it's definitely not the va's fault! 😄 the team were not giving him a clear direction as to how their relationships look like. the inconsistency became too jarring after the drum event when it was clear as day that ayato was happy with their friendships, so i am so so happy to see the voiceline is fixed.

I hated the original one, not only as an Itto main, but because of what it said about Ayato. For him to be so high and mighty about Ittos "eccentricities" and continue to be friends with him even though it sounds like he hates his guts and talks shit about him behind his back just painted a really ugly picture of who Ayato really was. It was such a bad translation job and I'm happy they fixed it. My Oni boy didn't deserve that lmao
Yeah, Ayato likes 'bullying' people but not in a mean spirited way. He just thinks it's funny to mess with people. He doesn't hate them or wish actual harm on them.

THIS EXACTLY!! I actually lost the 50/50 on Ayato's first banner but didn't feel that bad about it after I heard this voiceline, I just remember thinking "oh wow, that is NOT the direction I thought they were going with his character" and now that they've fixed it I'm so happy
This is an example of why good direction is a necessity in voice acting. I've tried voice acting for someone exactly once in my life, and immediately quit because they could not get what I meant when I was asking for direction. Knowing the context of the line isn't enough, which is what they kept giving me. You need to know the emotion your character feels when speaking the line. The thing is, in the first version, Ayato's voice actor knew exactly what the context was and what the line was. His voice acting was fine, absolutely nothing was wrong with it. He conveyed the emotions well. However, the emotions themselves were the wrong ones, and it's very obvious it was due to a direction mistake. They clearly just didn't describe how Ayato feels about the situation properly, and so the voice actor assumed a hint of annoyance due to how the script was written. With proper direction, he would've sounded like the new line in the first place. This isn't a jab at the directors, by the way. I'm sure it was an honest mistake. Normally they do just fine when directing the talents behind the game. This is more of an explanation for the people in the comments on how to avoid making this mistake themselves. For anyone wondering, also, my experience with voice acting went like this. I was on Roblox, and some guy was looking for ANYBODY who could do a female voice (he was very desperate.) He didn't even care if they were young as long as they could pass semi-decently as an adult, lol. I wanted to help so I offered to voice for his game. I forget if I was getting anything in return or not. Anyways, he gave me the lines, and the lines described the context pretty well. However, upon asking for details on the emotions and how to speak, he just said "Talking about your dead son." (if I recall right.) The problem is that's not an emotion, that's just context. Am I saddened by his death? Frustrated? Scared? A mix of all of the above? Something entirely else? I had no idea and no matter what I did he couldn't describe it. So, I just decided to leave him to find someone else for the job. I may not be good at voice acting, but I'm still going to do my darndest to get it right when asked for it so if I can't get a basic level of direction I'm just not going to bother. I hope he eventually found someone for his game, and also perhaps that he eventually figured out how to help them as best as he could.
agreed! i've never done voice acting myself, but i love to sing, and to me all songs convey some sort of emotions, and not all singers are capable of portraying that out (which is why i find scaramouche boss theme soooo cool, because i can hear his anger, sadness, rage). like you said, just having a context is not enough, the person voicing it must have an idea what kind of emotion he/she has to display for the script. ayato's va here did a great job at being annoyed at first, and amused in the new version. there's already inconsistency in different dubs detected by fans, and i hope the developer team is more careful with the directions they're taking for future characters!
My exact complaint with Xiao's English voice lines, especially the early parts. Worse cause I am Chinese and like to play with Chinese voiceover, the difference... 😮💨
The director is not bad by no means considering some other games we got, but there are too many honest mistakes on his part. I get that it's a tight schedule, but man, it gets annoying overtime.
honestly i think we can dunk on the english dub directors as a treat. that's the same crew who told paimon's va to go "higher" and make her voice the current screech it is today. paimon's voice in the earlier quests back in version 1.0 was so much better and a lot closer to her chinese voice. this current one manages to be worse even than paimon in the japanese dub which is a tier of its own. plus whatever is going on with xiao? i honestly don't know how they managed to get his character so wrong. soooo yeah i don't have the highest opinion on them.

