Why USB-C cables have chips inside that can talk to your phone

There is a reason why your cable has some active electronics inside that use an IC to talk to your phone, laptop or other device that needs more power or data speed that USB2.0/15W.

Thanks for the info. But, for the red USB3 cable, why does the "emarker info" mention USB4 if the "available options" doesn't. Very confusing.

That's a good question, the USB PD reply can include "[USB 3.2]/[USB4] Gen2" and be interpreted differently depending on the other cable parameters
