Don’t know if Butch is seeing this or not but I thank you Butch for turning me onto thin lizzy. What a great episode! I enjoyed this one even more than usual, except that every time I looked at Stephen Keeler's square, I kept going into an acid flashback...
Many to choose from Jethro Tull - "Stand Up" Meat Puppets - II Placebo - "Without You I`m Nothing" Kyuss - "Blues For the Red Sun" Radiohead - "The Bends" Camel - "Mirage" Van der Graaf Generator - "The Least We Can Do Is Wave To each Other" Overkill - "Taking Over" Eloy - "Inside"
Here are my 3 picks. The obvious ones have been mentioned, Rainbow, Def Leppard etc. I pick these 3. 1. Marilyn Manson - Anti Christ Superstar 2. Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman 3. Yesterday and Today (Later known as Y & T) second album Struck Down
A few more... Weather Report - I Sing The Body Electric (1972). Gary Moore - Corridors of Power (1982). Vicious Rumors - Digital Dictator (1988). Kittie - Oracle (2001). Place of Skulls - With Vision (2003).
Three albums I can think of right off the bat: #3. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath > Paranoid #2. Van Halen - Van Halen > Van Halen II #1. Molly Hatchet - Molly Hatchet > Flirtin' With Disaster
*My top 5:* *1)* The Warning - Queen of the Murder Scene (2019) *2)* Nemophila - Seize the Fate (2022) *3)* The Baby's - Broken Heart (1977) *4)* Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II (1969) *5)* Molly Hatchet - Flirtin' with Disaster (1979) Honourable Mention: *a)* Tubeway Army (Gary Numan) - Replica's (1979) *b)* The Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed (1967) *c)* Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show - Sloppy Seconds (1972) *d)* U.K. - Danger Money (1979)

@@countralfus6408 Yeah I figured that it's one of those situations where it's so obvious that everyone expected others to pick it! Plus it doesn't exactly need more attention than it already gets, whereas a lot of these picks do need more attention.
Danzig-Lucifuge The first album is solid but Lucifuge is the definitive Danzig sound IMO. Snakes of Christ, Her Black Wings and Devils Plaything highlight the record but every song is excellent.
My Dying Bride- Turn Loose the Swans King Diamond- Abagail Candlemass- Nightfall Obituary- Cause of Death In Flames- The Jester Race Prong- Beg To Differ Children of Bodom- Hatebreeder Cannibal Corpse- Butchered at Birth Possessed- Beyond the Gates D.R.I.- Crossover Sacred Reich- The American Way Iced Earth- Night of the Stormrider The Haunted- Made Me Do It Suicidal Tendencies- Join The Army Pestilence- Consuming Impulse Megadeth- Peace Sells

@@iancocks9408 I actually agree with the original poster. I think Slave to the Grind rocks harder and more consistently, even if there are a couple of absolute gems on the debut.
Love The Squares! First off, Happy Birthday to Lynne's Papa. RIP So I'm with Bryce and Lynne on Priest, and definitely with Lynne on Victim! 🤘 On board with Butch on Rising! I still listen to this gem. Last, and this is tough cuz I Love Blizzard, but I'm going with Diary by a red one. Both are still my favorite Ozzy albums! Randy 🎸
Extreme and Aerosmith came first to my mind. Mötley Crüe is my third choice. Stephen Keeler absolutely nailed it. Toxicity is such a great album! I actually really like System of a Down overall.
There are so many, but let's go with: Amon Düül II - Yeti > Phallus Dei Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead > Frost and Fire Iron Maiden - Killers > Iron Maiden My Bloody Valentine - Loveless > Isn't Anything Queen - Queen II > Queen Radiohead - The Bends > Pablo Honey Van Morrison - Astral Weeks > Blowin' Your Mind! The Who - A Quick One > My Generation
1) Steely Dan - Countdown To Ecstasy (1973) 2) Weather Report - I Sing The Body Electric (1972) 3) Cold Chisel - Breakfast At Sweethearts (1979) 4) The Doobie Brothers - Toulouse Street (1972) 5) Eagles - Desperado (1973)
Awesome, will check it out tonight : ) My first thoughs was Alice in Chains : Dirt, Death : Leprosy, Motley Crue : Shout at the Devil and Testament : The New Order.
