I loved this show when it was originally broadcast, but I love it even more now.Who knew that real music would become an endangered species?

This is what I miss. Ever since Nashville went teen vote.....Country music has rolled off an assembly line. God bless the imagination, dedication and creative"ness" of music back then that musicians like Jerry Reed and Glenn Campbell made. They poured their hearts and mind into creating and playing the music they did. I will always remember them for their music. And when I die my children will have the burden of dealing with the mountain of a collection of their music I left behind.

unfortunatly I came about Jerry and his Music in late July. His music was in my opinion the best I'd ever heared. when I saw the headline that he had passed I was in utter shock. Now I've realized that it happens and that hes gone to a better place. Hes up there now playin with Johhny and Waylon and I bet there havin a good old time.

Jerry Reed was a regular on the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour and he even hosted his own show that was a summer replacement for this one.

I will 2nd that comment Im Yu said. who knew that real music would become an endangered species! So well put. I was a young man in grade school when the Glen Cambell good-time hour was on TV. There was something real in culture going on back in those days - I think they called it the " Generation Gap". Basically young and old people were at War. Old people didn't like the young long hair hippie pot smoking long hairs who listened to rock and roll and young people didn't like the old super conservative old people who listened to Lawrence Welk and country music. So at the time you would have never got me to admit I liked anything but music like Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles. However where could you find me every week this show came on...Glued two feet in front of the TV and I would not miss it for the world. I didn't even give it a 2nd thought that I was listening to the " enemy's" music. All I knew was I loved it. And of course now I love it even more. I am so sad that Jerry ended up like he did. He was so great and Glen too.

Yep, they're both alive alright. Saw Glen live at Glasgow, Scotland last week. 71 years old now but still slim and fit and sings like a dream. He's an awesome guitar player. Get his most recent DVD - Sioux Falls/South Dakota - full orchestra concert. Recorded in 1991 - it's a classic.

Remember working as a roadie hack for a local equipment rental company in Toronto back in 79 or 80, and we were setting up for Glen at Ontario Place. I had the privilege (unbeknownst to Mr. Campbell, no doubt) of "playing" his top of the line Ovation.
On stage he comes a few hours later, with his hand wrapped in bandages. Broken thumb? Sprained wrist? I can't recall....consummate professional and one hell of a player.

Thank you for the post - and can't wait to share w/my man - he plays acoustic bluegrass. Watching Jerry play the intro w/out pick is impressive - and then switching back. And there are few who can just toss a guitar down and pick it back up w/out missing a beat.
We miss him already and know that he is playing his heart out and givin' the angels something to giggle to...

Americans have alot to be proud of, They in entertainemt alone have given my small walk in life some pretty impressive Idols in muisic, But its later on in life where you get to see the old masters Like Chet Atkins With Younger Artists Like Mark Knoffer where you can even across borders and ages, Music has to be the universal constant,

I first saw this video a week ago. I've been back for more since. I never realised Jerry Reed was so very talented. I think Glen is wrecked on booze, the way he tells Jerry to "Rip it Off!... I'll join in" between songs! lol. Very funny. Doesn't stop him playing and singing like the legend that he is though. God bless that man!

musicmikeal has the right idea on the difference between a fiddle and a violin. There is less arch in a fiddle bridge to make it easier to play "double stops" (two strings at a time). Many fiddle tune melodies are noted on one string while a second open string is sounded, creating a "drone" effect (owing to the Celtic origin of many fiddle tunes; think of a melody playing over droning notes as on the bagpipes). Also, to compete with the volume of other bluegrass instruments, fiddles are......

most of the time you only saw jerry reed doing simple strumming.....however he could really play well. I saw one performance on youtube where Reed was playing some seriously complicated stuff.....I was shocked, I didn't know he could play that well. Same Deal with "Elvis Presley"........he could play guitar fairly well but he chose to use his guitar mostley as a prop
