Nice approach. I see the altimeter pointing around 10.000ft, the strip has 9101 ft elevation acc. the books. That can mean a hot-and-high take-off...but the Stemme has a turbo. In Europe, Switzerland, the airfield Samedan , 5600 ft alevation, is considered "high" . Did some -h&h- takeoffs there with a Limbach powered Grob 109a(!) where the take-off-roll doubled, to 600 m and the r/c was a bare 300ft/min...
An interesting pattern was flown to stay clear of near by powerlines.... No machine for Telluride for sure...

Good to see Colorado again.. been there many times but never to Telluride. Very nice video.. two kinds of people ... those who can fly and those like me who can't 😉

Why land with the engine on instead of off, in a glider ?

Safety. If you had to abort the landing for any reason, the engine is already running and available for a go-around. Also, if you don't quite make it to a taxiway, it's easier to get off the runway than to have to deploy the prop and start the engine.

The other Stemme that you can see landing before us landed without the engine running. The Stemme engine actually starts in about 3 seconds so it barely matters except there is far less drag when landing as a glider making landings easier without the engine running.

@@ricklederman I may not be the best judge at this, but isn't Terluride tricky. High elevation and steep drop off which might cause unexpected sink. I would land with engine on in case as well.

@@jameskenyon9734 Our engine was running. Now that I have a year flying my own Stemme S12 I probably would do it with the engine running as unlike most Stemme owners, most of my landings are done with engine running anyway. You are correct, it is tricky at Telluride. Because of the wind in certain times of the year I wouldn't even try to land there. Local knowledge certainly helps. I was not flying during this landing but the turbulance was no big deal.
