You two are the perfect example of nice, kind people attracting kind, nice responses. Maya, you look so happy, you positively glow in this video. Sail on!
It was so nice to meet both of you and I’m so happy you enjoyed the concert! The two songs featured from the concert are called “Lær mig nattens stjerne” (“teach me, star of the night”) and “Lyse nætter” (“Bright nights”). I have the latter one recorded in full length on my channel. I look forward to following your next adventures!
There is an addon to the song “Lyse nætter”. The lyrics were written by the danish singer and actress Alberte Winding. Her mom was Lulu Gauguin, which grand father was the famous french painter Paul Gauguin.
Greetings from a Danish. It is common that retail shops in Denmark close at 6pm on business days and 1pm on Saturdays, Sundays they are closed. Retail staff are paid very high wages compared to North America, making it difficult to keep them open long hours. Also, we really appreciate our off-days. :) There are exceptions in bigger cities and larger malls, but generally what you see here is typical. Great videos!
It is obvious that you are where you want to be, Maya and Aladino. Your videos are so different from many other, populist channels. I bet you get the best reaction from the folks you visit, because of your sensitivity to others and their lives. "New episode every Friday", as I've said before, sounds so magnetic. Such a comforting, attractive, worthwhile channel. Thank you both.
I agree with Nick. You were especially valued as visitors to the island because you jointed them in an activity they treasured in a quiet, natural, and respectful way, not because you were trying to attract attention.
Very interesting, I do remember the sorren Larsen. I'm sure it was used in an old time tv series. I can't remember the name of the program but I can remember the tune. Put a little fishy in the little dishie when the boat comes in. Your parents would know. So cool to here your mum's a kiwi girl. So interesting, thanks for sharing.👍 SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand.
If ever a square peg could fit into a round hole, it would be the two of you. No matter the location, of your foreign travels, to unknown lands, you are right at home. Beautiful people, visiting beautiful people. 💕
I don't mind telling you you are too hard on yourself. You're allowed to show displeasure either with the shrimp or ... Another GREAT episode - thank you!
Normally I hate it, when there are filmed sequences of people, who are actually eating. The very private moment of opening the mouth, biting and chewing ....well, up to this video I rated such a scene as non-go, especially with the camera close-up. I nearly wanted to jump foreward, expecting I can't stand what obviously was coming ... luckily I didn't activate the foreward jump. You made me change my mind ... what an incredible shot showing the pureness of enjoying a bite of food. That was amazing.
Bravo à vous deux, Maya et Aladino. Votre récit de voyage est d'une grande sensibilité, si rare de nos jours sur Internet. Merci de partager avec nous un peu de rêve et votre immense enthousiasme. Bon voyage, Jonathan
I think the big difference now is the huge amount of information and goods you can buy. If you want product A from brand B you can buy it. I remember needing some parts for my Buck engine that the only shop nearby could not get. Now you can buy them on the internet and let them ship to some harbour. And you can find all info needed for a crossing, have weather data, GPS, sat phones etc. In the 70's you were really on your own from start to finnish. I lived in a small village without a decent library and loved electronics. The only source of info was that library. Now I can find everything I want to know. For young people it is hard to imagine how it is without internet to answer everything you want to know ( or buy)
Good to see the numbers of viewers increase above 60,000. I have been with you since your initial rebuild of Magic Carpet I and Maya's gift of her boat.. Enjoy your sailing of the Scandanavian countries. If you ever get back to Holland and arrive or visit Winkel, Hoorn or Gouda, drop me a note. These places are where my Dutch ancestors are from. Fair Sailing! Mihael Van Winkle
Master and Commander. I just can’t imagine Aladino giving up this boat. He’s given so much to her but so has she to him. Another outstanding video Maya, thank you
You are so right about books. I will buy your book in a heart beat! You are a master wordsmith Maya! You mentioned the Pardays and their travels before the age of electronics. I too did my passage making in the days before all this wizardry! It was simpler times for sure. People actually talked to each other! Wooden boats, celestial navigation and more "seat if the pants" sailing. Did it and wouldn't trade those memories for anything! Sail on! Sweden awaits!
