      No it's not. Especially if you use bloated garbage like firefox. Even Windows 7 minimal processes running youre looking at around 1 gb or RAM gone already. I'm pretty sure everyone knew the x270 wasnt going to change much. even the x250 users agreed. thinkpads is pretty predictive, they focus on reliability and durability, thats why many conpanies still use them. good tip: buy the base model with 1080p screen and upgrade ssd and ram with aftermarket parts. if you need the warranty, simply swap back to oem parts before shipping.

      Upgrading SSD is no brainer but most people wouldn't know the difference. You also get a free external hard drive out of it (or other internal 500GB hdd). Ram could also be good but sometimes it is a wash or even more expensive given the price of ram these days.

I only upgraded the hard drive to a Samsung SSD 500gb a couple years ago which made the laptop seem 10 times quicker. Overall it is great for travelling. 9-BBN the models from 2012 and below use M-class processors, fast but low on battery life.
      the current models since 2013 use ULV processors that are slower but last longer on battery.
      the x230 should have the same performance as an x260 with lower battery life.

    I'm really impressed how Lenovo design Thinkpad series, especially the X series that have bridge battery system. They're using at least intel Core i5, some series just like X270 even have Core i7 inside it, which means it will need some space for the cooling system. But they use like almost 50% of the entire bottom panel just for the battery ( internal and external ).
    And here is the thing, it still has a PCIe old slot ( on the left side, the wide one, not the M.2 ), it's wide for sure. More over it still has some upgradeability ( RAM, NVMe, Wifi Card ) and internal GSM modem. I can't believe how efficient they designed the motherboard for a Core i5/i7 Processor machine. It's very small and compact, yet also has all basic upgradeability. That's why I really love thinkpad, but I don't have enough money to buy one.

    I bought one from an IT charity on eBay for £135. Like yours, only with the regular original slim battery, 8 GB ram, 250GB NVME non1080p screen. I won't upgrade my screen to 1080p because I don't want everything my 24 inch home monitor has crammed into a screen that's 10+ inches shorter. I have upgraded to 16 GB ram, replaced the NVME with a 500GB I had laying around and I bought a genuine new 72 wh replacement battery and I re-pasted the CPU/GPU. Chinese generic batteries are NOT good, I had nothing but massive performance problems with it. I love this laptop.

      SATA m2 ssd's usually have pretty low temperatures, the ones that go high are the nvme drives. And that cage by the look of it, and it is anything like in mine laptops just make the air circulation worse. I believe initially the cage was designed by ibm with the rubber to limit vibrations passed to disk drives and it haven't changed for the last 10-15 years.

    • @DanielRodriguez-fg5ll
      @DanielRodriguez-fg5ll 7 лет назад

      that sounds a reasonable theory, basically of abit of laziness from Lenovo. hopefully to keep prices down. for instance in the P50, there are two M2 slots in the same physical space than a 2.5 in SSD takes, each M2 drive sits on top of a plastic tray that I think has a thermal thin "cover". something like that would have been nice in this machine even if they were to share the same motherboard disk slot (so half the bandwidth, but NVME/2 is still faster than SATA).
      it just looks like a half-ass job, in such small laptop to waste space with a cage.

      I have an X270 with a 2.5 inch SATA HDD and a m.2 2242 SSD (Boot drive) in the WWAN slot. The 2.5 inch SATA3 HDD can be replaced with an SATA3 2.5 inch SSD. Or I can swap out the daughter card/cable to interface with m.2 PCI NVME SSD. PCI NVME drives do get hot during peak operations btw.

    I used the X201 during my PhD thesis back in the days, and I just adored its long battery life and portability (with huge, protruding battery). Sadly, the price is just too high and the low-quality TN panel indicates a lack of of innovation that in 2017 shouldn't be a Lenovo thing.

      Francesco Varrato you miss the point this is for business so is based on the IT needs. The bridge battery, spill resistant keyboard, military spec drop protection, great security, user repairable and no fancy screens needed for office stuff. If you want to just watch videos then buy a Yoga 930 or a P60 if you need dedicated graphics. Also buy through a reseller as you can get big discounts with long warranties. I have an x250 which cost me £450 a few months ago and battery life is over 12 hours and with two spare batteries I can go a week without charging. Best keyboard ever.

