      You are completely right.
      When it has the exact same negatives as it does positives there is no reason to pick this as the negatives will come out an equal number of times. This relic literally is like picking no relic at all... but worse.
      Since to get the strength you need more discards (Relics) and to upgrade many orbs to +2 which means you can't afford shop Relics. The few moments it may help or come in clutch is only because it nearly ended you in the first place.
      For something like this Relic to work it needs to be -1, 0, +1, +2.

    Honestly the build looked like a hot mess but by the end had nearly too many options to fail. Far too tanky to die to bouts of bad rng, constant steady scaling in battle, very consistent healing from multiple sources, squirrel doing the work of the gods. This is they type of build I can see going some real distance in an endless mode as with 1 or 2 upgrades it would become near immortal.

    • @Endede
      @Endede Год назад +1

      This build had so many good things going for itself. Maybe it felt messy because it was so diversified, but that made it very strong. The healing, but also the swolt orb synergizing with the double damage slime.

    • @LuciferLuckless
      @LuciferLuckless Год назад +2

      @@Endede Sadly Swoltorb doesn't really synergise with double damage slime as the damage of the peg doesn't get doubled, only the damage of the orb. So say you have a peg with 10 on it from the adventurine and also has double damage slime and you hit it with a level one pebball with no buffs on a non-crit. The 2 damage of the pebball will get doubled but the 10 from the peg will not, so the double damage slime will cause your damage to go from 2+10=12 to (2*2)+10=14.
      I kinda hope they change this because the alternative would be a lot more spicy, but maybe they tested it and it was too op or something. Slime builds already get a lot of benefit from upgrading pegs thanks to the durable that slime gives to pegs as well as the way the generatorb works.

    I'd been trying to figure out some new builds for this, but man… the nerfs to damage that came with this update are utterly _BRUTAL._ Even having an identical setup for what was previously a really stacked Oroborous or Spinfection build can still struggle _really hard_ now.
    The Dice + Pie + Squirrel relics kept your damage boosted really well in this one without upgrading being needed, but even then, there were a bunch of stages where you could see how much tougher it was. Along with the growing max health & healing getting you +100 extra life, that end boss was still manageable - but it also points out the general difficulty with other builds: money.
    Just consider how much money healing costs & how every time you need to take that, it negatively impacts your ability to upgrade _or_ get new orbs. The damage nerfs also effectively make it harder to get any build going because you have to pay to survive more often unless you can luck into a really good healing relic or big damage output early on.
    Most every run I've tried has either just failed to get any build going at all, or the build has died too early to tell if it's any good. (Doing Cruciball runs has felt pretty insurmountable).

      I've found this new update to make the game feel a lot better balanced, and getting the new character to cruciball 15 and beating it was a lot easier and less frustrating than any of the other characters. Granted, I've basically been playing exclusively the new character, so maybe the Spinventor is just overtuned. But general changes like all of the new orbs and relics being good so you are more likely to find good orbs and relics - crucially the new squirrel relic being a new boss relic that is generically good across all runs so you're less likely to end up having to skip your boss relic because they all suck major ass - really help (honestly my biggest problem with Peglin before this update was that most boss relics are just run killers unless you're in a very specific kind of situation so any step away from that is a huge positive for me).
      Orboros being nerfed was a bit sad, but honestly Orboros was pretty bad for high Cruciball levels already and Orboros only is a pretty braindead "build" that shouldn't be an auto win anyway. I did not even know that spinfection had been nerfed though, that sounds pretty bad. Despite personally liking the Roundrel, they were definitely the hardest character for me to beat Cruciball 15 with, and a nerf to spinfection just makes it even harder. I found that crit builds were a lot more consistent for the Roundrel than status effect builds anyway, so that's even more perplexing. The Roundrel did get some new crit focused orbs in this update though, and they're pretty fun, I did do a run with them that was very successful.

    • @PierceArner
      @PierceArner Год назад

      @@LuciferLuckless I think the external advantage of the bonus damage the Spinventor gets to having unique orbs is MASSIVELY offsetting just how much of a difference the damage nerf that makes for the other characters like the regular Peglin.
      I've been doing Cruciball 9 with the regular Peglin (which makes the red bombs deal more damage) and prior to the update I had every run getting to the final stage and most of them getting to the final boss. I usually ended up just not having enough damage to kill the boss fast enough before dying or I'd end up with Durable fighting the Dragon which is basically just an auto-loss.
      Post update, I've had only three TOTAL runs get to the stage 2 boss …and literally NONE of them got past him. I haven't even gotten to see red bombs yet, which SHOULD be the main difficulty in the run.
      Most of my runs have ended up dead before I could even get anything that seemed like a viable build going because I'm ending up dumping money into healing rather than orbs or upgrades. Grinding through the first stage and a half of Peglin on repeat is… well just about anything else is more fun.
      Like you said the boss relics are basically run killers, and the Squirrel is essentially the ONLY worthwhile one where there's not a MASSIVE negative to offset a meager advantage. The issue is that unless you're getting relics that allow you to have a lot of healing & damage, you're gonna massively struggle.
      Spinfectious Sting is a +1/+2 now that never increases in damage and only hits the front target, meaning it's LITERALLY useless against all the shield enemies in Stage 2 unless you get a relic with piercing. Toil & Trouball is a +2/+3 that hits any target, and is just a better version of that, and Cauldron Bubball is a +1/+2 that hits every target. None of their base damage values goes up, ONLY the Spinfection total, so Spinfectious Sting is just never worth getting at all because it's just a worse version of both of those now.
      I've had a build that had the piercing relic, Bombs dealt 1 Spinfection, all attacks dealt 2 Spinfection, I had two Double Trouballs to double the Spinfection on a target, the Cauldron Bubball to hit everyone, and the Bomb Orb, all maxed out… and that was the one that got me the farthest into the Stage 2 boss before dying.
      All the other runs I've had made it to that boss on nearly full HP without having anything even remotely resembling a viable build, or with a decent build but on half health meaning you die in two hits unless you've gotten lucky on relics to help you tank or heal… but why is that? I'm taking WAY too much damage early in the run, because the orbs are weaker now, which means more money to heal and less on orbs.
      Prior to the update, you could go down into a crazy singular build like Oroborous that sacrificed everything else for damage, or focus around Min/Maxing a singular approach, but even doing that now feels like it doesn't pack enough punch on its own… because the orbs are all nerfed _so that Spinventor's character buff works better._
      Spinventor's +1/+2 to unique orbs _basically DOUBLES the damage output of all weak orbs._ Even if you could only afford 1 and were to take the _objectively bad_ Spinfectious Sting, that would be a +2/+4 which makes a MASSIVE difference in your overall damage output.
      To frame that differently: _Every other character deals HALF as much damage with just base orbs in the early game._ So the Spinventor already deals more damage and takes less damage early on, and can afford to spend on orbs more than heals, which snowballs that effectiveness.
      …which is why the early game sucks now on other characters, because it seems to have JUST been balance tested specifically around Spinventor.

