Halloween is definitely John Carpenters best film, scared the hell out of me as a child & is still one of the very few horror films that get under my skin & creep me out.
I stand by The Thing as Carpenter's best work (greatest horror movie ever made in my opinion), but this is still an incredible, iconic masterpiece of cinema.
Kirsty Fairley yep I’m with you there. Watched when I was about 10 or 11 and it scared the hell out of me for a very long time. Only now at nearly 50 do I not get the heebie jeebies when I hear this tune
Greatest of the modern horror flicks. Hitchcock-type thing but amped up in to modern age. My favorite scene is when Laurie looks out her window and sees Michael in the clothes line. Subtle terror. Something that is always scary. AWESOME movie Carpenter and Hill.
Agreed. I'm not a big fan of the version from the original soundtrack release that has that thumping sound throughout. Thankfully the correct version as heard here got a proper release on the 25th Anniversary edition.
Halloween is the kind of film that keeps you both afraid and intrigued. It deals with the kind of psychology that would leave Einstein astonished. It's by far the most intelligent and intriguing horror/slasher film I've ever seen, and it set the bar for how scared movie goers can really be.
My friend's dad went to see this movie in theaters with his girlfriend, and at one point, she sent a scream directly into his ear. I'm surprised she didn't have a funnel on standby to intensify the effect. :P
i remember this, i was around 2 or 3 wen i first heard this song. i nvr left my spot wen i watch this movie until it wuz ovr. i got myself on video watching the movie until it go on commericial i leave, and wen it back on i go back sit at the very same spot.
@NewDie9 "Black cats and goblins and broomsticks and ghosts, Covens of witches with all of their hosts. You may think they scare me, You're probably right Black cats and goblins On Halloween night Trick or treat!"
With the exception of Alford Hitchcock, Halloween was the 1st slasher film ,that lead to all the others, some good ,some not so much ,but this film was the one above all others forever, just the camera they used and the film along with the composition and storyline may never be recreated.
was awesome watching Halloween '78 in theaters this year, this is the best and classic aside with "More of the Night He came Home" H2. Carpenter's Michael Myers should never be remade.
@bobafettfan32 Yeah I noticed several other people feel the same way. I take back my comment. I am a purist, I'm more interested in the "original" than in how we watched it in the '70s. I never saw it in the theater, only on TV every time it was on through the '80s. But I understand the nostalgia for the VHS tape as well.
I first saw this movie when I was around 6 or 7, it scared the hell outta me. I've seen LOTS of horror movies over the years but this one remains a classic. When I went to bed after watching the movie for the first time, I was still shaken and horrified that Michael Myers could come out of my closet or if I'd close my eyes for even a brief moment and then open them, his mask face would be right there. The music in the film just adds to the horror, especially the known Halloween theme. Excellent.
Sadly, movies like this will never be made today. Nowadays you have to show all the gory details to be a horror movie. There is no suspense. The movie going public has to be shown everything that is happening or else they do not understand what is going on. It is sad really. I actually know people who like Rob Zombies' horrible remake more than John Carpenter's masterpiece.
@Krazy3912 Why in the world would Michael Myers be waiting in the bathroom for you when you're taking a shit? Like would he measure the log as it came out or what... My guess is don't go outside late at night and be scared about him under your bed, but I wouldn't worry so much about him catching you while you're laying some cable or dropping off a box of cigars in the bathroom.
@JeanetteTherese I absolutely despise the Rob Zombie remake. It's quite literally a movie that makes me ill just thinking about it. I was only able to sit through half of the film before I just turned it off. It wasn't the gore that bothered me (I've watched zombie flicks, Hellraiser, and seen some real life graphic photos a time or two), but the mind numbing amount of horrible characters, dialogue, and "scares" in it. It was just a terrible movie through and through.
One of the greatest, creepiest theme songs in film history.
The Exorcist theme is second only to Halloween 🎃!
The theme that defines the genre of horror 🎃

best opening theme ever ...
that Halloween song made the movie more frightening
An almost perfect horror movie (opening music, story, scenery, etc., and obvious painstaking care with all of it).
Why 'almost' perfect?
@@stevennieto9898 nothing is perfect
Carpenter did an amazing job with the new trilogy
that sweet sweet electric guitar
This theme is just so damn catchy

I like how its the ORIGINAL theme song , not the 5.1 or halloween h20 version

uh the one in h20 is the real halloween theme carpenter did in the studio.
@@alucard624 uh the one with the thumping is the real theme. its the one carpenter did in the studio in 1978. he made two versions.

