To explain part of the artstyle: the original show was three-tone until the last season when it became two-tone. The animation itself feels like it's animated on 2's or 3's (so it becomes 12 or 9 frames a second instead of 24) but that could also just be them saving money on non-action scenes so they can animate on 1's for the big action scenes
So Morph wasn't in the comics, he was created for the original series and had the jacket and black hair look but was loosely based off of Changeling from the comics, then in the comics they reintroduced Changeling as Morph and basically combined the characters so it looks like '97 will have him going through a secondary mutation similar to how Beast became a blue furball after years of just being an acrobatic guy with feet that can crab things. Also yeah Cal Dodd posted pictures of himself in the recording studio for this.

I genuinely think this, more than anything, was the origin for the entire mcu and comics importance in pop culture today. Yes, Superman and Batmans movies were big, but this show was truly the origin of anyone over 35 right now loved comics growing up
This and the Spider-Man series that aired around the same time. For me I watched more Spider-Man (like every single episode religiously) and only occasionally caught an episode of X-Men, but there are things I can never forget like that theme song. But they also crossed over a lot between those shows because they were set in the same universe. So there were quite a few Spider-Man episodes with Wolverine or Beast or whoever in them.

@@ArmonV it deserves a lot of credit. But as far as the time period and how big this show was...it really started a huge movement. The X-Men and blade movies of the late 90s and early 2000s helped a lot, but those movies never would have been made without this show hitting like it did.

Fun fact: The voice actor for Jean Grey was pregnant so they weaved it into the story to make it easier on the actor

I have never watched the original animated series but that is a damn good trailer so I just might now, unfortunately I’d heard somewhere it doesn’t hold up well especially when compared to things like BTAS but hopefully it’s good enough for me to watch it all.
the animation isn't as good, and some of the line delivery and storylines are kinda questionable, but it's still a lot of fun, and worth watcihing before this comes out, especially as this seems to pick up where the original series ended.
i'm with Nick - for me, *X-Men* were *the* Marvel team as well. it looks and sounds so awesome, they're really nailing the style of the original series, and i love that the story and Morph both seem to be drawing from stories from the comic.
whatever Disney does, they're gonna cop backlash, be it updating the animation or keeping it kinda jank like back in the 90's, or if they keep the politics & themes that are the heart of *X-Men,* which i hope they do, because the late, great *Stan Lee* & *Jack Kirby* created *X-Men* together as an allegory for the Civil Rights movement and a commentary on bigotry and societal divides of the time, sadly, not too dissimilar to what's happening again today.
it looks like they're staying true to that vision, so i hope they're able to ignore the internet outrage mill & get to tell the story they really wanna tell, the way they wanna tell it, whatever that happens to be.

The next chapter to simply the BEST adaptation to the X-men comics, ever!! The main reason I am still subbing to Disney+ as phase 4 has been pretty dire ,mostly.....

I will say I'm not a huge fan of the "jumpy" low-frame rate animation, maybe it's because the newer age animated shows are so much more fluid in their animation that I'm used to it, but it just felt too old. Also I didn't watch the OG show, but this does look really good. When I was younger I was more of a DC fan, so I watched those shows, and perhaps just prefer those styles, not saying this doesn't look cool and I'll watch it for sure. Just not the biggest fan of the low-frame rate animation

Looks like the same animation style as Invincible. None of the voices sounded like the OG actors at all, suppose some of them have passed or just they aged too much to do those voices at least. Wolvie, Magneto and Cyclops are the ones that stand out as wildy different sounding.

My assumption is at least some of them couldn't handle holding out til recording so it wouldn't have been blind

They mentioned in a games daily that they watched in during the Super Bowl multiple times. People would walk in and they replayed it. So no Deadpool reactions unfortunately.

That last season of X-men had rough animation because they outsourced it to some cheap animation company that didn’t know what they were doing. At least this will look better than that.
I wish studios would commit to 2D animation like we used to. This doesnt look terrible, but I dont think its acceptable for the sequel 25 years later to look worse than the original.

Immediately I’m disappointed by the animation. I know I’m in the minority but modern animation just doesn’t work for me 90% of the time. I miss the 90s style. I understand it’s an outdated mode of production but if you’re reviving a 90s cartoon off the back of nostalgia, at least do your best to animate it similarly. The premise of Magneto getting Xavier’s possessions is interesting and the action shot of gambit and wolverine is sick. Overall, still looking forward to watching once I adjust to the animation

Well tbf, the concept of his helmet protecting him from telepathy didn’t get introduced until the first movie in 2000 so that was never his reason for wearing it in the 90s animated show.
“Something doesn’t feel right” they changed morph to be binary. Yeah that ain’t right
Animation looks super stiff and almost flash animationy at certain points which has me a little concerned but I am still hyped and in other spots like when storm is powering up it looks pretty fluid and awesome. So will see but I hope for at least fluidity, i can handle flat animation like invincible but the one thing that takes me out of an anime or cartoon is stiff almost framey or still image animation.
Still hyped? Bet not.

Not a fan of the art style, looks real rough in spots and also I'm not a big fan of that at style done in modern times. Also logans VA does not sound right. Something about it just felt off and i didn't like it at all