Thank you for posting these highly entertaining videos. Having just watched this one, I think it is safe to say that with Aladino around you won’t feel the need to have children. Delightful. Bon voyage. Cheers from NZ.
Such Scandinavian weather. So like England where I grew up sailing. I could do hear the lyric as if it was English , similar roots. Delighted to see yacht clubs being welcoming , so common in sailing harbors. I love that you sail properly, just doing it right, hard to define but if you see it you know. Cheers Warren
Well said - travel videos. So much different than the typical vlog. Yes, a book would be wonderful. Your posts on Patreon are so evocative. I love your humility at the end - too funny!
Hello from the Northwest of Washington, USA. We enjoyed this Video very much! We are waiting for your book of your travels! I want to encourage you to use a journal as you travel for all of your special times you want to be in that book. I have found that my memory is failing and wish that I had kept one for so many wonderful times in my past! They are gone now but once in a while a small thought comes back and I smile and think what else was there?
I am sure the ship that your Mum and Dad were on is still sailing. She came to Newcastle on Tyne for the TALL SHIPS RACE . I played my bagpipes at the bridge hotel one night. A very great week that was.
Another enjoyable episode.👍👍 It's the middle of October as I watch this and I smiled as I watched Aladino don his foul weather gear in July. I'm sitting here in cutoffs & T shirt with my feet propped up and a space heater set to 70°F because the temperature is below 65"F this morning. Loving your trip north and the warm stories you tell from my warm recliner. 😁 Best Wishes from the Northern Gulf of Mexico 🙋♂️
Kind of cold, rainy-ish and grey sums things up pretty well around here. Weather 85% of the year... Being swede, I have no idea why anyone would want to come here. So it will be interesting to see your take on it. Always good videos!
In 1976 or 7, can't remember now, the guys who bought the Soren Larsen, (Owned the Esther Lohse which was used in the Onedin line and I sailed on off the east coast) Asked if I wanted to hep re-build her, I said yes and was so excited as they said it would lead to international travel etc alas I had personal issues that made it impossible. Great video and what a reminder!
Hello Maya and Aladino, I have been vicariously enjoying your MC 2 boat refit and your cruising in MC but specially your very eloquent and descriptive dialogue Maya.. depth way beyond your years. Having been involved in two boat builds, Aladino, i find your painstaking attention to detail gladdens my heart… I currently own a 46’ centre cockpit aussie designed f’glass performance cruising yacht.. a Oceanic Savage 46…which i am refitting to sail solo from Brisbane to Tasmania… Fair Winds, Ian Mackenzie
We can honestly say this is one of your best episodes ever considering all the aspects: venues, photography, story elements and the narrative itself. Just wonderful; makes us long for travel.
Have watched your videos for a long time (hoping to learn to sail next year), I must say the cinematography of you videos over the last few months have gone next level, very professional. Best thing about your videos, it’s never pretentious like some other sailing channels.
It's wonderful to follow your trip to Scandinavia! I'm from Sweden and are sailing most of my time in the Stockholm Archipelago. But in this episode I got reminded of a Scout Camp I attended on Venø in 1992, that I had almost forgotten about! I also think I might have been sailing a day trip on Søren Larsen, in Wellington, New Zealand, in about 1989 or 1990!
Maya you are such a beautiful storyteller on your videos, your future book will be great 👍. Thanks to both of you for sharing your amazing sailing life 💕💕⛵️⛵️⛵️
Thanks for sharing that!!! I am growing up not so far from Venø. Outside for the town Struer !! Now I live on the island Amager close to Copenhagen!! I often take my bicycle and drive to the little ship to Venø !!! I also call Venø my rescueisland !!! Have takes fotos of the little church!!! Last I have been there maybe for 4-5 years ago, was with a little bus !!!....... Thanks a lot !!! ...Regards from Amager; Danmark
Great video folks. Abdolutely captivating music choice. I sailed to Denmark on a grey ship. February is no time to be there. 2 foot of snow on the dock, ice breaker to get us out of the harbour. Ice in the anchor well.
You should have cracked open the violin case Maya, they would have loved it. I had that experience once when we happened upon an open mic afternoon at a remote country pub. It was so much fun drinking beer and playing music.
