@@RUclipsRanch I am so sorry I meant to ping the youtuber. that said 33312 Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, NV, USA is at compacity right now so until more satellites even with a active starlink dish you would not be able to use it.
What a nice person for going to all the trouble of explaining this valuable service to all of us. Thanks Tom for bringing this up on your channel. Wealth of info….awesome 👍🙌
This is all total nonsense because Starlink is not available anywhere! For a while troubled loners in remote locations in the middle of nowhere, like this guy, were able to get them but now they are said to be on hold with wait times extended out to 2022 or 2023.
Your new friend, Joshua, is so amazing and fabulous to share their experience. Because of you, Tom, your friendly personality is ALWAYS welcomed by others. You are a magnet to attract good people in the Fulltime RV Living! Thank you. Great Information, even for people (like us) who don't require this setup.
Not RVing yet but have family in rural America that have had problems with getting any kind of internet service. Ordered and installed Starlink for them in about 2 weeks time! They are now happy campers, so to speak. Thanks for sharing these tips!
This is going to really revolutionize RV and Work travel. It’s development is not different than when TV Satellite carriers were figuring out how to provide Satellite TV to RV’ers. I would think that Starlink would use the same concept or at least something very similar. Thanks for sharing this info.
The biggest problem for them (starlink) to overcome is that all their satellites are in near earth orbit, so they're moving about 18,000 MPH! The regular satellite providers are in geosynchronous orbit, at 24,000 miles or high earth orbit. It's latency where starlink will win eventually. It's the handoff from one fast moving satellite to the next that would seem to be the only problem I see that starlink will have to work out.
We’ve been way high up at 8,900 feet boondocking all summer in Colorado and were thrilled when our beta Dishy arrived right before the start of our stay. There is NO cell up here and even the atrocious landline DSL trunks are already full, but Starlink has made all the difference. We routinely get near 300 Mbps with almost no downtime, even in the wicked storms and winds that pass through here. It does drop FaceTime and WiFi assisted calls frequently, but I hear that will be improving as they start getting the second gen satellites up that can communicate with their neighbors via lasers (how cool is that??). We’d heard about moving the service address, but were a bit nervous it might lock us out or stop working, so it’s wonderful to hear that if the service area is open, that’s it’s just that easy and seamless. Thanks so much for the “field update”!
Amazing... I can't wait to go full-time RVing from place to place with this new Starlink setup. TY TY TY TY TY 👍👍👍 Thankyou so much "Joshua" for sharing this with the RV community. 💗
This was fantastic information! We’d had ours on order for the last three months and received an email today saying delivery dates are now end of 2022 for our sticks and bricks address in SoCal. Created a new account used service address in MN and shipping address to our home - job done! Shipping in three weeks!!!! We can’t thank you guys enough for this.
Thanks for describing the way to (mostly) make this work for RVers. Some of us have been watching this for the last couple of years...seeing it as the enabler for much, much more than what EcoStar offers for things. The Internet. Remote work for me. TV for all of us. It's going to be amazing...
For cell phones, you can reset your networks. Go to setting, go to device, it says backup and restore, and then reset networks. It has helped me a lot while camping.
I’m in Southwest Ohio. I signed up for Starlink last November. I received an Email in February saying it was now available in my area. I tried to order it and was told to pay $100 and wait. I paid my $100 and am still waiting!😢
Thank you so much for this info!! We've been researching the best internet option and because of this video just ordered our Starlink dish. Because our home address is rural already, we got the notice that it will ship right away. SO EXCITED FOR THIS!! And so grateful to you all for sharing this info.
We've got Century "Missing" Link. Our max download speed is 12 Mbps but most days it's 1.70 Mbps. Upload speed is a racing 0.80 Mbps. I am so looking forward to Starlink!!
We ordered this before the video ended, back then! LOL! We have returned to the video and Josh’s advice and instructions…ITS AWESOME!!! FYI we are in WY and MT for the rest of the month. Then CO next month…THANK YOU for FILMING THIS!!! WE LOVE IT!
