    Since it is winter time here in the Midwest and we have had a number of very cold days, we are running a range test in our 2023 Mini Cooper SE. For our range test we are in temperatures below freezing (32℉), running winter tires (Vredestein's), and doing a highway loop! Let us know what you think the Mini can do in these winter temperatures in terms of full highway range (EPA Rating of 114 Miles). It might surprise you at the end of the video!

    GREAT Video guys. LOVE range tests on EV's- my Mini SE is on order as a place holder til 2024 when the new version with duial battery comes out.

    This is similar to what I've been getting in central Indiana. I've been at about 95-96 miles when I'm at 100% and around 30-35 degrees. If it goes below that, then it goes down to about 81/82 miles.

    How do guys like the mini's bodywork? I'm the quality specialist responsible for the outer surface of the car at BMW's pressing plant, would be great to have some feedback.

    New to your channel and enjoy the content. Being from the Medina area I am eyeing a 2019 or 2020 Bolt EV Premier. Hopefully NE Ohio gets better charging infrastructure. Now that NACS is becoming the standard in the coming years it should be fine.

    For me at -2F in Sweden is really bad, at 100% i get around 62 miles of range and that without heater on Green+... It also takes twice the time to charge.
    If I knew about this sooner I wouldn't have bought it.

      You need to preheat the car while plugged in before you depart otherwise voltage drops quite quickly and that effects the capacity ie low temperature = slow chemical reaction. And below 35% battery voltage drops non-linearly at that low temperature. In order to keep the battery temperature high I would suggest that you keep your speed as high as possible and DC charge from 35-40% to 95%. Once the battery gets cold it charges and discharges quite slowly.

    I’ve been shocked this winter with my ranger on my 2018 Nissan Leaf. Normally I ranger around 150miles from spring to autumn, and 130ish in the winter. This winter even though it’s been colder; I’m still averaging around my normal 150miles.

      Heat pump?

      ​@@savedfaves Yes, it will have a heat pump. Our 2012 Leaf does not have a heat pump and loses about 25-30% range when the heating is on.

    Not bad! My thing is; when I go to drive home from work, the battery is ice cold and I have to preheat for 20 minutes to defrost. That kills the range. How does the Mini perform when the battery is low? My M3 feels “neutered”.

      I will let Tyler answer this question since I have driven our vehicle once since I barely fit in it lol but from being a passenger, low battery didn't seem to impact anything. - Brandan

    This video is like 9 months old, but your video feed showed up today and I'm wondering if that because your the right guy to look into the newer alternatives to
    Level 2 charging obstacles, like for people who live in apartments and the complex does not have a EV charging station on the premises or extremely close by
    but millions of people who feel shut out of the electric car market, can still charge there car with this portable level 2 charging unit, but I need your help to figure it out:

      All you need is a outlet to charge at 12-amps at work and home. That'll buy you about 100 miles per day or double the average commute.

    This thing has 189km range? How brutal is the range lost in a winter storm? Does anyone know? 50% lost?

      We are only seeing a 20-25% loss in range under 35 degrees (F), so honestly not that bad. Averaging about 80-90 miles in the winter. Summertime I’m averaging 120-130. - Tyler

      Yeah, at minimum I would go 72 mph (which is 70 irl) in this car. Range be dammed, not going to craw my way through the highway. It’s a great city car, don’t make it do what it wasn’t intended to do as a short range EV