Looking forward to your book Maya! As a nerdy point of grammar, I'm not sure about the use of "arriving to" followed by a noun. But you know, there are more important issues in the world. :)
Maya, to be fair, you did film Aladino eating his pizza in slow motion. A fitting revenge. 😅 The Danish knees-up, looked like it was a bit of a hit. People just very comfortable with each other. Nice. But you are right about a difference before the internet, people where openly more trusting I would say as they had no idea about who you where. The internet seems to have changed all of that, and now I think people have much more preconceived ideas about strangers when they first meet; straight away they have a common shared reality of online experiences, even if you are not in the same circles. Without the internet to bond over you can only rely on being the best person you can, and perhaps in hindsight that will be a good thing, like physically smiling and the way that produces real tangible health benefits. *Oh, I forgot the bread for breakfast, I love the way the universe works like that.
It was in the middle of the summer holiday, therefore it is was quiet. It is the same here in Norway, for about four weeks in July and early August every non-essential worker goes on holiday at the same time and everybody goes travelling or out to the countryside to enjoy some time away from the hustle and bustle of the city and therefore cities are very empty during that time.
Thankyou Maya & Aladino. You made my day! I've had an horrendous week. On Saturday I aim to have a people free day and just relax enjoy my horse and have solitude enjoying my own company & my favourite youtubers you. I only have a few. One is an English lady who does mudlarking, an English couple in France renovating a lovely couple on a narrowboat and David! from cruising the cut! ofcourse. Its Saturday in Australia and I wake up and make a cup of tea. Its my great escape to enjoy and go along with others adventures. You made me laugh till I cried you were both too funny today. So needed. You truly lifted the spirits of a very sad Soul. Thankyou Yes so wonderful to see you travelling again. Much love & gratitude. Jane from Hills of Adelaide South Australia. XO XO
Don´t eat frozen shrimp in a fishing village? The Danes favorite, is fresh caught "Fjordrejer" which are fished from april-october. They are overprized, relatively small, a pain to peel but the best shrimps on the planet. Served on fresh toasted white-bread, on a bed of lettuce, mayonnaise, a tee-spoon of fake or real caviar on top, and a slice of lemon - Heaven
14:53 - okay, I did get a chuckle out of this slo-mo segment... but it also made feel like I could actually taste the pizza for myself. I think you can chalk that up to 'KUDOS' for some great film-making. Well done. When you're stuck in a marina, you're making a "Dockumentary"...
My wife and I are from Miami, and we traveled to Stockholm a few years back, and found it was easier to speak English in Stockholm, than in Miami. But, that is the magic of south Florida
Little tip to Mia, start taking notes if you are hot doing it yet, it will help you in your future book.. I did travel a lot and in one point you can't remember anymore names, dates, etc
Nice to see you in Denmark. Kind of unlucky that the weather was not so good for you. We in fact have had a good summer with the most sun ever😅 Enjoy your journey and hope to see you in Denmark again😊
I'm amazed by this observation but since you were raised in the north I guess it makes sense. No red nose no matter how cold an windy it became. Really nice edit job as always . Love your channel
What a lovely episode …. vibrantly alive and totally engaging. Working in NZ a few years ago I had the privilege of meeting Larry and Lyn Pardey - two very special people. Larry, sadly, is no longer with us, but Lyn continues to inspire sailors across the globe. ❤
Glad I stayed to the end to see your expressions of distaste at the shrimp being processed for the meal...lol.. You have a good nature to be able to find humor in your own actions and reactiond.. Do I hear a fun song about the distasteful shrimp?
Thank you for allowing us to follow your summer of Scandanavian. journeys and joining your parents past landfall in the lovely country of Denmark. I remember being in Frederikshavn for a historic boat festival with tall ships in midsummer 2007, as our fishing boat was being re-engined at the Man Diesel workshop at the harbour. As always take care.
Glad see you guys back on the water. I started wondering if you ever get there. You both put so much work into your boats. Now getting to enjoy this adventure. Well deserved break. And you give update on the boat rebuild. Will it also be back in the water soon ?
