- Wood turning a piece of firewood into art is so satisfying. In this video I create a lidded box from spalted maple burl wood and resin. I add a new finish that is quick and easy to apply by Ack's Wood Pastes. Hope you enjoy this video and stay safe.

I create handmade, high quality wood pieces (and sometimes, crafts using other mediums such as natural stone or acrylic) that connect to people on an emotional level. Each piece is meticulously designed to look and feel like an art piece. I have always adored art, and have an underlining mission to incorporate my knowledge and skills into wood turning. With my videos, I hope to inspire and encourage others while promoting wood turning, experimentation, and safety. Please stay safe at all times!

MPart Hey Mike, thank you my friend. Honored!
As you began turning, I noticed the shield attached to the tool. Was this something you made or are they available somewhere?
I've never seen it before.
Ray Fortenberry Hi Ray, it’s a chip deflector. I made it from plexiglass and a magnet. I made a video on making one. You can also buy them. I believe Easy wood tools has some. It’s great for chips and safer than gloves. Thank you and for watching.

Lovely piece; What was the word you used for the metallic piece on the finial?
It was a stone medallion. Thanks for watching.

cemile alver Thank you!
Very nice piece. Simple design that showcases the wood and resin with unique touches as well. What model is your lathe?
Elizabeth Dennis Thank you Elizabeth, sometimes less is more. Lol I have the Jet 1640 EVS with bed extension. I’ve only had it for a few months, but love it so far. Check out my new lathe video for more info on this lathe. Thanks again.
@@spwoodart Thanks for the info! What happened to your old lathe?
Elizabeth Dennis I sold my old PSI lathe to a school for woodturning.
great work!!!!!!!!!i really love the way you do your videos you actually talk and dont overpower your videos with music .your videos are really getting hard to find. i dont get it but thats me
Thank you and for watching!
Most excellent box Speros! Nice catch too saving that beautiful wood from the fire box. I live in Florida so the only firewood I come into contact with is my unusable cutoffs. Great job. I have been trying to decide if I should purchase a pressure pot and start turning some resin and wood pieces. You make it look so easy. What type pot is that you used in this video?
Roger Dale Scott Hey, thanks Roger. I have a Yaetek paint pressure pot 2.5 gallon I bought on Amazon, and then modified for resin casting. Like your hollowing set, I didn’t know if I would like casting so I bought a small pot. It’s almost the same as the TCP pots on Amazon now. I like the lid locks, and it works for me. Me and my family like our fire pits outside, roasting marshmallows, etc. so I’m always finding neat pieces of wood in the firewood piles. Do you turn palm wood?
Beautiful lidded box!! Just awesome, I love the green resin. I was wondering where you got the insert on top of your lid. I'm learning to turn and would like to add some accents to my turnings. Thank you!!
Annette Ackley Hi Annette, I use various materials for accents: beads, diamonds,, pearls, stones, jewelry, buttons, precious metals, etc. Usually quality materials, are my go to. In this video, I used a piece of a bracelet I took apart. It was stones and sterling silver plated. I removed the rings and sanded the edge which was imbedded in the wood. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it. Take care. -Speros
Another lidded box made from firewood and resin. It’s also a different method for turning lidded boxes. I also used a new finish. Hope you enjoy the show!
Beautiful (as usual). How do you come up with your designs? Do you get a feel as you're going or have it preplanned?
Michael Driver Hi Michael, good question! I do both, I preplan at times, and other times I use my eye and feel. This one was not planned because I didn’t know what to expect with the grain and resin. Sometimes the wood tells you where to go. Lol thanks for watching!
