    I've had several USA Peavey Wolfgangs through the years, flat and archtop, but my $599 stock Korean Wolfgang has always been my favorite.

    just seeing this one. great score.. the Peavey yard sale few years back had some great bits and pieces. but the employees had pick of the litter.. I did not know they made a Special Deluxe.. I have a 2000 Peavey W Standard in green flame which I love and is one of the best necks I've ever played.. better than the EBMM and the current EVH for my taste.. I really like the HP Specials as well.. getting harder to find those as well..

      Yeah, this particular model was somewhat limited. The flat top "Specials" with a flame cap...are quite nice! You don't see them very often so I'm glad I found this. It is now completely reworked by GMW in a gorgeous blue burst (almost like EBMM's Yucatan Blue style). I also enjoy the neck profile of the original Peavey Wolfs. I just wish Ed would have liked the wider 1-11/16ths. That's one of the only specs I seem to struggle with on any of his sig. models. Thanks for watching!

    I had a 1999 Peavey Wolfgang U.S.A. Special and I didn't like the tone for whatever reason. Perhaps being new to the Floyd Rose and not knowing how to properly setup the guitar was part of it, but the tone seemed to be tinny and just muddy to me. I sold it in 2013 for $550 and haven't regretted it since. I have owned 2 other EVH Fender Wolfgangs that had the same issues with the tone. The reverse of that is I've owned a Purple/Black Standard that was PERFECT in every way, the tone was beautiful through those pickups, nice and beefy, but clear, the clean highs and mids were not muddy, and it played beautifully. I have a red stryker standard that also plays the same. So, just like a Stratocaster, and SG Gibson...sometimes you get a good one.

      I agree! Each guitar is completely different. Sometimes you get a dud and sometimes you get a gem. ;)

    Do you have any details on the process of recapping the top?

    • @CoffeeDrinker71
      @CoffeeDrinker71  9 месяцев назад +1

      I'm fairly certain that the old top would have to be planed off completely, then a new top would be glued and clamped in place. The hardest part would be relocating all of the routings for pickups and trem. The top on this one was nice enough that I decided to leave it in tact.

    I'm assembling a Peavey wolfgang, too. But I ran into a situation with the bridge mounting screws. Did you find a set that works with the Wolfgang yet?

    • @CoffeeDrinker71
      @CoffeeDrinker71  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I sure did. They are M6 thread size. Mitchel at MeanStreet Guitars sells the Floyd Rose brand. The bushings are too big for the stock holes in the body, but they come with the correct sized mounting screws.

      @CoffeeDrinker71  3 года назад

      I'm pretty sure these are the correct ones. Check with Mitchel first...

      @@DevilMayAsian If you are looking for a black finish option, there is a version on WD Music website. They sell a post and bushing set as well. The bushing is pretty long/deep but if you’re considering using black hardware then at least you would have that option.

    Did you ever finish it?
    I have a 99 peavey usa special that I am going to put the poundcake pickups in it. Got it off of reverb a week or so ago, guy striped it himself, I took it to a paint and body shop here locally and it will be redone to as close as he can replicate my frankie striped strat.
    Got the neck with hardware, body was stripped of the floyd rose and pickups. Anyway should get it back in a couple of weeks.

      That's cool! ...and yes, it was finished by Lee at GMW Guitar Works. It looks and sounds amazing. I never got around to making a "final" video for it, but Lee posted a few photos on his FB page.

      @@CoffeeDrinker71 If your good with a router, you just do it in steps, then sand it out. I know that is time consuming for anyone with a schedule. Just a thought. The only trouble is that you would probably have to angle the neck pocket a few degrees. Anyway, good luck with the build.

      @@CoffeeDrinker71 Yeah, I thought that there was plenty of flame in that top. It's just not finished in a way that would reveal it. I don't like staining figured maple. It looses its chatoyance/ shimmer. I always clear coat it first. That's just a matter of preference, because staining it can make it pop more, and can look amazing if done properly.