    Even though the keyboard is lacking compared, the X270 is not a pile of plastic, which the E330 feels like, the light weight ultra portability is a pleasure. It also feels like it can withstand more extreme conditions, and is overall a fantastic machine.

    How long has this been the Thinkpad keyboard layout? My X220 (circa 2012) had the best small keyboard layout ever, and then at some point Lenovo went crazy and started removing keys and putting the rest in random locations. They seem to be slowly heading back towards sanity, but the PgUp/PgDn and PrtSc keys are still in bizarre places. They need to bring back the extra row of small keys at the top; those were really useful.

      The X230 and T430 was when Lenovo changed the X-series and T-series to the Lenovo-imitating-Apple “chiclet”-keyboard.
      And X240 and T440-series is when Lenovo changed the Thinkpads from the classic Thinkpad design to this design that we see in the T440-series, T450-series, T460-series, T470-series, and T480-series, and their “X”-series counterparts.

    I am soooo pissed off by Lenovo. Fucking Notebook bulimia. The "ever thinner" hipster apple fcking bllshit is destroying all the great model lines. Is it really that hard to understand that all I want is a X270 case with up to date hardware and ports. I don't give a damn sht about some 100g lighter and .5mm thinner case.
    Take the fcking X270 case put in a logicport with one or two TB3 ports, at least one regular USB A, full size RJ45, up to date CPU, bridge battery, RAM NOT soldered, and a FHD screen 12 or 13''. I would be up to pay a premium price for such a machine. But I definitly wont buy your shtty X390 with soldered RAM, no fullsize RJ45, no bridge battery,...

      AirRookie It's discrete, which many people like, especially business customers who are a significant part of the ThinkPad customer base. Not everyone wants a laptop with glossy plastic or a metal exterior. If you want glossy plastic, look at Lenovo's non-ThinkPad models.

    First of all thanks for the review. I am trying to buy a laptop for my father for a couple of weeks and have watched almost all of your recent reviews and smackdowns, they helped me a lot. Finally I am a bit confused b/w zenbook series ux330ua and zenbook flip ux360uak-dq240t (touch screen main difference). He isn't going to open many applications or chrome tabs at the same time. And his primary requirement would be, if he clicks on the icon, it should open as fast as possible. Same goes for
    the touch screen, that it should be smooth, responsive, and sturdy. But there's no way for me to confirm this. I live in a remote town, Shujalpur, in India, so we don't have any laptop outlets here, or any high range phone outlets for that matter. Even, none of the stores in our whole state has a piece, for demo purposes of touch screen. Could you please make a video, reviewing ux360uak or atleast give a basic idea about touch screen? Again, thanks a lot for videos, really appreciate your reviews and smackdowns.

    You do such a good job with these! ... Somewhat random question -- how much bigger is the T470p than the T470? I'm attracted to what seems to be more power for the buck with the "p" model, and I am not a small person so don't mind a little extra weight. But I don't want to push the size to the point where it is no longer really portable. Any advice would be great!

      470p has options for dedicated graphics and uses more powerful processor, again it depends on your need

    man i really want one of these. Why can't lenovo offer this thing in the same form factor but with a 13.3" screen and also change that stupid usb c 3.0 port to a thunderbolt 3. Would be the perfect ultrabook.

    • @ravi1992
      @ravi1992 6 лет назад +5

      the x2** series is the best! the size is perfect for durability and throwing it about. I'm using a x220 atm and have been for quite a while now. This size is perfect for use on tubes, buses, trains, flights, cafes and ultra portable. I also have a 13.3" laptop with a 2k display and 5th gen i7 processor + dedicated gpu but find myself hardly using it because its just not as portable and less ergonomic. I'm gonna wait for the x280. Just wish they still offered the old style keyboards + thinklight as an optional choice. That would definitely sway me to upgrading.
