Scott definitely proves that, in the right, meaning best hands, and feet, the pipe organ is the King of Instruments!
I too though it may have been too fast but the phrasing wasn't lost. You have to play to the acoustics of the hall and this worked, it wasn't at all mushy as I first feared. It was delightful and joyous. Have a a glass of wine and relax. This is not a matter of life or death. Variation is the spice of life.
Excellent, bravo! Those who find this too fast should go to rest with a lullaby. It was played at just the right speed, listen to some orchestral original! Or God forbid - listen to the phenomenal interpretation by Wendy Carlos on Moog synthesizer from album Switched on Bach and then you will know what is fast - but also excellent!
Talking about large audiences I went to a concert in the new Weiwuying Arts and Cultural Centre in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 2018 to see the new massive 5 keyboard German built pipe organ. What a wonderful sound and it must be one of the great instruments of the World and certainly the largest in Asia. The auditorium was huge yet it was packed showing how much the organ is loved in Taiwan. If you travel there in future this is a must for organ lovers. I think Johnathon Scott has demonstrated the organ on you tube.
Enhorabuena Jonathan!!😘👏😘
Thrilling. I LOVE the non-"this is how it is suppose to be played" version that comes from the genius of the artist paying the Organ. Yes, much better this way. Bach would have been astonished for sure. Bravo!
@@larrymerkle1672 This is baroqen Music remember. Play the right note at the right time and the organ plays itself - so said bach. Nothing about expression, rubatto or interpretation.... Now what??
the registration (or may i say: orchestration) is full on; it had 2 interesting - and nicely working - detours. i might borrow that... thanky u very much from germany: yours frank (where to put the word 'collegiate' in?) xx
I have loved the pipe organ ever since I was a kid and heard one for the first time in church. While others would make their exit while the postlude was being played, I would sit mesmerized by the sound of the "king of instruments". Over the years I have heard and collected the recordings of some of the best organists who ever lived, including E. Power Biggs, Virgil Fox, Michael Murray and Diane Bish. As great as they were, Jonathan Scott surpasses them all in his talent. I only hope that he comes to the Untied States to perform, as I would love to see him live in concert.
George Wilson I’m a pianist amongst other instruments including banjo but first learnt Organ (strange way of doing it I know!) but like you I was mesmerised by the instrument and especially when you get the bass of the pedals thundering underneath or on their own!
Jonathan bravo! Now how about coming to Florida and teaching me the finer techniques of playing this piece! Actually I would settle for just the basic techniques, har! Blessings!!
If you want instruction in this piece, you would be wise to seek a better teacher. The only thing you can really say is that it's fast. And I say: so what.
I hope he did better on the rest of the concert than he did with this piece. Too fast, flat, emotionless and ultimately boring. Search RUclips for other, far superior performances. They're not all good, but there are many that ARE better than this one.
I was spoiled in the 1970's with working on King's college chapel to hear great works of classical music played by musicians and choral works by a top rate university choir and musicians
J.S. Bach a du faire le tri !!!!!
There used to be a video on RUclips of Paul Jacobs playing this at the crystal cathedral and he did it perfectly. This guy rushes through it. It’s like he’s in a hurry and he plays with no passion. Paul Jacob’s. Version is the best I’ve heard but unfortunately the high quality video was taken down and there’s only a cheap camcorder recording left…
It was way to fast. He got all the notes right....so what. Take the time to search RUclips for other performances of this wonderful piece. Yes, it was fast, and that's about all you can say positive about this lifeless, flat boring performance.
Really? You should search RUclips for other superior performances of this wonderful piece. This is flat, lacking any drama or interest, and way to fast to appreciate Bach's elaborate articulation. ABSOLUTELY BORING.
I love your playing normally but yea this is too fast for me. Playing to the gallery like old Carlo Curley did but nothing wrong with enjoying yourself I guess. Not as bad as Cameron Carpenter though lol: brilliant skill zero musicality.
Bach was reported to have played at this speed as he did not wish to miss the last bus home. Joking apart, I worship this mans playing normally but as we say in England 'a tad too fast'.
Did great and I love the lively nature of the performance but it was a tid bit fast. Honestly the versions that Diane Bish did were definitely the right rate of speed. Still a great performance though.
First - I think it is too fast. Several others do as well. A little slowers and we can hear the inner lines a bit more clearly. What can you say about baroque music? All the notes were present, registration was good. This is a piece that has has a much to do with timing as the succession of notes. If all the notes are there and everything is in time and the registration is acceptable - this it turns out to be successful. The problem is - pieces like this have no emotion, only a rhythm. But this is also a crowd pleaser - as it should be. The audeince was quite happy. Job well done.
Technically very skilled, but by playing it so extremely fast, the piece is losing it's magic. It's like moving a camera in 2 seconds from left to right while recording an impressive setting. My brains don't get the chance to be captivated.
Yes.....just because you can play it this fast doesn't mean you should. This is one of the worse performances of this piece I've ever heard. Just because it's loud and fast doesn't mean it's good.
Dude: what's the rush? He got all the notes right. So what. If you like this piece, search RUclips as there are MANY performances that are far superior to this rather flat, emotion-less rendition. For starters search Olivier Penin at the wonderful Cavaillé-Coll organ at the St. Clothilde church in Paris.
Excelent, bravo! those who find this too fast should go to rest with a lullaby. In just that speed it should be, listen to some original! Or God forbid - listen to the version from Wendy Carlos on Moog synthesizer and then you will know what is fast but also super!

