Good tutorial. Turns out my problem was not not extracting the roms. The system txt file says u can keep it in a 7z but it's wrong. You rll cover everything in these tutorials. Keep up the good work bro.

Hi thanks for the video, a couple of comments, you can adjust the taskbar on the steam deck to allow applications to go 'over' it, they may help you not have to switch the resolution of the steam deck. Additionally, what I was looking for was optimal performance settings using power tools and citra, it appears you may not be using them at all(?)

@@ED4T I encountered a problem when I launched the 3ds game. My steamdeck showed only the default 3ds dual screen, unlike yours which showed full screen. And all the buttons (ABXY, direction buttons, etc,) are not responding. I can only uses the touchscreen. I'm using the latest citra version
Hey buddy, I have vibrant deck is on and saturation level at 130. Also all my game are set at 3x native resolution. No other enchantments. Hope this helps you.
I have Dragon Quest 8 undub, CIA version. I decrypted it, and works fine in Desktop mode, but when I click Parse, after Preview, Steam Rom Manager says "1 User Configuration(s) was/were skipped (invalid)." so I can't have it in Gaming Mode. IDK, maybe because it's an edited version of the rom?

The performance is exactly the same i would say. I prefer to install it on an SD card so if you need to upgrade to OLED Deck or maybe deck 2 in the future it will be easier to move stuff over.
Okay so I have a problem with Citra on Steam Deck through Emudeck. Whe I quit a 3DS game in game mode it may sometimes reboot my Deck. Why is it doing this? Also, I'm not sure what is causing it but games open up with the Citra library page showing first so I have to switch windows. Really annoying and I can't find a fix. I don't know what triggers this to happen.

I wondered if there was a dedicated 2DS emulator so that 3DS games aren't trying to process the extra camera angle that creates the illusion, but can't find anything. What can I do to optimize performance for 3DS games that won't be played in 3D?

For me the emulation works great, but when I try to add it to my steam library it won’t let it show up with the rest of my emulated games and gives the message “Roms directory is invalid!”

On top of that, almost every other 3ds pokemon game I downloaded won't launch anymore even though they were all working the day before. Did I trigger something to make the games stop working? I haven't been able to figure out what went wrong.
I have this exact same problem! Did you find a fix? Everything was running great and now Citra crashes every time. The one fix I’ve been able to do is to uninstall and reinstall emudeck.
@@Filthy_Casual101 Unfortunately no. I even redownloaded the roms and reset everything and nothing. Its definitely either a Citra issue or an Emudeck issue. Did reinstalling Emudeck cause your save files to vanish? I haven't tried that yet and I'm kinda worried about it.

Great Video i really appreciate all the helpful/useful tips, I can now use the fast forward function now with my 3ds games. I had one question about getting dlc into my citra emulator, for some reason I can’t get it to update on my steam deck, I decrypt the cia file but I’m unable to get it to upload into the emulator in it’s cci format I’ve been trying to get it to work with my fire emblem games but whatever I try doesn’t seem to be working. I’d really appreciate any advice/help I can get.

So I'm trying to get Metroid Samus Returns to run, and it's literally going at 3fps. I don't know what else to change or alter, it's only when the game actually starts. The controls work, all the Citra options are there, but it's going 1-3 fps as stated in the full screen window, working at 100%

I have the same problem on 1877 nightly of citra I think it's a problem with the version of citra. I tried multiple files CIA decrypted .3ds and none work. I must have tried for two hours all to no avail. I think we have to wait for citra to update to a different nightly, such a bummer.

Can you help me i never had this issue before untill tonight everytime I launch citra or emustation to play my 3ds games The game plays in the background but im still on the game menue that shows the games
if you follow every single step I show it should work with no issue. make sure your shortcut key is correct inside of the emulator double check that. Also, check your individual game setting to see if your game was set to fast-forward speed by default.
@ED4T wow, thank you for the quick reply. I did tweaks on my own, and at 14:41 when you unthrottle the speed I changed the drop down back to "Use Global" or whatever it's listed as. Besides that minor change, I did everything exactly the same (keybind R-stick to 1) and it toggles flawlessly in game. I'm thinking maybe changing individual games emulation speed may not be necessary? Not sure on that though
Anyone else have Citra just Crash randomly today? Was using it fine earlier in the morning and then a crash message came up when I tried to load in the afternoon. Was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if there's a fix or just wait until there's a new emulator on there ?
Please tell me I can get The Mercenaries 3D to run on my Steam Deck flawlessly like this, it would easily be the most perfect way to play for me especially since I never owned a 3DS.

Hola ! Does anyone really manage to make Citra work stutterless on a steamdeck ? I am using Batocera It does the same whenever I use maximum or minimum configuration... Tried on Mario Land and Link Between Worlds, this is not comfortable to play... These bigs lags are always at the very same moments in the game.. it is actually more stable in Resolution x4 this is nonsense If anyone has any idea 🙏
maybe try with EmuDeck instead of Batocera. does Batocera use the latest version of Citra. all the 3ds games I tested are running pretty steady at 60FPS.
@@ED4T i just tried to install it, I will continue tonight and keep this updated, I am already surprised how good Emudeck looks compared to Batocera, the thumbnails etc. This must be Destiny because my SD card got corrupted last night and I lost my whole Linux partition after trying a new Paper Mario 64 texture pack Lost two months of daily gaming, gotta process that now I wouldn't recommend Batocera on the Steam Deck whatever people who love it say
install wine or Proton GE. I am not sure if that will work but it will allow you run exe file. i suggest to install windows on a sd card so you can run windows on your steam deck.
3ds is the only thing you will never really be able to emulate because it's just not fun with 2 small screens that are squeezed together, and somehow you always need both of them.
Man, I COPIED this, and I still get " Your ROM is encrypted. Please follow the guides to resume your game cartridges or installed titles." And then it shows me the games are in "invalid region". IDK what that means, I copied the roms and pasted them into emulation oms\3ds. Im new to emulation and I been doing step by step guides from 3 different vids, this is so annoying :(