Great watching and coming in chat and the picks by the panel awesome. Ryan mentioned OZ and I have that album Fire In The Brain on vinyl. The debut is trash and wasn't as good but have not the debut but their next after Fire In The Brain 3rd Warning (III Warning) actual name on record which is a great killer 3rd album from OZ on vinyl. Yea alot of great 2nd albums. Sometimes as one knows a band can have killer debut and great 2nd album follow up too. But anyway great watching and enjoying. Thanks Pete and HVS!🎶
Neil Young (self titeled/ Everbody knows this is nowhere) Frank Zappa (Freak out/ Absolutely free) Van Morrison (Brown eyed girl/ Astral Weeks) David Bowie (self titeled/ Space Oddity) Lou Reed (self titeled/Transformer)
A few others I thought of (since you mentioned you may do a prog show of this I'll skip them): Doobie Brothers Toulouse Street Elton John S/T Blue Öyster Cult Tyranny and Mutation (although I do love the first album) Spooky Tooth Spooky Two Metallica Ride the Lightning
The White Stripes - De Stijl; Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump; Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels; Ozzy - Diary of a Madman; Emmylou Harris - Pieces of the Sky (though I haven't heard her pre-Gram Parsons debut).
The first three that come to mind are… Def Leppard - High n dry Metallica - Ride the lightning Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil Not saying their first albums are bad… but the second album is much better.
Some really good choices on this show and some ones I had totally forgot about. I thought of a bunch that weren’t covered: Metallica-“Ride the Lightning” Alice In Chains- “Dirt” CSNY- “Deja Vu” Nirvana- “Nevermind” Smashing Pumpkins-“Siamese Dream” Pixies- “Doolittle” Alice Cooper-“Easy Action” (I mean anything is better than “Pretties for You”🤣” Black Crowes-“Southern Harmony and Musical Companion” The Doobie Brothers-“Toulouse Street” Extreme-“Pornografitti” Foo Fighters-“Colour and the Shape” Night Ranger-“Midnight Madness” The Police-“Regatta de Blanc” Tool-“Aenima” (Might be cheating there) Awesome show! Cheers guys! 🤟😎🤟
Metallica - Ride the lightning Danzig - Lucifuge Rob Zombie - The sinister Urge Nine inch nails - The downward spiral Megadeth - Peace Sells. Death - Leprosy
Maybe not at a technical level, but I do like that there's more original material. That's actually a really singular album compared to the rest, the short jams are really good
It hasn't been mentioned yet where I am currently in the video, but Pete may mention it......Dream Theater Images and Words. Also obvious is Surfing with the Alien by Joe Satriani. Also had Rush come into mind quickly as well as Pagan's Mind second album, Celestial Entrance
My 3 picks are: Marduk-Those of the unlight(Such an improvement over Dark Endless which was pretty much a death metal album Those of the Unlight felt like Bathory’s The Return on crack) Bathory-The Return (One of the greatest follow ups in black metal history and without this album Swedish black metal would not be what it was or probably black metal as we know it) Dissection-Storm of the lights bane (Totally destroys The Somberlain on all fronts and was a vast improvement in terms of songwriting and production) Honorable mentions: Dark Angel-Darkness Descends (Gene Hoglan made them ten times better and Don Doty’s vocals were evil as all hell sounding along with that production) Satanic Warmaster-Opferblut (Their first album Strength and Honour was good but the songwriting was vastly superior on this album while maintaining the rawness of the debut) Necromantia-Scarlet Evil Witching Black (Far superior to the debut that album doesn’t even have proper song structure but they improved ten fold on that follow up) OZ-Fire in the Brain(Finnish heavy metal which is reminiscent of NWOBHM the first album was decent but they got it right with the second album) Cannibal Corpse-Butchered at Birth (A huge improvement over Eaten back to life the songs were more memorable and the riffs were better)
Motorhead - Overkill
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Saxon - Wheels of Steel
Not HVS material really, but Bob Dylan, Lou Reed and Neil Young all released incredible 2nd albums after "inauspicious" debuts.