Don't say "mips"... It's megabits (per second) ... I'm jealous of the scenery! Does Starlink care about the number of times you're updating the address? (TOS fine print, etc)
@@twheeler7747 Sorry, but I was on the waitlist since last year, paid my ninety-nine dollars. I follow Enjoy The Journey.Life and said I will try this and it worked. So I asked for my refund and have received it. Now I am waiting for my delivery of equipment. Hope this helpp\s you to decide
@@twheeler7747 i can check any service address if you want since i have starlink right now, that way you know if this trick in the video will help you.
So to clarify ... you can change the service address once you receive your unit and sync it at another location ? going to place and order and i see this PLEASE NOTE: Your service address cannot be changed after placing your order. This order is only applicable to the service address above.
It is l Iike satelite TV you change your zip code for tv dishes and tune the dish to the satelite. This will work a little different but putting in your location in a smaller foot print of the signal coming off the satelite. This will revolutionize the internet for those people traveling fulltime.only one service instead of multiple services for coverage.
As a full time boondocker I've been chomping at the bit to get Starlink. Excellent concise info. I was able to drag and drop my location near Brian Head UT and lo and behold I was able to order......wahoo!!!!! $579.94 You say in the video 2-3 weeks for it to arrive. Has that changed? Let's see this video has been out 10 days, hope there hasn't been a run on Starlink......:) Good bye cellular, no more hunting for cell signals. This will open up my boondocking world exponentially.
First comment ever. Great video! For RVEr’s this will be a must have if not now in the very near future when it’s 100% operational. Like he said maybe a good time now to lock in the current price. Appreciate your videos and insights.
I currently have Nomad Internet. PSA: They no longer carry ATT. I use it at home and ever since we where changed to Verizon it has been more expensive and less reliable where I live. We are looking at star link and I like that I may be able to do a setup on my RV as well and take it with me from home, I will have to setup a mount that is removable and easy disconnect cables. Thanks for the info. My Power company is also trying to get fiber run to all their customers but only started construction this year, it will be some time before it get to my house and I cannot take it with me.
That's crazy they do still carry att. I have nomad and I ordered the Verizon plan but after I paid all that money it got pretty slow. I reached out to a lady named Robyn ,she is on face book in a nomad group she let me return it and get att. im getting 4mb that is the highest I get. im so aggravated. Anyways that switch happened very recently within this last month
Hi Folks, Love your videos and this one sparked my interest. Put it on my watch list for later. So busy now making my own videos and getting ready for saltwater fishing in August. We just tried out our Tailgater TV Satellite on our Oregon Coast trip and works great. Since we are part timers we have the Pay as You Go. The RV park Wifi Sucks as y'all know so did some research and talked to fellow RV'ers on our trip for what works well for setting up our own internet signal straight to the local cell towers. We picked up a Winegard Connect 2.0 at Camping world in Oregon since they have no sales tax and we live in Washington state$$. The Winegard unit has a sim card slot for different cell providers but for now just going with the Winegard card that's in it and try their Pay as You Go plan to get 4g using our cellphones through the Winegard but it also has the wifi extender to just use the RV parks wifi too. If it's good enough? So the option of both is a plus👍 I have a video that I will be posting in another week. Just finished editing. Tim
Also, be aware that this hardware is temperature sensitive. If it reaches above 120 degrees internal, it will shut down, and you'll have to wait until it cools for it to try to reconnect. As noted in the video, these are also limited by the number of folks trying to connect at any given time. When and if there are a LOT of subscribers, get ready to kiss your connectivity goodbye. The satellites are capacity limited.
While I understand the difficulties in full time RVing and internet, I would ask you to consider those already on the waitlists. I’m a fixed address, and I only have cell phone service for internet. I’ve been on the waitlist for starlink since February and don’t know when it will be available. It would be disheartening if I waited 6 months + because people were lying to get the service early. I love the ingenuity, and it’s Starlink who didn’t protect against this, and I don’t blame anyone for doing it. But please realize that there are a lot of people on the waitlist. It’s kind of like standing in line at Best Buy on Black Friday to get a TV only to have someone cut in line and take the last one before you had a chance.
