In a historic election on May 29, South Africa could witness the biggest political shift since the end of apartheid in 1994. Over the weekend, all political parties went full throttle as election campaigning came to a close. President Cyril Ramaphosa held his last giant rally at the FNB stadium in Soweto. While opinion polls say the ANC will lose its majority for the first time since Nelson Mandela led it to victory in 1994, Ramaphosa declared that the party was poised for a decisive win. Former president Jacob Zuma mounted an 11th-hour assault on the ANC's grip on power. Democratic Party leader John Steenhuisen also addressed a massive rally and urged voters to back his party to avoid a "doomsday" scenario of the ANC forming a coalition with radical parties. Yet the violence in kzn has already begun, and people are afraid to vote. We have unbelievable lengths of no water or electricity weekly. It's all south Africans basic right. Why is it not the same in Cape town?. Why r doctors sitting unemployed?. The longest most expensive degree?. Why ate there a lack of specialists in hospitals?. Shouldn't you want your own drs be the best, rather than having such few specialization posts?. And you wish to implement without enough of them, or infrastructure, the national health system?. When you cannot help those waiting for days in hospitals for beds, waiting for treatment? Is that not the reason drs have left this country for greener pastures when they had the chance to?. Why cant you drop the price of staple food for the majority of this country? How can you eat knowing your own people... your children are starving?. What did you do when south africans of indian origin or descent were having their homes and businesses being looted , threatened, and having to be forced out of those very same homes and businesses whilst it was ransacked ?. The police even did nothing but watch. So whites and Indians... thought I was south african... who make up a large part of the population of south africans, many who employ the poor at the rate set by government...eg, maids, are now feeling that like our president, should have bodyguards too?. Will government cut their salaries, guards, cars, flying first or business class, and things I will only say as this, bee, covid funds.. white elephants, eskom.. just words aimed at nobody. People get excited by the promises of political parties during election time, but after the votes are counted, there is no delivery service of those promises. Education is a joke in this country. It is only through proper schools with proper teachers of all races... bcos other races are threatened to leave black majority schools bcos they are not wanted, on numerous occasions.. proper desks, chairs, blackboards, computers etc, can this new generation see no colour, have educated minds that will grow without pettiness, bias or greed, with the ability to think critically, to fairly lead this nation to be a powerhouse to be reckoned with, on a global platform. However, can hungry children learn. Indeed, food is provided in many schools... yet the large quantities of bread or food left over seems to disappear. Should that not be given to children to take home so they have more than just one meal a day?. The crime rate is out of control, and people are simply fed up!!. If politicians and parties wish to lead a country, then learn what leadership actually is, stand accountable for your actions or lack of it, fill others pockets not just increases that r ridiculous for councillors, yourselves and your ministers... in India, which is quickly flourishing, the president doesn't see the need to be lavish wrt to the cars he is driven in. Cant yourll learn from other countries?. This is not America or the UK. And it will never be, if you continue raising fuel prices, hence food prices, and everything else. Then again, how is it that many poor, for whom houses were built, dont live in them but own many and rent them out..to those more poor, whilst they live in squatter camps virtually on our doorsteps?. To all leaders from all parties, do you have squatters near your home?. Why are there still squatter camps anyway?. Low cost housing was your solution to this. Is it solved?. What is it about yourll that you can watch injustices and suffering, yet still keep getting richer and richer, as even the middle classes get poor. From someone who was a patriotic south african... I have not yet lost hope. Hopefully yourll will not lose your sight.
