Balluta Bay is a bay on the northeast coast of Malta within St. Julian's. It is a popular recreation spot used for swimming, diving, and water sports, with a triangular pjazza surrounded by cafés and shaded by Judas trees.
Balluta Bay sits in one of the most touristic hotspots in the Maltese islands. This beach in Malta stretches from Qui-si-Sana in Sliema all the way to St. Julian's. This piece of coastline attracts sunbathers and those who simply want to enjoy a quick swim.
Access to this beach is easy as it had steps and handrails installed. Sea here is deep, clear and easily accessible. You will be swimming with a backdrop of hotels which is good if you don’t want to be completely cut off and have all kind of facilities within walking distance. The area is home to some of the best beaches in the area, like Tigne, Għar id-Dud, Fond l-Għadir and the area known as Exiles.
Balluta Bay lies on a long stretch of rocky coastline that goes from from Qui-si-Sana in Sliema all the way to St. Julian's. This coastline is thronged with sunbathers during the peak summer months.
Steps and handrails placed every so often allow easy access to the water. There are plenty of flat rocks to spread a towel on. The sea here is deep, and generally clean, clear and safe to swim. It is also excellent for snorkelling. Some hotels along the front, especially at the St. Julian's end, provide beach concessions equipped with pools, water sports and lido areas for nightlife. The favourite beach areas are: the Tigne area, Qui si-Sana, Għar id-Dud, the Exiles and Fond Għadir. Some are well-known lidos or beach clubs with public access. In peak summer the Sliema beaches become a very sociable, lively place to be by mid-afternoon. The promenade is excellent for long, striding walks in winter, slow strolls on summer evenings and for watching the spectacular waves during freak autumn storms. You will find plenty of snack bars and restaurants on the coast road and kiosks near the shoreline.

Been many times and stayed at that same hotel, Marriott hotel & Spa. It has everything you could want from a holiday stay.
Love Malta - there's something for everyone isnt' there
Stayed in St Julians a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful place.
It is!
Wonderful place ,
It really is!
Great video thanks for sharing, born and raised in Sliema. The black stuff at Balluta bay is dead sea weed ( locally called (arka?) and the sandy beach area will be cleaned for the summer swimming season.
Wooow what a beautiful place, will love to visit one day
Great isn't it!
We been there few week ago and the place is amazing!
I truly love Ballutta Bay myself. I have family who live in the area north of the Ballutta buildings and I’ve rented flats there when I visit. Ballutta beach in the summer months is crowded everyday and at night, the area is hopping with night life!
abela where are you from
Awesome scenery
Definitely
Fabulous walk can’t believe how clear the water is beautiful! Thanks and keep on walking 👍🚶🏻❤️
Thank you, I will
You should have seem what it was like 50 years ago…much better
Great video thank you, love this area. The Balluta building is a masterpiece. Lived in Mellieha for 3 years so had the chance to visit St Julian's a few times. Lively and friendly place, good walking and awesome scenery. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thank you so much ❤️
Just got back from Malta - Weather not great and the wife an me got Covid - great holiday.
Oh no!
It's seaweed. The beach will be cleaned up before summer so don't worry.
Fab thank you! Thought it was an oil slick when I first saw it!
Its seaweed, it comes in much thicker after a winter storm , it looks like a carpet. I used to live just up the slope next to the church. 1972-1973.
Ah thank you!
Lived in Egmont close throughout the 70s
To be honest that was basically a wasted walk, ok it was along the City coastline but what exactly did you find interesting about it.. The bay itself was very unappealing with not much of a beach and the other side of the road was just Hotels oh yer there was one church.. I wont be visiting there anytime soon. Thank you for your help in giving me a insight of how boring it is.
What an awful place, if this is typical of Malta I won't be going anytime soon. So much traffic, all high rise dense living, and all that noise. Not a place for a relaxing holiday, I don't think Malta is for me.
Crikey 😮🤣
I agree totally it’s terrible now it was alot more tranquil 50 years ago. Now its an asylum
Which is the Best Beach for swimming?
Good question not sure
Around the corner in Exiles
9.25 Back in 1981 that swimming pool was open to the sea and you were swimming with large fish in it 😂
😮😮😮😮
Just visited here for the first time ever going abroad, im in love with st. julians
Lovely place
Went to a wedding in the Church a few years ago
Nice! It's lovely isn't it!
What is the weather like in March / April ? WOuld you recommend bringing a coat ? :)
That black stuff is seaweed. Nothing from the drainage in Malta is discharged into the sea until it has been throught the sewerage palnts on the island. It is the only island in the Med that can claim this as fact.
Beautiful! Balluta Bay is magnificent with its different shades of blue.
So true
Thanks for sharing ..I could see hotel I stayed in few years ago in the distance' The Cavalieri Art ' St Julien's Bay ..Nice hotel...Did you take a walk into Paceville ?
