Thanks Fareed. I have been saying this for a while.
Many of our American compatriots need to get out and see the world. Standing from the outside, you get a better appreciation for what we have.
if Americans actually visited other countries, they would realize it's not normal to have dilapidated infrastructure, homeless people, constant wars, and mass shootings.
It's far easier to prevent autocracy than to recover once they have taken power.
What autocratic policies do they have?
So now democracy is bad?

I wish I shared the optimism. What disturbs me the most are not the real and wannabe autocrats - they will always exist - but the sheer numbers of people who continue to support them. How can one be so unaware of history?
If the west had conducted itself honorably, stop it's numerous hypocrisies and stop seeking to impose it's will on others, or contain others, maybe the rise of other contenders on the global stage wouldn't have risen in the first place.
It's a combination of societal apathy & lack of education. The elite, especially on the far Right, are keenly aware that knowledge = power thus their concerted effort to thwart efforts to widespread access to higher education. They also actively spew misinformation to make the populace more malleable to their extreme agenda.
So many places in the US don't invest in k-12 education. We have people who don't want to teach history because it makes them uncomfortable. When you combine that with the intense dependence on social media, it makes sense why so many people lack critical thinking skills and an understanding of history.

He was about to recall it after 40 minutes
For most of the global south, the problem is not western values, but how these values are practiced in international relations. Just as domestically in western societies, the problem is not the politicians' promises, but how these promises are fulfilled.
Truly said, we mostly do not practice what we preach.
@@Ricky-fz9dn Hmm I'm not sure that is true. We mostly actually do - it just draws attention to hypocrisy where it exists.
A nation isn't one thing. It's 100 million things - some good, some bad. Our dirty laundry is out in the open to debate and critique, and I think over time that has produced slowly better outcomes compared to times past.
The best time in human history, for human beings - is today, right now - in the west. Clearly we are doing something right.
The disconnect is that people think the values we preach means we don't need to have internal struggles. IT's a disillusionment with a utopian vision of humanity that doesn't exist, never existed, and our founders were well aware wasn't even possible. Western ideals aren't some utopian vision for a problem less world - but a system for redressing greviences and resolving inevitable despites. The existence of disputes does not refute the values.
As for the global south - while they might have specific and legitimate grievances about specific things done by specific western countries - every one of those nations that have joined the liberal international order based on free trade and respect for individual sovereignty - have outperformed their peers dramatically. Much of the Global South is also historically down on the west for a philosophy ( imperialism ) that we no longer hold to - that we in fact destroyed in a brutal world war. The post 1944 order has been an objectively good one for the developing world. Africa has a middle class now. South America has one too. Broad based prosperity is possible - but it's a centuries long project, not a decades long one.
The problem is the west force their values on the Global South and Sanction us for having a different opinion.

Just because leaders get elected that you don't ideologically agree with, it does not mean that democracy is in danger or dying. It simply means that the people got together and collectively decided that they didn't want to go the direction that people like you want to take our country. That is how democracy works. Democracy is not successful or work only when people like you get your way. Sometimes you have to accept that enough people in your population don't want to go the direction that you want to go.

@kwaki-serpi-niku False. When autocrats take part in elections, it doesn't make them democrats. Our Constitution vs Project 2025. Pick a side.
Written in 1787, ratified in 1788, and in operation since 1789, the U.S Constitution is the world's longest surviving written charter of government. Its first three words-"We the People"-affirm that the government of the United States exists to serve its citizens. For over two centuries the Constitution has remained in force because its framers wisely separated and balanced governmental powers to safeguard the interests of majority rule and minority rights, of liberty and equality, and of the federal and state governments. Since 1789 the Constitution has evolved through amendments to meet the changing needs of a nation now profoundly different from the 18th-century world in which its creators lived.
More than two centuries after its ratification, the U.S. Constitution remains a vital and living document, strengthened by amendments, serving as both guide and protector of U.S. citizens and their elected officials. It has survived civil war, economic depressions, assassinations, and even terrorist attacks, to remain a source of wisdom and inspiration.
The creation of the U.S. Constitution depended upon the knowledge, experience, and dedication of its framers, just as its endurance depends upon the knowledge and experience of each succeeding generation of Americans. For this reason, it is important for us to learn and understand the governing principles of our nation, set forth in the Constitution.

@RealJohnConger
The great innovation of conservatism in recent decades has been the systematic reinvention of politics using the technology of public relations..
The main idea of public relations is the distinction between "messages" and "facts". Messages are the things you want people to believe. A message should be vague enough that it is difficult to refute by rational means.
One of the most important patterns of conservative message-making is projection. Projection is a psychological notion; it roughly means attacking someone by falsely claiming that they are attacking you. Conservative strategists engage in projection constantly. A commonplace example would be taking something from someone by claiming that they are in fact trying to take it from you. January 6 ring a bell? Trump tried to steal an election, by falsely claiming it was being stolen from him.

It’s a game of the thrones and currently the world ruled by Cersei Lannister and the question remains who is the alternative? Is she better? Or Is she worse?
The saddest part was "doctor" Jill helping Joementia off the debate stage, so pathetic
Trump’s Promise To Make The South Rise Again. Trump's GOP has a “new model” for America but a closer inspection reveals their plan is just to bring back the confederate south. Republicans have a very specific economic vision for the future of our country, although they rarely talk about it in plain language. They want to make the rest of America look and function just like Mississippi, racism included.
She is evil. Her debt to karma is insurmountable.
You people are nuts… 🤦♂️
And you, being a cult member, missed the message.
The sad thing here is how ignorant you are.
Not sure what's wrong with his wife walking with him? Hope you're not married. And for sure hope you don't have kids.
Thursday’s debate wasn’t depressing at all. It was joyous!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸MAGA TRUMP 2024🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Trump didn't even answer the questions but his voice was louder so he wins?
@@lorrainemcfarland621 Trump answered all the questions fully & truthfully!
Who else thinks this is underrated?
Always appreciate hearing from Fareed ❤❤❤

The Global South, although on the sunny side, represents the dark side of the planet.
Human civilisation needs a moderate world with leadership from moderate school of thought so that both extreme schools of thought can co exist peacefully. It will be a much saner world then
Agreed people are sick of the way the democrat party is a autocracy.
Hi Alex. I’ll take “imaginary straw man scenarios that reinforce my world view” for $100.
People are past sick of the way Tronald Dump's trolls turn reality on its head. If you can't learn any common sense, learn this much grammar. It's the Democratic Party- Democrat is the noun, Democratic is the adjective (in case you know what an adjective is).
We have the whole world to be hopeful for when Trump gets back in.
He was laughed at by world leaders when visiting the UN... twice.
The world didn't look at Jan 6 and say, "We are hopeful for that guy...".
Trump instigated a coup. He extorted another power to interfere with domestic elections. For each of those he was impeached.
He locked kids in cages. Stole women's bodily autonomy. He clashed with veterans and insulted them time and time and time again.
He lost the 2012 Republican primary. He lost the 2016 popular vote. He caused the loss of the 2018 midterms. He lost the 2020 popular and electoral college vote. He lost the 2022 midterms.
Hopefully we can add one more loss to that list for 2024 and put the final nail in this embarrassing coffin.
We kept too many people out of the American dream. Now they are angry and starting fires.