That really isn't whats happening here. Your on a wait list presumably because like me you are not in a supported area yet. This trick will not work for people that are middle to south in the US.
Well, I guess this is a good lesson to learn then - don't sign up to be on a wait list and then be bothered when you learn that you could have selected a rural address hundreds of miles away and drove out to the location rather than put money down and wait for an undecided date. Simple solution - try to get your money back, do what they stated in the video and aquire that sweet internet nectar - or just don't worry about what others are doing and patiently wait like you paid and signed up for :) It will be ok, I somewhat promise
I've tried to use mine about 80Km(50 Miles) away from my service address. It wouldn't work and I'd received the "too far from service address" error in the iphone app. I'd tried sliding the address over to the new location in on the webpage and then received the 'area is already full' message. I'd almost tried moving the pin around a little to try that, figured it'd work but didn't want to lose my home address. Contacted Starlink customer service and they've told me I should have no problem moving it back and forth between the house and RV park next year.
Great video on the ins and out of getting starling sooner than later and wow what a details account this gentleman gave. I'm so happy you ran into him.
That is such an awesome system! I cannot believe how much internet they have! Thank you so much for sharing this video such great information! I cannot wait to see more about the solar!!!
I've had starlink for a while now. Tried to take it camping on the 4th and was told I wasn't at my registered service address. Wish I knew I could change my address
Great information, Tom. I'll be interested in seeing if with their mobile offering if they offer dishes you can leave mounted on the roof that are wind-protected and if you don't have to constantly change your address.
He seems like a really nice guy to stop and give all that information I think it's too soon yet and it's quite complicated to get connected when you get to a camp I don't know about this one I think they have a lot of growing to do yet
Great info. But unfortunately nomad is no good! We originally started with nomad added their SIM card to our router and worked great! Then the stopped offering SIM and you are forced to use their new equipment that doesent work and what’s worse is that nomad has no phone tech support anymore it’s all done through email! Out of the entire weekend we only had a few hours of internet! Buyer beware
This is a great video. I have the Beta for my Lake Cabin and would love to take with me when on the road. One thing I didn’t hear addressed, it is VERY sensitive to obstructions so if you enjoy camping in the forest, it will be problematic but the included cable is very long.
I see star link becoming the way to go in the future, as suggested it is not really easy right now. Another aspect of this is cellular connection price should come down in price also.
The way he describes it: yes. Every time you relocate, you update the service address online. Your home is just a location to Starlink. You probably want to wait for the next iteration of the ground station which may be mobile instead of movable.
@@jwaustinmunguy That's exactly what he said. You don't want to move the address every time you relocate on the road, just when you set up camp for a few days, and it won't work everywhere.
First person I have seen that has actually used Starlink. Good video. I know that yacht owners are waiting patiently for the satellites to go laser to laser and be useable while moving. It will be a game changer. eSysman (super yacht capt.)has a new video about Starlink and the technical aspects but no actual user info. It appears it's still not operational for super yachts traveling out of land satellite range. Still waiting for more Satellite to satellite via laser to be launched.
Tom, you and Cheri knocked this one out of the park! Good to see that latency is low, but is this the push, or pull latency? Why not use a VPN to ensure that you can get your service without a change of address? Seems like it would be a better option IMHO, or am I missing something elementary? Safe, and hoppy travels from The Boondocking Brewer™!
Something that is not mentioned is that starlink uses about 100 Watts, or 8.3 amps per hour. Also, doesn't the power converter have to be plugged into 110v to begin with so that means the inverter is also running?
On my rig (600 w of panels, 410 amp hour battery capacity) we would, with the inverter on, use about 3% per hour of our wet cell battery capacity. We typically use internet for 4 hours per evening. That makes this system not ideal but possible ( battery down to something in the 80% range from a full charge). More battery capacity would, of course, make it better.
@@AZFrank4x4 I think your math is correct, at 120v, but the dish is dc. I assumed the power output was 12v, I think now it's 48v, cutting the amps by 75% but, I've also read its 56v. The only thing I know for sure is it's in beta and things will change.