    • @LuciferLuckless
      @LuciferLuckless Год назад

      @@PierceArner Wait, I'm confused. From what you're describing, none of the poison orbs have been changed by the patch. Spinfectious sting was always a 1/2 that upgraded to boost its poison. Cauldron Bubball still upgrades to be a 2/3 at level 3, I just checked that in-game. Toil and Trouball was always a 2/3 that targets any enemy. Did they nerf the damage of the spinfection status itself or something? Because none of these are changes.
      To my knowledge the only actual nerfs have been Orboros getting reduced to a 1/2 but also getting indirectly buffed because echo carries between reloads now and the spinterest payment going from uncommon to rare which makes sense because it was just an objectively better Highway Orbery at the same rarity before. I haven't found a single other orb that was nerfed.
      You take a lot of damage on high cruciball levels. The trick is that if you're taking a lot of damage, try to go as long as you can without spending your gold on healing to instead spend your gold on buying and upgrading new orbs. If you have better orbs and you are upgrading them on curve you will do more damage, killing enemies sooner and causing you to take less damage. Like most games, preventing damage is more cost-effective than healing it. There are also good healing orbs like the doctorb and the new ballm that will be more cost effective than buying healing.
      The Act 1 boss into Act 2's shielded knights has always been the biggest difficulty spike in high cruciball runs, but the thing is that you know it's coming. You know that you're going to need both good single target damage orbs and good crowd clearing orbs going into Act 2. That can be orbs that pierce all targets or orbs that target any enemy to pick off archers and wizards from behind their shielded friends.
      High Cruciball levels are hard and frustrating. I've done them myself and I'm not entirely sure they're worth it. But they're slightly easier and less frustrating than before, and they get easier and less frustrating with each patch the game puts out.

It just feels like a complete detriment to move one step closer to giving enemies a free turn without any damage output in exchange. So I'm confused why extra discard relic seems to be your favorite.

      Incredibly niche builds.
      In his case it is probably because he likes Dungeon Dice as that is the only way to make it slightly useful is with many discards.

      A lot of orbs that you buy in this game are a lot better than pebballs. So usually, you buy quite a few new orbs to make your deck stronger. But you'd much rather be throwing the new orbs that you've added than the awful pebballs you started with, so you usually want to discard the pebballs so you can throw your better orbs sooner.
      There are also some orbs that are situationally really good but also situationally subpar. For example, the daggorb only does 1 damage per peg if it doesn't crit, so it's half as good as even an unupgraded stone if you know you're probably not going to crit, so skipping it literally doubles your damage for that shot. Conversely, if a crit seems really likely, you can skip a stone if the daggorb is up next to also basically double your damage for that shot. It might not always be wise to do this, as there may be like a green slime that's been reduced to 11 health in front of a full health blue slime as your enemies, in which case you probably are willing to do one low-damage shot just to clear away the green slime so your high-damage daggorb can one-shot the blue slime, but if, say, the Minotaur elite is up in your face with the axe above his head, You'd much rather do one big shot to finish off the minotaur than take a middling stone shot that only halves its health, as the latter results in you getting hit by that axe for 22 damage.
      In a later game build where you've removed your stones to make your deck more consistent you might also have picked up something like a poltorbgeist, which damages all enemies but doesn't have the greatest damage stats. If you're up against a horde of shielded knights you want to skip aggressively to get to your poltorbgeist so you can kill all the knights and archers and wizards in one hit without having to go through a bunch of shields, but if you're up against a single big monster with a high health pool like the Wall you may want to skip your poltorbgeist so you can throw another orb which does more damage per peg since you only need single target damage.
      Yes skipping technically makes you reload more often, but with a good deck I find that you kinda just clear maps before you have to reload anyway, especially if you line up the right orbs for the right situations by discarding. In any case, it's usually fine to reload once every 3 or 4 shots, as long as the shots you did take were good.

    Don't appreciate the clickbait title, by the way.

    Recently played with a Spinterest Payment orb and did ridiculous damage, like 30/50 or something.
