When visiting the museum a couple times around 15 years ago, I imagined ripping around that track on one of my old Nortons, this video will have to suffice... I did get to rip through the Colorado Rockies, back 25 to over 50 years ago when the traffic was MUCH less...Loved the Beemer, too, have an old R90S... What a hell of a way and time to get a leg broken...Thank you for all your effort in filming and sharing, it's a real treat for us "older gentlemen" who "can't".
Norton produced a 750cc short stroke commando road bike ! As far as I know of the 200 that were made I only know of one in existence. All the others had the engines removed and replaced with standard 850cc engines. The short stroke was an 850 fitted with a short throw crank, steel connecting rods, domed pistons and a much modified head that had a more severe hemi combustion chamber !

I own both a R75 and a 750 commando ..(71 and 72). I am amazed how that beemer moved. On the last lap, did the beemer go wide on his own or did you "rossi" him?
motoalchemy He admitted to me later that he was feeling the pressure from me on that last lap and tried to go super late on the brakes and just out braked himself and had to go grass tracking, I just slipped by thinking ‘thank you very much’...!! Dan is pretty fast on that Bimmer
That's right, we don't use valve seals and the motors always smoke a bit on the over-run but then I don't have to worry about them melting down and causing problems
Hey! It puts out around 74hp at the rear wheel on the dyno. I goes well also because we have got the weight down to about 320lbs so the power to weight is pretty good; also there are lots of handling mods that help going around all those pesky corners...
Great stuff! Would be even better if the cameras had a better refresh rate and image stabilization....waaay too much "jelly roll" effect to fully enjoy IMHO.
Yea, that was two years ago on a GoPro that was 4 years old, the one I have now is much superior. If you want to see really bad jelly roll go back to my 9 year old Daytona or Roebling road Road videos, the cameras were not good back then

Are these American imported Nortons anything other than the Europe models?
I am unaware of any differences between 1972 North American or European models, they were pretty much all the same Commandos
Only differences were likely electrical, like what's hot and what's not and what colour the blinkers were. Doesn't apply here.
It looks at bit smokey on the overrun , I've heard some Norton race engines don't use any valve seals .