Like most electronics it probably looks has some sort of power brick...anyone know what it's taking the 110 down to for sure... 12v 19v, 48v or 54v. DC ?
Great video thanks for the info. That said I went to Star Link's website and put in my brothers address. Great news they will ship right away. Bad news came below that message which said "PLEASE NOTE: Your service address cannot be changed after placing your order. This order is only applicable to the service address above." So I"m a little gun shy to order. What are your thoughts on this?
@@agamerlikeme8599 Hi and thanks for the reply. I put my address and I can get it there. My issue is I'm full time RV and I'm worried that I will not be able to get service and our next spot.
@@bradpage7802 ya all bets are off the second you move since they can fill up at anytime meaning once you move if you can you may loose your place and cant go back or forward.
I wonder if Tesla will have a package which come with a Cybertruck. I use to have a small XM Sattelite Radio which had a magnetic transponder high I put on.my roof. I use to get good reception even if I was moving 70 mph in remote areas.
When I put in my address it did give me a purchase price and is available for my address, but it also gave this statement, "Your service address cannot be changed after placing your order. This order is only applicable to the service address above." SO.. can I still move the system to new locations?
@Joshua Webb Would you recommend If the address is a fixed address and Star Link states the $99deposit for now to get in on it still and wait? Do you think that price will be more later on?
@Joshua Webb Hey, Joshua! Great info, thanks much. I don't understand why I'm needing to select the most northern address possible and then change it later. It's available at my home right now. Why can't I receive it here and then change the address as we move around in our RV?
Do you think this would work on my Rig? I'm an owner op long haul trucker. I run my business mostly over the road and I would love to be able to stream Netflix and download iTunes movies as well. Right now, I'm using a pepwave surf Soho router with a Verizon mobile cellular router and two cell phones to tether to the router as well. My biggest problem is going over my 100gb limit per both cell phones and the 10gb on the cellular router. So, I need a stronger cell single and more data, plus higher speeds per month. I also use the Speedify app for whatever that's worth. Thank you for any advice you can give me.
Just yesterday starlink launched 50 satellites. Approx. how large, say circumference, is a service area. For example if I had no service in Erie PA, how far away do I need to try again.
Many people do not know about Starlink yet. When they do find out about it and request service for their schooling and work etc. are they going to loose because some rv person games the system?
When I go on and add an address, I get this notice on the next screen. “Your service address cannot be changed after placing your order. This order is only applicable to the service address above.”
@@twheeler7747 i can check any service address if you want since i have starlink right now, that way you know if this trick in the video will help you.
Did my deposit in July for the Lynnville TN USA area and waiting for that shipment to arrive...soon, I hope. Interesting about changing your "service address" if you want to use it on a trip somewhere. Question is if say I change the "service address" for a trip and later when I return, it seems there may be a chance my home "service address" spot I vacated may have been taken by another customer who was on a wait list and find my area "full". Possible?
So those Starlink dishes auto-align with the satellite? I had satellite tv on my semi for a while years ago and am familiar with setting it up, though I know the Starlink sats are lower (where ya get the cable-style latency) and therefore "latitude-specific." I'm on the list and have paid my $100 deposit for my current address - still waiting for that email. I 'was' planning to use it once I go nomad, but it sounds like there are limited connections for each latitude, so maybe not - especially if I'm going to be boondocking where 1000s of other people are (in Jan/Feb every year). Or, I do without prior to heading to the rally point by changing my location (obtaining a spot or port assignment on the network) some amount of time in advance. Maybe as the system gets further implemented it will allow for more connections, but that might be when they start charging for overages and/or throttling when there's too many people - same problem I have with current DSL. When the bank two doors down from me does their end of month (or Q, Y) it goes from 6-7mbps (I'm being charged for 8) down to less than 1mbps. "Direct Subscriber" my a$$!! lol It will be interesting to watch videos like this as time goes by!!! Thanks for doing this one!! EDIT: ...I'm wondering if the 270 down you got implies there are still 1 or 2 ports available...?? (Since they're advertising 100) hhmmmmmmm.... Thanks, again!!!