I don’t think so try to reset your emulator configuration in EmuDeck. This is an issue with EmuDeck.

you need to Install Steam Deck Plug in (Decky Loader ) then go to EmuDeck and install GryoDSU.
Is battery life decent with these games? I’d mostly want to visit games to have better graphics or perhaps the 3d enhanced n64 ports.
Yes for 3DS the batterylife is pretty good. you can put the deck to low tdp it works fine.
Does Citra allow you install and play older regular DS titles as well? I know that was an issue when trying to install them on a jailbroken 3ds.
Citra is only for 3DS.

I never realized that. If vulkan is not available then the EmuDeck just grabbed the OpenGL version I guess.

3ds is probably rhe one system i would bever play on the deck, just too hard for it to mimic that dual screen gameplay. Good vid tho

You can try rest the emulator configuration see if that fix the problem. This video shows how to do it.

Did you get any error msg? You cannot run the cci format ?
@@ED4T yeah, the error message that comes up says “decrypted.cci is not a valid CIA” I click file then install CIA and then that error message pops up
You don’t have to install cci. Just copy and paste them into the roms folder that’s all. No installation required for cci files.

How do you disable parsers? My Emudeck doesn't have that drop-down selection of disable/enable.
at 02:32 make sure Steam Rom manager Parsers is highlighted not greyed out.

you can switch the both screen by pressing back button on the deck.
@@ED4T I'm using the Citra 3DS template is there a back button on that template?
You can set a back button if you want just go inside citra 3d from desktop mode you can set buttons from there.

nope, you don't have to. you can download everything from Steam Deck.
I have gotten the files and put them in correct folder but it seems I can only open my game in steam desktop mode i can’t get it on game mode 😞

The game plays in the background but im still on the game menue that shows the games
Before I would just click on the game and it would work on my steamdeck. Now it opens up the menue for citra and then load games in background
Have you try to reset you 3ds emulator configuration from EmuDeck?

Open Citra from desktop mode and go to File > Install CIA select the dlc or cia files you would like to install

I did the same steps shown for Fast Forwarding but my game is locked into high speeds with the toggle not working. Anyone else have that happen?
if you follow every single step I show it should work with no issue. make sure your shortcut key is correct inside of the emulator double check that. Also, check your individual game setting to see if your game was set to fast-forward speed by default.

I did tweaks on my own, and at 14:41 when you unthrottle the speed I changed the drop down back to "Use Global" or whatever it's listed as.
Besides that minor change, I did everything exactly the same (keybind R-stick to 1) and it toggles flawlessly in game.
I'm thinking maybe changing individual games emulation speed may not be necessary? Not sure on that though

you can set different toggle speed per game. toggle alternate speed is global setting.
Anyone else have Citra just Crash randomly today? Was using it fine earlier in the morning and then a crash message came up when I tried to load in the afternoon. Was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if there's a fix or just wait until there's a new emulator on there ?
Donkey Kong Country Returns crashes for me every time I try and skip the intro cutscene. Other games work fine so far.

most of 3DS game will run perfectly fine on Steam Deck.

Does anyone really manage to make Citra work stutterless on a steamdeck ? I am using Batocera
It does the same whenever I use maximum or minimum configuration... Tried on Mario Land and Link Between Worlds, this is not comfortable to play... These bigs lags are always at the very same moments in the game.. it is actually more stable in Resolution x4 this is nonsense

maybe try with EmuDeck instead of Batocera. does Batocera use the latest version of Citra. all the 3ds games I tested are running pretty steady at 60FPS.
@@ED4T i just tried to install it, I will continue tonight and keep this updated, I am already surprised how good Emudeck looks compared to Batocera, the thumbnails etc.

install wine or Proton GE. I am not sure if that will work but it will allow you run exe file. i suggest to install windows on a sd card so you can run windows on your steam deck.

no, you don't need. just do what I showed in the video and it will work.
3ds is the only thing you will never really be able to emulate because it's just not fun with 2 small screens that are squeezed together, and somehow you always need both of them.
yeah, I agree with you. it will end up with 2 small screens but we do have the option to play 3DS game on the Steam Deck rather than on the 3DS.

my 3ds game is not appearing on emudeck I tried it on the citrus emulator itself and it works fine so I don't know the problem here
try to reset your citrus emualtor's configuration in EmuDeck then try to re-pasers.
@ED4T that didn't work, it's so weird because it functions fine even I use it in the emulator itself. So its literally emudeck having this problem.
Apparently the problem was the file where the games go is wrong I had to change 3ds to n3ds. So dumb LOL

Man, I COPIED this, and I still get " Your ROM is encrypted. Please follow the guides to resume your game cartridges or installed titles." And then it shows me the games are in "invalid region". IDK what that means, I copied the roms and pasted them into emulation