Absolutely, assuredly, floor-punching, jaw-dropping AMAZING!!! WOW!!

Have a a glass of wine and relax. This is not a matter of life or death. Variation is the spice of life.
Wow, that is a large audience for a classical organ concert! You deserve it!
Took me a minute, but bam! That is from JSB’ last violin sonata… first movement… great stuff! I want the piano score… and the organ score… too cool!
Excellent, bravo! Those who find this too fast should go to rest with a lullaby.
It was played at just the right speed, listen to some orchestral original! Or God forbid - listen to the phenomenal interpretation by Wendy Carlos on Moog synthesizer from album Switched on Bach and then you will know what is fast - but also excellent!
how wonderful....JSB lives forever on in his music.....
This is the fastest performance of this piece I've ever heard! Yow!
Scott is at it again another superb performance on an organ that is a delight to listen to, bright yet very subtle. Thankyou Mr Sott yet again.
Great as always!
Jonathan, you are a great great organist. I watched you when you play the organ in the Basilica of Santa María in Elche (Spain). Congratulations
Brilliant!
Excellent❤❤❤if only to be this concert🙏

Phénoménale !
Thrilling. I LOVE the non-"this is how it is suppose to be played" version that comes from the genius of the artist paying the Organ. Yes, much better this way. Bach would have been astonished for sure. Bravo!
I think Bach would be more alarmed than astonished.
So fast. Emotionless. Flat and uninteresting.
@@larrymerkle1672 This is baroqen Music remember. Play the right note at the right time and the organ plays itself - so said bach. Nothing about expression, rubatto or interpretation.... Now what??
BRAVO!!!!!!
the registration (or may i say: orchestration) is full on; it had 2 interesting - and nicely working - detours. i might borrow that... thanky u very much from germany: yours frank (where to put the word 'collegiate' in?) xx
Fantastico bravissimo !
seeing jonthan net Tuesday for show at the bridge water hall widor an bach

I was privileged to be at this concert yesterday for another inspirational live performance. Thank you so much, Jonathan 👏

This is the fastest performance of this work I have heard thus far! I guess if you had a flight to catch, it's quite understandable!

Klasse Leistung .
Beautiful. Rushed.
sehr gut gespielt grüße from Germany!!