I found a place in the far north. After I put in the address in starlink, it can ship it now. But it also said: "Your service address cannot be changed after placing your order. This order is only applicable to the service address above." I am not sure if I should continue or not. Anyone have any experience and comment?
Good tip. I found an address that would work, however, on the Starlink website it says "Your service address cannot be changed after placing your order. This order is only applicable to the service address above." Is this true now?
I have Starlink and they told me, " Starlink is assigned to a single area, and Starlink satellites are scheduled to send internet down to your specific single area. If you move your Starlink outside of its assigned area, you will not be scheduled to serve your Starlink and you will not receive internet. The option to temporarily change service addresses sometimes may be available in the future."
So the rural address you put in and works for "ship now" option, do you have to activate your service at that address you chose? Or can I do it from my home hundreds of miles away from said address.
Great info! Do you need to activate at the service addressed first entered or can you change the address to the shipping one (if it’s available for use) and then activate there?
QUESTION: It sounds like you need at least cellular data to transfer your service to a new area, to do it after you arrive? Or can you do it via Starlink internet?

Thanks for posting this. It took me a few hundred tries but I was finally able to find a location that I could order immediately.
Did you have to locate yourself in the service area you selected to then perform the first activation?
@@RonMDavis yes you have to activate in the same cell, but you're able to change your cell afterwards.
This was fantastic information! We’d had ours on order for the last three months and received an email today saying delivery dates are now end of 2022 for our sticks and bricks address in SoCal.

That's crazy they do still carry att. I have nomad and I ordered the Verizon plan but after I paid all that money it got pretty slow.
Starlink is freaking awesome and your right it gets better everyday
Simple solution - try to get your money back, do what they stated in the video and aquire that sweet internet nectar - or just don't worry about what others are doing and patiently wait like you paid and signed up for :)
It will be ok, I somewhat promise
I've tried to use mine about 80Km(50 Miles) away from my service address. It wouldn't work and I'd received the "too far from service address" error in the iphone app. I'd tried sliding the address over to the new location in on the webpage and then received the 'area is already full' message. I'd almost tried moving the pin around a little to try that, figured it'd work but didn't want to lose my home address. Contacted Starlink customer service and they've told me I should have no problem moving it back and forth between the house and RV park next year.
I did this, and got one of the last dishes before the beta program ended. Thank you for sharing.
Great video on the ins and out of getting starling sooner than later and wow what a details account this gentleman gave. I'm so happy you ran into him.

Very informative Tom and thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work. Stay safe, stay well.
Great tip!
...and don't damage that cable. You know, like letting the squirrels chew on it. It is not replaceable. You'll be buying a whole new system.
I see star link becoming the way to go in the future, as suggested it is not really easy right now. Another aspect of this is cellular connection price should come down in price also.
Great video. Question: We aren’t full time RV-ers. So if we got Starlink for our home - could we take it with us when we RV?
The way he describes it: yes. Every time you relocate, you update the service address online. Your home is just a location to Starlink. You probably want to wait for the next iteration of the ground station which may be mobile instead of movable.
@@jwaustinmunguy That's exactly what he said. You don't want to move the address every time you relocate on the road, just when you set up camp for a few days, and it won't work everywhere.
A great interview! Very easy to understand the process
Thank You both for producing these wonderfully informative videos , We are constantly learning so very much . You both are so awesome .

100 watts would be .833 amps per hour
@@AZFrank4x4 I think your math is correct, at 120v, but the dish is dc. I assumed the power output was 12v, I think now it's 48v, cutting the amps by 75% but, I've also read its 56v. The only thing I know for sure is it's in beta and things will change.
@@LilyWasHereMB I stand corrected; you're right I was thinking 120vac/12vdc transformer but if it's dc voltage: 100 watts @ 12vdc = 8.3 amps
Like most electronics it probably looks has some sort of power brick...anyone know what it's taking the 110 down to for sure... 12v 19v, 48v or 54v. DC ?