Relatively new to your channel. Previously I've only dipped in and out of your restoration, re-fit, refurbishment, rebuild videos that are interspersed with wonderful musical interludes. This video has brought a different dimension to my experience. Wonderful music, videography and the positivity and warmth just pops out. My sister lives in Denmark and I have visited a few times and this is so nostalgic for me. Love the Danes, love Denmark, love you guys! Onwards, stay safe.
Gday from Australia... Thank you for your video's, I love them, also thank you for introducing me to violin music, I must admit I had never considered listening to it until I heard you playing on here... Just for your interest, the Soren Larson is currently flagged in Sydney, Australia and has sailed through my home town of Eden, NSW many times, her last visit was in 2019, I think... Have fun, stay safe & keep up the great video's... Hugs to you both from Australia... 😎👍🥃
Hi you young people. You are now sailing, in the words of my Danish friend Ole "At the centre of the Universe!" I sailed to the Limfjord from my home in Harwich twice, once in 1985, and again in 1990. My old friend lives in Struer, which is not far from where you are now. It is indeed a magical place, and for myself I have to say that it change me in some ways. I am enjoying your voyage very much! Thank you for making it and bring back many fond memories for an oldie like me ! Richard.
In these times of so much apparent discourse and "negative waves ', so refreshing to see you lovely people out there exploring this beautiful planet. Cheers to you and wishing you fair winds and following seas!
Lovely to see how you enjoy our little spot on earth ;-) You seem to fit in the mentally around here. What's not to like ? -apart from the cold of course. Our home harbor is Hals in the eastern end of the Limfjord. Love to see your journey through the fjord. Good winds...
Your comments about travel and technology made me think, I travelled around the world 19 years ago (by planes, trains, buses, taxis and ferries) I took no phone, memorised maps and paid by the minute to send emails. These days I never leave home without my phone, is it better now? It’s more convenient and I think safer and At times more spontaneous, but I have to keep that magic little box called a phone charged all the time. We travel in own time with whatever we have at our disposal to make it easier and more fun, but I do sometimes wish I had the yacht and bravery to do what you two do.
I am so very happy to know that you can consciously leave your camera behind and just experience LIFE off screen. I have a lot of respect for you two! Your work is always thoughtful, artistic and a pleasure to watch.
"Sail south 'till the butter melts!" I had to pick myself up off the floor from laughing so hard! What a classic Aladino line. From a fellow Squishite that follows all your adventures.
While you were visiting Denmark I had a friend from Switzerland come for a visit and we drove across the big bridge in the video across Mors and further on to a small town on the Danish west coast to enjoy an evening ice cream in the rainy wind... ahh... summers in Denmark :D Thanks for taking us along on your trip, I am very much enjoying seeing my home country through your eyes.
Great posts on your summer vacations!!! We are happy to hear you are thinking of writing a book. I had just mentioned to Phil that you should write a book!! ❤
Hey Maya and Aladino, I am a headsail trimmer on a race boat when i am not sailing on my boat. I noticed you don’t use a kicker when poling out the headsail, the combo of kicker and topping lift controls/ stabilises the leech of the headsail making it more efficient… Also on a reach, a tweaker on the headsail sheet to optimise the sheeting angle and control the leech, again making it more efficient.
On the subject of a book, I think you are the perfect person to do so, Maya. I love how you've found your voice over these last years and I think a book would be the perfect venue for you to plumb the depths of your journey via your lovely storytelling.
Thank you Maya and Aladino for sharing your adventures. Aladino, I envy you for the many skills you have and also for having a beautiful partner who s Shares your love for sailing and has such a wonderful talent musically. Maya, You speak so well when recalling each daily event, it’s a pleasure to listen to you. I look forward to seeing you again in the future. Bill in Nova Scotia. ❤️
I really love this chapter of SMC. I think RUclips is saturated with tropical sailing. This area of the world is largely overlooked and I'm learning so much about it! Keep up the awesomeness! :)
In case you have heard of the Law of Jante: Axel Sandemose modelled Jante after his native town Nyköbing Mors in his book "A Fugitive Crosses His Tracks".
I only regret not knowing you guys would pass by, would have loved to meet you. Nice footage of Glyngøre ( The town right after the bridge on your starboard and my hometown ) . Looking forward to next week already, keep up the great work, and thank you making amazing content.
You are a good story teller, I would love to read your books when they are ready for sell. I just came across your channel and glad I did as your video was very warm and informative.
