- Pussycat was a Dutch pop group from Brunssum in Limburg led by the three Kowalczyk sisters: Toni, Betty and Marianne. Other members of the band were Lou Willé (Toni's then-husband), Theo Wetzels, Theo Coumans, and John Theunissen. The band had four international hits in a row in the mid-seventies: Mississippi (1975), Georgia (1976), Smile (1976) and My broken souvenirs (1977) and then a series of hit singles in the Netherlands and Belgium. Mississippi was number 1 the Netherlands and in another 15 countries. 'Mississippi' achieved 22 gold records. It is estimated that "Mississippi" sold over five million copies worldwide. Most of Pussycat's songs were written by Werner Theunissen.

This is one of my mom's favorite songs, she got cancer and stroke in 2023, this song has accompanied her on her sick days. Now she left us for heaven. Its been 7 days since she's gone.

I met Toni, in 1971, before Pussycat was formed, she was a very talented singer even then. We even danced after her gig, was finished, We said our goodbyes, on our coach, when I got to my home town, with my mates, think she carried on to Manchester. To her hotel. good memories.💔💔💔

Such a beatiful song and beauiful voices 🥰🥰certainly the most beautiful song about Mississippi ever made 🥰🥰 Before I discovered the Pussycat band I believed this beautiful song was from USA, from some American country singers or so 👍and I imagined they were sitting on the river Mississippi under the blue sky and singing with their banjo guitars. 🤗 Finally it is European singers in a garage or something. 😂 But never mind it is absolutly fabulous !!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Stumbled on this as a recommendation and the hairs on the back of my neck are standing up. In an instant I’m taken back to the Spring of 1976 when I was just 12 years old living with my Dad in Brunssum, Netherlands which is where the band originated from. Happy memories that bring tears to my eyes as I listen to the familiar melody. Where did my youth go?
I was 11 and cant remember when/where heard this first but loved it soon as heard it.....takes me back, sometime wish was back there .....
Time goes very quickly sadly but at least no one can take away our memories

We are the same age, I was also 12 in 1976. I´m in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Pussycat exploded with Mississipi and another song that deeply impacted me for life: If You Ever Come to Amsterdam. I was so touched for this song, its harmony, melody and lyrics that going to Amsterdam became a dream that I had to make it come true someday. And this day happened in June 2016 when I went to Utrecht for work reasons and I stayed in Amsterdam. Man, you have no idea of what it meant for me, a 51-year old man at that time that had dreamt of being there for 39 years!! Only two days and I went to all possible places. The city was more, much more than I had read, watched and heard about all my life. It seems you are in another planet or universe. When it was time to leave I found myself listening to this song the whole day and crying like a baby for hours. Thanks to Pussycat and their song I have been able to know the most incredible and wonderful city in the world!!

This is not a pop sensation - it is a phenomenon.
Many deep memories of domestic upheaval when this came out. As a screwed over sailor being away from my kids for months on end, this was the song that was being played almost constantly, and it saw me through it all the darkness that enveloped my life. I still feel an almost real feeling of close familiarity with their song. Thanks for the memory. I am alive.