Fucked me up for years; after watching this at 5 years of age! Even now, it sends serious chills into me!!
I love the Compass Int'l logo here, the music makes it loook like a snuff film
Best opening credits ever!
Halloween is one of my favourite horror movies of all time
One of the creepiest theme songs ever...right up there with "Tubular Bells" from THE EXORCIST
i remember the first time i heard the that song....it totally creeped me out!
nice video=)
Beautiful as fuck 🥃😎 The Original!
1978 was the best Halloween movie.
Mono or bust. This sounds so much better than the 5.1 version.
Simple...The MASTERPIECE!! Big Salut for Big Master John Carpenter from Serbia!
my favorite movie hands down. Musical Score, Script, Directing. John Carpenter was way ahead of his time.
The creepiest theme ever.
favorite horror movie of all time!!!!!
WOW The Media Home Entertainment logo....I haven't seen this since the days when my main copy of "Halloween" was on Betamax!
Halloween is the kind of film that keeps you both afraid and intrigued. It deals with the kind of psychology that would leave Einstein astonished. It's by far the most intelligent and intriguing horror/slasher film I've ever seen, and it set the bar for how scared movie goers can really be.
I like this version of the song!
When I watch the opening credits I always put my hands over my face and get excited
I play this song all year long
fr i need to stop😭
This theme just isn't the same without the original video and audio quality. I mean, just listen to this: (0:30)
I was 2 when I saw this film
one of my favorite horror films ever! the other being the shining.
best soundtrack ever!!
It's been a while since I saw Halloween with the "Media Entertainment" opening.
My friend's dad went to see this movie in theaters with his girlfriend, and at one point, she sent a scream directly into his ear. I'm surprised she didn't have a funnel on standby to intensify the effect. :P
Keep up the good work John carpenter
Love this theme, new movie comes out October 19th
A movie that should have never had a remake.
Brilliant music to really freak you out even in the very beginning of the movie.
Yikes! I'm still scared when I watched the opening with that scary pumkin but it's still one of the best Halloween opening theme ever! :O
Even if you put this theme to a disney movie id still be creeped out.
RIP Moustapha Akkad
I have this for tape, uncensored version, me and my dad watched this at 12:00 with EVERY light turned off it was beast!!
The only real Horror song that should be played in the streets when the kids are asking for trick or treat...
i remember this, i was around 2 or 3 wen i first heard this song. i nvr left my spot wen i watch this movie until it wuz ovr. i got myself on video watching the movie until it go on commericial i leave, and wen it back on i go back sit at the very same spot.

This movie/theme signals my bridge from summer towards winter.
Today is Feb 19 so it's awesome?
@JeanetteTherese
I agree. The human mind holds the key to real fear...the unknown...and suspence...
OMG I haven't seen the MEDIA logo in forever!!
One of the creepiest openings ever.
@hungryhungrymetroid agreed in the 1940's through the 1990's they certianly knew how to scare people with making original, unique horror movies.
LOCK YOUR DOORS BABYSITTERS! HE COMES HOME TONIGHT!
We Carved a Pumpkin this Year just ike Halloween !
If you match this with Halloween 2007 theme correctly, it sounds surprisingly better but that is my opinion LOL
@bigdsears You just made me laugh so hard I have to go lay cable now, thanks.

@greg55666 I like that the video has the MEDIA video footage reminds me of when it was first on VHS.
Is this on the vhs?
Locks you in. Period. Score, logo, & producer's name give it a snuff look.
New Halloween coming soon can’t wait
man i miss the hype
i watched stephen kings it when i was 5-6
And??? That has no fucking thing to do with Halloween
HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2011!!

great opening, just get rid of the MEDIA icon at the beginning, then it's pefect! :D
Uh, dude, might want to start your video AFTER the home video splash screen.
this and Nosferatu scares me

The Rob Zombie movies were....Okay...but no where near as good as this classic!