You two are the perfect example of nice, kind people attracting kind, nice responses. Maya, you look so happy, you positively glow in this video. Sail on!
So well said

I have been digging the "Front 242" sunglasses I see you two wearing from time to time, LOL. Safe sailing you two!
Many facets of traveling off the beaten path out of season and flow of tourists. Your writing surely will carry.

I was mate/sailing master on Soren Larsen in the mid 1980s before she went off around the world. A great ship.
Nice to see you in Denmark. Kind of unlucky that the weather was not so good for you. We in fact have had a good summer with the most sun ever😅
Enjoy your journey and hope to see you in Denmark again😊
We went out on the Saren Larsen (sorry about the spelling) in Hobart, Australia at the wooden boat festival before covid. A buitiful ship
Do I hear a fun song about the distasteful shrimp?
what can I say, welcome to denmark, it is a wonderful country to sail in, the the small iland south of funen, it can somthing
Your trip is bringing back wonderful memories of my time in Denmark as a young adult ☺️💕
South African Kirsten Neuschafer in her Cape George 36 cutter, considered by many to be one of the fastest boats in the fleet.
Glad see you guys back on the water. I started wondering if you ever get there.
You both put so much work into your boats. Now getting to enjoy this adventure. Well deserved break.
And you give update on the boat rebuild. Will it also be back in the water soon ?
Love the process of you working on your boat, It is amazing to see you sailing again!
Lovely to see how you enjoy our little spot on earth ;-)
You seem to fit in the mentally around here. What's not to like ? -apart from the cold of course.
Our home harbor is Hals in the eastern end of the Limfjord.
Love to see your journey through the fjord.
Good winds...
So Good ! Thank you both for sharing your lives with us…
Your comments about travel and technology made me think, I travelled around the world 19 years ago (by planes, trains, buses, taxis and ferries) I took no phone, memorised maps and paid by the minute to send emails.
- 🇨🇦 beautiful shots of your beautiful boat sailing ⛵
I am so very happy to know that you can consciously leave your camera behind and just experience LIFE off screen. I have a lot of respect for you two! Your work is always thoughtful, artistic and a pleasure to watch.
It's lovely to lose myself in your words and adventures. Thank you both x
"Sail south 'till the butter melts!" I had to pick myself up off the floor from laughing so hard! What a classic Aladino line.
From a fellow Squishite that follows all your adventures.
Cool seeing the Danish coast! Great story telling and footage as always!
While you were visiting Denmark I had a friend from Switzerland come for a visit and we drove across the big bridge in the video across Mors and further on to a small town on the Danish west coast to enjoy an evening ice cream in the rainy wind... ahh... summers in Denmark :D
Thanks for taking us along on your trip, I am very much enjoying seeing my home country through your eyes.
Great posts on your summer vacations!!! We are happy to hear you are thinking of writing a book. I had just mentioned to Phil that you should write a book!! ❤
Hey Maya and Aladino,
I am a headsail trimmer on a race boat when i am not sailing on my boat. I noticed you don’t use a kicker when poling out the headsail, the combo of kicker and topping lift controls/ stabilises the leech of the headsail making it more efficient…
Also on a reach, a tweaker on the headsail sheet to optimise the sheeting angle and control the leech, again making it more efficient.
Look out...your joy is showing!!!
Thank you for another great update. Your beautifully finished boat contrasted so dramatically with the gray skies. The bright deck is a great choice.
On the subject of a book, I think you are the perfect person to do so, Maya. I love how you've found your voice over these last years and I think a book would be the perfect venue for you to plumb the depths of your journey via your lovely storytelling.
Thank you Maya and Aladino for sharing your adventures. Aladino, I envy you for the many skills you have and also for having a beautiful partner who s
Shares your love for sailing and has such a wonderful talent musically. Maya, You speak so well when recalling each daily event, it’s a pleasure to listen to you. I look forward to seeing you again in the future. Bill in Nova Scotia. ❤️
I really enjoyed this episode! Thank you from 🇨🇦.
Lovely story, beautifully told and superbly presented.
You could start to plan the book now too.
Great episode! And I laughed so hard at the shrimp face.
