- Silver Charm was one of the most tenacious racehorses of all time. At 3, he won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes after long stretch duels, then was overtaken late in the Belmont Stakes when he didn't see his rival Touch Gold. His 4-year-old season included spectacular efforts in the Dubai World Cup and Breeders' Cup Classic -- races that show he was as game in defeat as he was in victory.
Included in this video: Silver Charm's victories in the 1997 San Vicente Stakes, 1997 Kentucky Derby, 1997 Preakness Stakes, 1998 Strub Stakes, 1998 Dubai World Cup, 1998 Goodwood Handicap, 1998 Clark Handicap, and 1999 San Pasqual Handicap; and his losses in the 1997 San Felipe Stakes, 1997 Santa Anita Derby, 1997 Belmont Stakes, 1998 Breeders' Cup Classic, and 1999 Santa Anita Handicap.

1997. Overall, all 3 races... are still to this day, the "best" complete triple crown series since 1997. I can't think of a better one. Certainly not when you take into effect the rivalry of Touch Gold, Free House, Silver Charm and Captain Bodgit, with Free House and Silver Charm being the main characters. Wow. What a year for the TC series! Silver Charm was my first love of horse racing. He's what got me started. He doesn't have much time left with us on Earth. :( His memories he gave us will last forever. RIP Bob and Beverly Lewis. They let Silver Charm run into his 5 year old season. 21 times in the money out of 24 races. Enjoy your twilight years old boy.
Still the “ love of my life” horse 🤍 I loved Sunday Silence also, but SC just captured my heart the first time I saw him run and to this day I follow him. He’s special. I will cry like a baby when he’s gone. He will always be my favorite 🤍

So I met this incredible horse this week, can someone tell me why he is silver/gray now but seemed to be black back when he ran? Just asking.
With all due respect Kevin. Silver Charm was a steel charcoal gray colt at the start of his 2 yr. maiden race. He began roaning out as he aged .His foal registration states his color as gray. There's no such thing as a bad color on a good horse, a quote my father Dr. William E. Worthington DVM used to say.