I can't believe Ride the Lightning wasn't mentioned! It was the first that came to mind for me.
Same here. These folks swear allegiance to Kill Em All and Fist Full Of Metal. Especially ol Steve, he’s like the eternal patriarch of the group. Good bloke though.
Ride the lightning and Hell awaits are choice's of mine but I figured they would be mentioned so I went with other choices
@@countralfus6408 Yeah I figured that it's one of those situations where it's so obvious that everyone expected others to pick it!
Plus it doesn't exactly need more attention than it already gets, whereas a lot of these picks do need more attention.
@@entelikey1 well, he's not wrong about Fistful of Metal...
Mine too
Danzig-Lucifuge The first album is solid but Lucifuge is the definitive Danzig sound IMO. Snakes of Christ, Her Black Wings and Devils Plaything highlight the record but every song is excellent.
😄👍

See I like Sabbath's first album much better.
I don’t think slave to the grind is as good as skid row. Slave has quite a few weak songs to me.
@@iancocks9408 I actually agree with the original poster. I think Slave to the Grind rocks harder and more consistently, even if there are a couple of absolute gems on the debut.
Hard disagree on Nirvana they got way shittier with Nevermind.
Great call on Stronger Than Death. probably their best album IMO
Public Enemy - I own over seven thousand CDs and vinyl, I have six rap discs total, they are from Public Enemy, they are brilliant!
Led Zeppelin- II, Max Webster -High Class in Borrowed Shoes, Alter Bridge-Blackbird
Led Zeppelin - 2
The Angels - Face to Face
Black Sabbath- Paranoid
Can’t understand why people prefer Van Halen 2 over 1
Love The Squares!
First off, Happy Birthday to Lynne's Papa. RIP
So I'm with Bryce and Lynne on Priest, and definitely with Lynne on Victim! 🤘
On board with Butch on Rising! I still listen to this gem.
Last, and this is tough cuz I Love Blizzard, but I'm going with Diary by a red one. Both are still my favorite Ozzy albums! Randy 🎸
❤
I came into Fear Factory at Obselete and saw them at Ozzfest...magical
I saw them on that tour too.
AC/DC - TNT
Cheap Trick - In Color
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Queen - Queen II
Metallica - Ride The Lightning
I completely concur with In Color. One of their best.
Blind Guardian, Budgie, Cirith Ungol, Loudness, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Nightwish, Ozzy, Prong, Spooky Tooth, The Tea Party, Vicious Rumors. To name a few...
Extreme and Aerosmith came first to my mind. Mötley Crüe is my third choice. Stephen Keeler absolutely nailed it. Toxicity is such a great album! I actually really like System of a Down overall.
There are so many, but let's go with:
Amon Düül II - Yeti > Phallus Dei
Cirith Ungol - King of the Dead > Frost and Fire
Iron Maiden - Killers > Iron Maiden
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless > Isn't Anything
Queen - Queen II > Queen
Radiohead - The Bends > Pablo Honey
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks > Blowin' Your Mind!
The Who - A Quick One > My Generation
1) Steely Dan - Countdown To Ecstasy (1973)
2) Weather Report - I Sing The Body Electric (1972)
3) Cold Chisel - Breakfast At Sweethearts (1979)
4) The Doobie Brothers - Toulouse Street (1972)
5) Eagles - Desperado (1973)
Great call Pete on DT Images and Words.
Awesome, will check it out tonight : ) My first thoughs was Alice in Chains : Dirt, Death : Leprosy, Motley Crue : Shout at the Devil and Testament : The New Order.
1) Crimson Glory - Transcendence
2) King Diamond - Abigail
3) Sanctuary - Into The Mirror Black
Honorable Mention: Overkill - Taking Over
Great watching and coming in chat and the picks by the panel awesome.
Neil Young (self titeled/ Everbody knows this is nowhere)
Frank Zappa (Freak out/ Absolutely free)
Van Morrison (Brown eyed girl/ Astral Weeks)
David Bowie (self titeled/ Space Oddity)
Lou Reed (self titeled/Transformer)
A few others I thought of (since you mentioned you may do a prog show of this I'll skip them):
Doobie Brothers Toulouse Street
Elton John S/T
Blue Öyster Cult Tyranny and Mutation (although I do love the first album)
Spooky Tooth Spooky Two
Metallica Ride the Lightning
Not hard rock or metal but radioheads the bends has to be the biggest step up from a debut album in music history
The tale of two different bands on those two albums.
