Wonderful result! Thank you for your advice about sewing machine! I ended buying singer stylist 7258. I guess that panel color of teal got me:-))
I like it, but can't figure out why I can't use zigzag on satin fabric. It just gathers fabric. Could you please advise, where to look for an answer? I bought needle 70/10, guttermann polyester thread all purpose. Tension is automatic. I tried a tissue paper under satin, still no result.

Hi there!! First of all .. CONGRATULATIONS!! this is very exciting time! I hope you will make some amazing project with it.
The issue you're encountering with your Singer Stylist 7258 sewing machine causing satin fabric to gather while using a zigzag stitch could be due to several factors. Satin is a delicate and slippery fabric, which can make it prone to puckering or gathering if not handled correctly. Here are a few suggestions to help you solve this problem, I know you mentioned doing couple of things but I will include them anyone, hopefully it will help you at some point!
      1. Adjust the Tension Settings
High thread tension can cause puckering on delicate fabrics. Try lowering the upper thread tension on your machine slightly and test on a scrap piece of satin.
Ensure the bobbin thread tension is balanced as well.
      2. Use a Stabilizer
Satin can be challenging to sew because it's slippery and thin. Use a stabilizer underneath or on top of the fabric to provide extra support. Tear-away or wash-away stabilizers are good options.
      3. Switch to a Different Needle!
Use a fine, sharp needle like a Microtex or a size 70/10 needle, which is designed for lightweight fabrics like satin.
Check that the needle is not dull or damaged, as this can snag the fabric.
      4. Select the Right Stitch Length and Width
A zigzag stitch with too short a length can gather the fabric. Increase the stitch length and experiment with the width until you find a setting that works well for your satin.
Test adjustments on scraps of the same fabric.
      5. Reduce the Presser Foot Pressure
Satin is delicate, and too much pressure from the presser foot can cause gathering. Check if your Singer 7258 allows you to adjust the presser foot pressure and reduce it if possible.
      6. Use the Right Presser Foot
A satin foot or non-stick foot can help reduce friction and allow the fabric to move more smoothly under the needle.
      7. Stabilize the Fabric Edges
Use fabric spray starch to temporarily stiffen the edges of the satin, making it easier to sew without puckering.
      8. Check the Feed Dogs
Ensure the feed dogs are clean and properly engaged to feed the fabric evenly. Dirt or lint can interfere with the fabric movement.
The Singer Stylist 7258 is a versatile machine, but like most domestic sewing machines, it may require some adjustments to handle challenging fabrics like satin. While it's not really a specifically known issue for this machine, the gathering you're experiencing is common when sewing delicate fabrics without proper settings and accessories.
If the problem persists despite these adjustments, maybe it could be worth consulting the user manual or reaching out to Singer's customer support for additional guidance. Let me know how it goes! But regardless of any issues you might have in the beginning, remember not to get frustrated and keep going, we all been there and still figure out some things and learning curb is a real thing! Reach out any time 🤗