Same. I don't mind the change of "eccentricities" to "unique character" because it sounds more understanding/ friendly, but I did like enjoy verbal eye roll. It sounded like fond exasperation to me. I do appreciate the nicer tone overall, though. I love unconventional friendships!
By itself "I mean really" sounds like how Yae Miko says it (with fond exasperation), but the preceding lines sounded so vitriolic it was hard to interpret it as good faith in the og version (for me atleast). But yeah it's a fun line and they could have kept it.
i'm SO SO glad they changed it. i was always so confused why his EN voicelines was so hostile, while the other 3 dubs feel endearing and it makes much more sense in the story that he's friendly towards Itto, since Ayato is willing to do Onikabuto battle with Itto, gifted him rare TCG cards during his drumalong event etc.

@@nine_gi I didn’t realize, I have always used the Japanese and the Chinese version for Ayato because they were so well done, so I was genuinely confused when they say he was hostile about Itto. I mean every time I heard it I knew he was amused at having such a naive friend around him who doesn’t give a damn about his power or his identity 😂
YESSSSSS! The old voice line was my only disappointment from getting Ayato because he said it with such vitriol. He sounds so much better, and less like he despises Itto. I'm so glad they made this change.
Not only does it sound better and nicer, but given how conniving he can be and how polite he is naturally unless he needs to get serious over matters. It strikes the idea that he isn't one you want to anger. Between his position and his connections, him being calm and collected is far more appropriate over crude and on edge.
This is SOOO much better. His old voiceline made him sound like he hates Itto’s guts and is just forced to act polite, and I think it's really contradicting to Itto's voiceline. This new one makes it sound like they're actually friends. It sounds like Ayato is still taken aback by Itto, but from the tone you can tell they still like to hang out together. His old one sounded pretty rude while in this one he sounds glad that someone treats him like a regular person. I'm happy they made this change.

I can finally sleep in peace lol. The eng version is so good i love hearing it even tho i use jp for the gameplay. I just felt sad about the direction they made on the voiceline about itto because ayato and itto are actually the representation of sweet friendship despite the different "social hierarchy" but the direction made it seem it was one sided ;-; Thanks hoyo for listening and I'm so shook about how Chris (the va) did here. You can literally hear his smile when he talks about itto :')
I remember telling Hoyo in the survey that Ayato's voicelines and directions (when he was initially released), gave more of a spoiled-kid type like Draco Malfoy kinda. I really hate it because I love his character design and I love Itto. So glad they changed it.

I love to believe that the old version is Ayato’s first impression of Itto’s brashness and unsophistications; while the new one would be his impression of the Oni right now after hanging out for quite some time.

Oh man, this is so much better! I was also confused and sad about this line, cause I usually play with JPN dub, and he sounded far more amused by the situation, whereas the Eng dub made him sound like he straight up despised Itto. Glad they redid it! (also both Hackney and Ishida are some of my favorite VAs so picking between them is difficult at best. His CN voice is absolutely beautiful as well. Great picks all around!)
I’m very happy for this change! Chris Hackney is a wonderful voice actor who does his character roles well with much passion & I’m pleased to see that this line was fixed to match up to the playfully bemused but fond tone this line carries as acted by Zhao Lu, Akira Ishida and Jang Min-Hyeok in their respective languages! Proper voice direction matters a lot! (edited for name typo!)
The older version sounded like he looks down on the poor QUITE ENOUGH. Speaking of which, i bet they still kept the line when he said “oh. So, you collect these~”
This suits his personality much better! Even about people Ayato genuinely dislikes he doesn't talk so harshly. And based on what we know about him, he really is just amused and entertained by Itto's antics. That's how it's intended anyway, the original - cn - sounds the exact same way. Plus, despite everything, Ayato is a pretty kind character and he's smart enough to see that Itto is too. He would NEVER talk badly about him.
Most of it is way better, but I will miss the sheer exasperation in his voice as he talks about the onikabuto. That specific part was like one of the most memorable of his voice lines for me!
I'M SO HAPPY TAT itto is my fav so hearing the person he calls 'bro' talking about him in a very condescending tone hurts a lot. I'm so happy they make it sounds more accurate (like other dubs)
With their relationship increasing the voice lines change into much better and friendly towards characters. I hope there will be more opportunity to see change in voice lines. I really want to see Hu Tao’s positive interaction with others. She is judged by many and I want her to be treated as good as possible. Also I want to see how Diluc and Kaeya’s progress will go :)

