- Yesterday I felt like singing, and this happens to be one of my all-time favourite songs. There's more than enough sad songs about Johhny-who-goes-to-war-and-dies, but Arthur McBride tells the recruiting sergeant just where he can stick his fancy speech and I just really sympathise with the attitude.
This style of semi-melodic backing is something I've only recently been developing a feeling for. I'm not there yet by a long shot, but I definitely feel like I'm improving!
Man, an album of you playing solo like this with songs and tunes would be such a gem. Sounds amazing as always
Brilliant!
Full bodied folk music (classic)…wonderfully performed by the Tinj Berends duo…
Ну, красотища же!!!🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great version
Fantastic 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Fantastic
Fantastic!
I hope to learn to play like you do.
exquisite
Great stuff Tijn, I was lucky enough to attend the Planxty concert in Dublin (my home town) eons ago, when they sang this, love your version.
Amazing! A great take on a fine version of a classic tune. You should get your brother to sing though. ;)
that timing seems super tricky, good work!!
Bellissima interpretazione di Mac bride
Gorgeous job.
Quality!!
Thank you for this bounty. Always a pleasure to hear you perform!
Sounds really great :)
Great song and vocal.
Loving that you still come out with entertaining content. Really really enjoy all of your videos and was wondering if you would be willing to do a video of one of Gerald Trimble’s tunes from his album first flight. Can’t wait for more!
Great version, well done
I've been listening to the Planxty version of this song for years, and love this song! You sound great in this video - vocals and instruments!
If you could use a mic to pick up your voice better, you'll get a better mix, though.
Lovely job, sounds beautiful!
This is crazy good! Love it!
Wow...
If you enjoy this lovely version of the song, Paul Brady's very different take might be worth hearing.
Beautiful music Tijn. What tuning do you play guitar accompaniments in, and do you have any tips? I play irish banjo and then guitar separately, but looking to get into guitar accompaniment to tunes and it's another world! Thanks
I play the paul brady version of this tune on guitar but recently got a bouzouki and have been looking for a good arrangement. This is fantastic! Did you arrange it yourself?
Oh, would you please make a tutorial for this?
Great sound. Please set up a channel to mic your vocal efforts for the mix.
This is brilliant! Are there examples out there you would point to as other indicators of this style you're developing?
Thanks! I'd definitely recommend listening to Planxty, Andy Irvine, Dervish, and Daoiri Farrell for this kind of stuff.
Have to agree with McBurnie... An album of you playing classics in this format would be over-the-top. Maybe find a pretty girl with a concertina or fiddle to add some fills, but nothing more than that...
Wonderful job ! I'm a fan of your musics dude. On this one, I just feel that the guitars cover a bit too much you voice :)
Killer arrangement but you gotta sing louder!
Don’t mic your vocals…they sit perfectly in the mix