Um. Wow.
To fast, plus rapide, zu schnell, te snel. Couldn't enjoy the wonderfull music from JSB in this hurry. Beautyfull organ and nice acoustics by the way.
Einfach genial
Is that Jonathan Scott playing or Diane Bish?
Schitterend!!!!!!!
Beaucoup trop rapide !!!! Dommage
Quelle démonstration ! Dommage !
Marvelous performance as usual, although i wonder if Bach had intended it at such high tempo. No critique, just personal
Oh no, it wasn't too fast!
Brilliant performance
It was way to fast. He got all the notes right....so what. Take the time to search RUclips for other performances of this wonderful piece. Yes, it was fast, and that's about all you can say positive about this lifeless, flat boring performance.
All these arm chair critics complaining it's too fast. It's a piece that lends itself to a quick tempo. Quit your pompous belly aching!
I agree. If they are all so good why aren't they performing!!!!
among us
Incredible organist, but was he perhaps late for lunch date or something?
Seems a bit fast, but well played.
It's perfect at 0.75 speed Change the speed in settings
ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT! 🙏🏻👍🏻❤️❤️🇨🇦
Really? You should search RUclips for other superior performances of this wonderful piece. This is flat, lacking any drama or interest, and way to fast to appreciate Bach's elaborate articulation. ABSOLUTELY BORING.
excellent, wonderfull, but a little fast
What arrangement is this?
It is a transcription by Marcel Dupré, the most used version, though I think Scott uses a slightly different version.
I love your playing normally but yea this is too fast for me. Playing to the gallery like old Carlo Curley did but nothing wrong with enjoying yourself I guess. Not as bad as Cameron Carpenter though lol: brilliant skill zero musicality.

Did great and I love the lively nature of the performance but it was a tid bit fast. Honestly the versions that Diane Bish did were definitely the right rate of speed. Still a great performance though.
Too fast, it is not necessary. Pedal is not clean... Bach is not here. Sorry.
Much too fast. My ear can't digest the wonders that fast.
I agree. This performance has no character, drama or interest. He got all the notes right: so what.
Pedal is not clean. 👎🏽
diane bish do perfect more

It lacks interest, grace, drama. It's flat and boring. Loud does not equate to good.
Bach is not here.
Far too fast Mr. Scott, try listening to Olivier Penin.
Plays it too fast!!
Bravo... but too fast!!!
Way too fast and no Bravo.
WHY must some play this at too fast a tempo? It loses its beauty. Feels like he is just rushing through to get to the end. Sad, so sad.
Man slow down not. A race 🤣😎
Desperate for the toilet?!!!!
Technically very skilled, but by playing it so extremely fast, the piece is losing it's magic. It's like moving a camera in 2 seconds from left to right while recording an impressive setting. My brains don't get the chance to be captivated.
Faster rarely translates to better...
Jacques Loussier played it at this tempo and what's wrong with that!
What's the hurry?
ToooFaaaassst🤬
Oder möchte er nur brillieren? 🤔
too fast
Troppo veloce.......
Does he think that he is about to miss the train, or what? much too fast!!!
Agreed. He got all the notes.....so what. This is a wretched performance of this wonderful piece.
TOO FAST!👎
Too fast!
Agree. It's gets muddy very quickly and you can't appreciate it at all.
Those who can, do - those who can't, critique
Way too fast!
Yes.....just because you can play it this fast doesn't mean you should. This is one of the worse performances of this piece I've ever heard. Just because it's loud and fast doesn't mean it's good.

Way too fast. Seriously? Bach, a highly contemplative man, wouldn't do such a thing.

That's one ugly console!
Too Fast !!!!
Brilliant!
Too fast.
Excelent, bravo! those who find this too fast should go to rest with a lullaby.
In just that speed it should be, listen to some original! Or God forbid - listen to the version from Wendy Carlos on Moog synthesizer and then you will know what is fast but also super!