Me who play in JP and read other characters voiceline about Hu Tao: They amuse by her antique and nothing indicate they hate her. Also in lore, Hu Tao get along well with Xiangling, Xingqiu and Chongyun. She tease Xiangling and Chongyun but Xingqiu is her partner in crime and bestie. In lore both competing for rap battle while Chongyun be the judge lmaoo.
Ayato scolded Itto for how absurd the beetle fight is. Then Itto showed showed him the beetle fight. Bro Ayato got excited and changed his mind. Now Bro Ayato is a beetle fight #2 fan.

I could actually see the first version working, but only if Ayatos face was animated with the dialogue . His facial expressions could be more exasperated as he spoke and the tone would be more of a tired businessman dealing with someone he considered childish. But with only the voice, I definitely see the original version being interpreted as spiteful or bitter. The second version is still great
It's good they changed it, that's exactly why I dont use the english dub in the first place because it is so incredibly inconsistent compare to the other languages for so many characters not just toward each others but speech manners and overall personality are different and it's so jarring reading the english subs but understanding the other language I have on for the voices and see they dont say at all the same thing. Sometimes it doesnt even make that much sense for them to have changed the meaning of the original lines. Because of that theres so much mischaracterasation(?) going on, like as funny as Dehya saying "Shut it Paimon!" was, she never never that, in JP she said "Are you dumb?" Which is not at all the same emotion behind it. Xiao is one of my favourite character and while he is still very closed off in other language (that's just his character) he is nowhere near edgy like in english, he never speaks with anger or disdain behind his words just pure cold factual tone which suits him more imo. Also on the topic of Paimon, theres a reason why most of the Genshin fandom outside EN lives her and it's super rare for people to dislike her because she is never rude, she speaks like a kid and a bit blunt or dumb at times but she isnt rude or annoying like EN Paimon. (Btw this isnt on any of the voice actors I blame the directors for the most part and the translation team, as someone who has done translation work I know how tedious it can be to find the right words to convey the original emotions or meaning but more often than not I can't justify their choice to change entire sentences meaning or straight up going for the wrong emotion like why do they take a normal dialogue and flip every switch to the extreme instead of staying loyal to the original characterisation is a mystery to me.. but yeah that's just a personal rant)

OMG YES. This finally fits Ayato. The old one sounded so aggressive… and I feel like that’s NEVER what Ayato sounds like???? Not only was it rude/insulting to Itto it was just super out of character for Ayato. It makes him sound legit evil, like he looks down on Itto but is a fake passive aggressive friend lol.
I did honestly like the voice acting in the original version of the voiceline and personally didn't see any issue with his tone but this new one is alright and does keep in line with the other languages voice lines so ey the community is happy
Been ayato main for the last 8 month,it was actually my first time hearing ayato voice line in english.He sound like very noble person that have work to do. But his JP voice is good as well!He sound more like kind hearted nobles that have something fishy on the background

I was oblivious to this since I don’t have Ayato in my party, but I’m glad they decided to change the voiceline! The overall tone change from what seemed to be really condescending and filled with prejudice to a unexpected but open minded kindness to a new experience.

I don't think either of the performances were bad in isolation, but the latter goes better in line with how in game wants to portray their relationship
so glad they changed it. in the old one, he sounds offended by being called "bro" but itto's just being friendly. he sounded like someone who acted nice infront of itto but talked behind his back, which doesn't suit ayato's character one bit. in the new one, he sounds a bit surprised but is completely okay with it.
I heard they changed the line but I don't have Ayato so I wasn't sure if they had rewritten the line completely given how much changes in the voicelines have been happening with the tampering with Irminsul but after hearing the original, I'm glad they changed the delivery and some parts to be more friendly. Would've been sad to see that Itto's friendship was one sided.