@@chuckazeee and it came out only 2 years after it. They had to have sold their souls to the devil.
A Fight mention!!! I love Small Deadly Space. I still listen to those songs almost 30 years later!
Agree with every word. U2 fan since I heard New Years Day in High School. I would not see them without Larry
❤ Larry
The White Stripes - De Stijl; Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump; Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels; Ozzy - Diary of a Madman; Emmylou Harris - Pieces of the Sky (though I haven't heard her pre-Gram Parsons debut).
The first three that come to mind are…
Def Leppard - High n dry
Metallica - Ride the lightning
Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
Not saying their first albums are bad… but the second album is much better.
Kill Em All is the masterpiece.
"Out Of The Silent Planet" by King's X is a great debut. Their sophomore album "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska" took things to a different level.
1. Death- Leprosy 2. Dokken- Tooth and Nail 3. Tesla - Great Radio Controversy 🤘
Some really good choices on this show and some ones I had totally forgot about. I thought of a bunch that weren’t covered:
Metallica-“Ride the Lightning”
Alice In Chains- “Dirt”
CSNY- “Deja Vu”
Nirvana- “Nevermind”
Smashing Pumpkins-“Siamese Dream”
Pixies- “Doolittle”
Alice Cooper-“Easy Action” (I mean anything is better than “Pretties for You”🤣”
Black Crowes-“Southern Harmony and Musical Companion”
The Doobie Brothers-“Toulouse Street”
Extreme-“Pornografitti”
Foo Fighters-“Colour and the Shape”
Night Ranger-“Midnight Madness”
The Police-“Regatta de Blanc”
Tool-“Aenima” (Might be cheating there)
Awesome show! Cheers guys! 🤟😎🤟
Camel self titled followed up with Mirage.
What a great show !!!! 😄🤘
Great show. I can't believe Pete didn't mention Tull.
Metallica - Ride the lightning
Danzig - Lucifuge
Rob Zombie - The sinister Urge
Nine inch nails - The downward spiral
Megadeth - Peace Sells.
Death - Leprosy
Styx II, in my opinion, is a huge leap forward from their debut.
Maybe not at a technical level, but I do like that there's more original material. That's actually a really singular album compared to the rest, the short jams are really good
How can you top an album that has a song that stops half way through and plays interviews with garbage workers!
@@63mckenzie ah yes, these kids have too much money lol
It hasn't been mentioned yet where I am currently in the video, but Pete may mention it......Dream Theater Images and Words. Also obvious is Surfing with the Alien by Joe Satriani.
Also had Rush come into mind quickly as well as Pagan's Mind second album, Celestial Entrance
Yes, Images and Words
Most surprising takeaway for me: Ryan is into hip hop! Good for him, Public Enemy rules!
My 3 picks are:
Marduk-Those of the unlight(Such an improvement over Dark Endless which was pretty much a death metal album Those of the Unlight felt like Bathory’s The Return on crack)
Bathory-The Return (One of the greatest follow ups in black metal history and without this album Swedish black metal would not be what it was or probably black metal as we know it)
Dissection-Storm of the lights bane (Totally destroys The Somberlain on all fronts and was a vast improvement in terms of songwriting and production)
Honorable mentions:
Dark Angel-Darkness Descends (Gene Hoglan made them ten times better and Don Doty’s vocals were evil as all hell sounding along with that production)
Satanic Warmaster-Opferblut (Their first album Strength and Honour was good but the songwriting was vastly superior on this album while maintaining the rawness of the debut)
Necromantia-Scarlet Evil Witching Black (Far superior to the debut that album doesn’t even have proper song structure but they improved ten fold on that follow up)
OZ-Fire in the Brain(Finnish heavy metal which is reminiscent of NWOBHM the first album was decent but they got it right with the second album)
Cannibal Corpse-Butchered at Birth (A huge improvement over Eaten back to life the songs were more memorable and the riffs were better)
