- Half-Life: Opposing Force is an expansion pack for Valve Software's science fiction first-person shooter video game Half-Life. The game was developed by Gearbox Software and Valve Corporation and published by Sierra Entertainment on November 1, 1999. Opposing Force is the first expansion for Half-Life and was first announced in April 1999. Randy Pitchford, the lead designer on the game, later noted that he believed Gearbox was selected to develop Opposing Force because Valve wanted to concentrate on their future projects. Over the course of development, Gearbox brought in a variety of outside talent from other areas of the video games industry to help bolster various aspects of design.
Opposing Force returns to the same setting as Half-Life, but instead portrays the events from the perspective of a U.S. Marine, one of the enemy characters in the original game. The player character, Adrian Shephard, is sent in to neutralize the Black Mesa Research Facility when a scientific mishap causes it to be invaded by aliens, but quickly finds that the Marines are outnumbered and slowly being beaten back by a second alien race and black operations units. Opposing Force was received well by critics, many describing it as the new benchmark title for expansion packs, in a similar fashion to how Half-Life revolutionized the first-person shooter genre. Other reviewers, however, thought that the game still had many of the negative aspects of other expansion packs, although it was still regarded as an exceptional add-on.
Base Half-Life had it's moments but this DLC tested my patience from beginning to end. I had no idea if shooting the purple was doing any damage because it gave me no feedback

It's actually more efficient to hit its purple core with the sniper rifle; I did just that and managed to kill him with 4 shots, and this was on hard mode.

I watch bigmacdavis againt this boss but he use the spore launcher because is way more effective, so yeah that the reason why you need to save some spore launcher ammo for this boss!

I was so scared of this thing as a kid. Did you know if you noclip through to the other side of the portal, you’re floating in (if I’m remembering right) this space with the xen skybox,and I THINK maybe a little island in the distance? Even if there wasn’t anything there, I remember flying out into the distance, and when I turned around I could see this boss. It stuck out of the other side of the portal too but it just looked like it does here, not its hidden back end. It might have spawned right away, but part of me thinks you might have had to fly a little ways out before you’d see it there. Freaked me the fuck out but I was obsessed with stuff like that. Noclipped around to find stuff like it more than I actually played the games properly since I suck at first person shooters lol. I would go looking for the g man around Black Mesa. There are a few spots he pops up before you’re actually supposed to be in that area that I don’t think you actually see him in if you play through normally without flying ahead like that. Nothing compared to finding something other than a complete blank void on the other side of this portal like you’d expect.

I think the "Not teleporting" glitch is also on OSX because I'm on a Mac-Book pro and whenever I defeat the boss, I'm not teleported to G-Man. Also that ending is horrible. Just...why? He's trapped forever but Barney gets to go free?
because barney is a kind of guy that helps freeman and apart from that he is against the military force. but Adrian Shephard is a military soldier and if he sees freeman he might kill him because that is the order he gets. idk if you noticed but G-man has employees so as he mentioned they are not happy about this situation. and btw he is just trapped to the eternity. so actually this is good. G-man has some plans about the Shephard and for now he is just keeping him away and harmless until he needs. after-all we can also see Adrian Shephard on half life 3 like as we see barney on hl2.
Also, Freeman was getting trapped too and then magically popping out in City 17. Unfortunately, the community builds so great pressure with expectation over HL 3, that Valve is most probably gonna delay it until people forget about it completely. I think they feel too risky to deploy it when so many people are holding their breath for it to be absolutely perfect, which can't happen possibly at all.

leo almiron dude, i barely understand you :D. it can be really amazing to meet them but Opposing Force is fan made at the very first time so it is actually hardly to see Shephard. i am wishing to see him again thou!

Protip: you can just continue to shoot the central weak spot of the boss with one of the side mounted cannons, I defeated the boss this way

Why my Half life Opposing force version don't have the M4 rifle only the mp5
Because the older versions of Half Life in general got a MP5. The M16 (that's it's accurate name) was introduced and meant to replace the MP5 in the newer versions of Half Life (the ones that you usually download from Steam) like some sort of graphical upgrade or something.
Anyway, if you're playing one of those new versions, you can always go to the game's options menu and switch off the "high resolution models" option or something like that and you can have the MP5 back.

Yeah i don't know if im the single one but on every half life game i just take it slow you know, like in csgo you slowly check corners and dont just rush in but ofc this usually gets with me ending the game with all the fucking weapons at max ammo XD