This makes me so happy. It’s such a small detail and they could so easily have just left it. For me, it shows how detail and story oriented Genshin is - they care enough about a single line to have it re-recorded to be a better match.
Now THIS matches his personality. He's a spoiled brat. No doubt about that. But he's also a curious, open minded person. It's how he makes his crazy over complicated plans work.

If they also change his exploration voicelines then Ayato will become a player friendly charecter. Otherwise if you take him for exploration now then you'll get bombarded with emotional damage whenever he says his lines when opening a treasure chest.
Unpopular opinion, but I liked the old voice line. I found it a little funny that Itto thinks they’re friends, but Ayato secretly hates him. I like little misunderstandings like that. Plus I doubt Ayato really hated him, it was just one of those fronts that dissolved overtime, like with Sasuke’s opinions towards Naruto.
I wish they would change some of Xiao's EN lines. There is such a huge difference in EN version of his voice lines compared to his tea pot lines, it's like talking to two different people.
Fr. In the chasm quest, his EN direction is so much better! It was so jarring for me hearing his earlier voicelines compared to his current direction. They should go back and redo it. His VA is excellent but the direction she had taken (not her fault at all, she's just doing her job and following the directors) was off.

Ngl I preferred the old one. I mean... he's a serious lord. The head of the Kamisato clan, so it's only fair he wouldn't entertain Itto's idiocy at times. He does have a reason or two to not like Itto's behaviour and the lack of even faintest idea of introducing himself first. You don't go to random people and call them "bro" or "sis". It's a lack of respect.
I love how they decided to change and fix the voice line rather than just ignoring it. It really goes to show that directing is everything when it comes to voice acting because even if you mean for a character to be one way, they can still come across as something else entirely simply from a difference in directing. the best example of this, i think, would be Xiao. hearing him in the eng dub, you'd think he's quite rude and brash, always seeming to be angry at something, but if you listen to the original Chinese voice, you'll find that he isn't like this at all. He isn't rude or brash and he certainly isn't angry all of the time. He's calm and collected, quiet and keeps mostly to himself. He's like your stereotypical introvert with piles apon piles of trauma. and no hate to his voice actor, she did a great job with what she was given, but i always felt that her voice didn't really suit him. he looks like his voice would be much smoother and much less agressive sounding. not that i don't think Laila Berzins could pull off a voice like this, I just wish the directers had been smarter about him as a character because to fumble the characterization ball this badly to the point where xiao's entire character in the eng dub needs to be reworked is outrageous.

Personally, I kind of wish they kept it how it was. Ayato was the first character we ever had that actually had negative things to say about other people and it showed diversity. Now he's just as happy sunshine friendship as everyone else. Ayato's always wearing a mask to hide the true him, and for the Itto voice line, his mask slipped a little. It was refreshing to see someone so different. Now it's boring...
hey i dont think so 😂 chongyun has quite a number of spicy voicelines too (he doesn't like hu tao, xiangling's spicy food and xinyan's fiery performance i think), also zhongli says something about not liking hu tao as well. ayato has something against yae miko i think, which is totally in his character. his relationship with itto appears to be...quite genuine so that's why some people think the old voiceline didn't fit in. just my 2 cents! ✌🏻

This isn't a jab at the directors, by the way. I'm sure it was an honest mistake. Normally they do just fine when directing the talents behind the game. This is more of an explanation for the people in the comments on how to avoid making this mistake themselves.
For anyone wondering, also, my experience with voice acting went like this.
I was on Roblox, and some guy was looking for ANYBODY who could do a female voice (he was very desperate.) He didn't even care if they were young as long as they could pass semi-decently as an adult, lol. I wanted to help so I offered to voice for his game. I forget if I was getting anything in return or not. Anyways, he gave me the lines, and the lines described the context pretty well. However, upon asking for details on the emotions and how to speak, he just said "Talking about your dead son." (if I recall right.)
The problem is that's not an emotion, that's just context. Am I saddened by his death? Frustrated? Scared? A mix of all of the above? Something entirely else? I had no idea and no matter what I did he couldn't describe it. So, I just decided to leave him to find someone else for the job. I may not be good at voice acting, but I'm still going to do my darndest to get it right when asked for it so if I can't get a basic level of direction I'm just not going to bother.
I hope he eventually found someone for his game, and also perhaps that he eventually figured out how to help them as best as he could.
agreed! i've never done voice acting myself, but i love to sing, and to me all songs convey some sort of emotions, and not all singers are capable of portraying that out (which is why i find scaramouche boss theme soooo cool, because i can hear his anger, sadness, rage). like you said, just having a context is not enough, the person voicing it must have an idea what kind of emotion he/she has to display for the script. ayato's va here did a great job at being annoyed at first, and amused in the new version. there's already inconsistency in different dubs detected by fans, and i hope the developer team is more careful with the directions they're taking for future characters!
My exact complaint with Xiao's English voice lines, especially the early parts. Worse cause I am Chinese and like to play with Chinese voiceover, the difference... 😮💨
The director is not bad by no means considering some other games we got, but there are too many honest mistakes on his part. I get that it's a tight schedule, but man, it gets annoying overtime.
honestly i think we can dunk on the english dub directors as a treat. that's the same crew who told paimon's va to go "higher" and make her voice the current screech it is today. paimon's voice in the earlier quests back in version 1.0 was so much better and a lot closer to her chinese voice. this current one manages to be worse even than paimon in the japanese dub which is a tier of its own. plus whatever is going on with xiao? i honestly don't know how they managed to get his character so wrong. soooo yeah i don't have the highest opinion on them.
This exactly, that’s why whenever I do voice lines for friends projects I do so on discord vc so I can ask questions like that or if they need a re take.

Same. I don't mind the change of "eccentricities" to "unique character" because it sounds more understanding/ friendly, but I did like enjoy verbal eye roll. It sounded like fond exasperation to me. I do appreciate the nicer tone overall, though. I love unconventional friendships!
By itself "I mean really" sounds like how Yae Miko says it (with fond exasperation), but the preceding lines sounded so vitriolic it was hard to interpret it as good faith in the og version (for me atleast). But yeah it's a fun line and they could have kept it.
i'm SO SO glad they changed it. i was always so confused why his EN voicelines was so hostile, while the other 3 dubs feel endearing
and it makes much more sense in the story that he's friendly towards Itto, since Ayato is willing to do Onikabuto battle with Itto, gifted him rare TCG cards during his drumalong event etc.
oh yes! i was aware of the inconsistency between the tone of different dubs too. it is kinda weird how the team work, shouldn't they be given the same briefing as how ayato should sound like? 😂
@@nine_gi I didn’t realize, I have always used the Japanese and the Chinese version for Ayato because they were so well done, so I was genuinely confused when they say he was hostile about Itto. I mean every time I heard it I knew he was amused at having such a naive friend around him who doesn’t give a damn about his power or his identity 😂
YESSSSSS! The old voice line was my only disappointment from getting Ayato because he said it with such vitriol. He sounds so much better, and less like he despises Itto. I'm so glad they made this change.

This is SOOO much better. His old voiceline made him sound like he hates Itto’s guts and is just forced to act polite, and I think it's really contradicting to Itto's voiceline. This new one makes it sound like they're actually friends. It sounds like Ayato is still taken aback by Itto, but from the tone you can tell they still like to hang out together. His old one sounded pretty rude while in this one he sounds glad that someone treats him like a regular person. I'm happy they made this change.
Ngl it even sounds more in character for him to be interested in the idea of controlling onikabuto than be disgusted by the idea, considering how he's a politician

I can finally sleep in peace lol. The eng version is so good i love hearing it even tho i use jp for the gameplay. I just felt sad about the direction they made on the voiceline about itto because ayato and itto are actually the representation of sweet friendship despite the different "social hierarchy" but the direction made it seem it was one sided ;-;

I remember telling Hoyo in the survey that Ayato's voicelines and directions (when he was initially released), gave more of a spoiled-kid type like Draco Malfoy kinda. I really hate it because I love his character design and I love Itto.

I love to believe that the old version is Ayato’s first impression of Itto’s brashness and unsophistications; while the new one would be his impression of the Oni right now after hanging out for quite some time.

Oh man, this is so much better! I was also confused and sad about this line, cause I usually play with JPN dub, and he sounded far more amused by the situation, whereas the Eng dub made him sound like he straight up despised Itto. Glad they redid it!
(also both Hackney and Ishida are some of my favorite VAs so picking between them is difficult at best. His CN voice is absolutely beautiful as well. Great picks all around!)
I’m very happy for this change! Chris Hackney is a wonderful voice actor who does his character roles well with much passion & I’m pleased to see that this line was fixed to match up to the playfully bemused but fond tone this line carries as acted by Zhao Lu, Akira Ishida and Jang Min-Hyeok in their respective languages! Proper voice direction matters a lot! (edited for name typo!)
The older version sounded like he looks down on the poor QUITE ENOUGH. Speaking of which, i bet they still kept the line when he said
“oh. So, you collect these~”
Of course, and his "Hmph..yes..*very* nice.." 🤭
This suits his personality much better! Even about people Ayato genuinely dislikes he doesn't talk so harshly. And based on what we know about him, he really is just amused and entertained by Itto's antics. That's how it's intended anyway, the original - cn - sounds the exact same way. Plus, despite everything, Ayato is a pretty kind character and he's smart enough to see that Itto is too. He would NEVER talk badly about him.
Most of it is way better, but I will miss the sheer exasperation in his voice as he talks about the onikabuto. That specific part was like one of the most memorable of his voice lines for me!
I'M SO HAPPY TAT itto is my fav so hearing the person he calls 'bro' talking about him in a very condescending tone hurts a lot. I'm so happy they make it sounds more accurate (like other dubs)
With their relationship increasing the voice lines change into much better and friendly towards characters. I hope there will be more opportunity to see change in voice lines. I really want to see Hu Tao’s positive interaction with others. She is judged by many and I want her to be treated as good as possible. Also I want to see how Diluc and Kaeya’s progress will go :)
oh yes, the possibility! i would love to see updates on diluc and kaeya too. also remember when zhongli said he's not a fan of hu tao, yet we can see them chilling together like grandpa-grandkid during lantern rite? they should've updated that too 😆

Me who play in JP and read other characters voiceline about Hu Tao:
They amuse by her antique and nothing indicate they hate her.
Also in lore, Hu Tao get along well with Xiangling, Xingqiu and Chongyun. She tease Xiangling and Chongyun but Xingqiu is her partner in crime and bestie. In lore both competing for rap battle while Chongyun be the judge lmaoo.

I could actually see the first version working, but only if Ayatos face was animated with the dialogue . His facial expressions could be more exasperated as he spoke and the tone would be more of a tired businessman dealing with someone he considered childish. But with only the voice, I definitely see the original version being interpreted as spiteful or bitter.

It's good they changed it, that's exactly why I dont use the english dub in the first place because it is so incredibly inconsistent compare to the other languages for so many characters not just toward each others but speech manners and overall personality are different and it's so jarring reading the english subs but understanding the other language I have on for the voices and see they dont say at all the same thing. Sometimes it doesnt even make that much sense for them to have changed the meaning of the original lines.
Because of that theres so much mischaracterasation(?) going on, like as funny as Dehya saying "Shut it Paimon!" was, she never never that, in JP she said "Are you dumb?" Which is not at all the same emotion behind it. Xiao is one of my favourite character and while he is still very closed off in other language (that's just his character) he is nowhere near edgy like in english, he never speaks with anger or disdain behind his words just pure cold factual tone which suits him more imo. Also on the topic of Paimon, theres a reason why most of the Genshin fandom outside EN lives her and it's super rare for people to dislike her because she is never rude, she speaks like a kid and a bit blunt or dumb at times but she isnt rude or annoying like EN Paimon.
(Btw this isnt on any of the voice actors I blame the directors for the most part and the translation team, as someone who has done translation work I know how tedious it can be to find the right words to convey the original emotions or meaning but more often than not I can't justify their choice to change entire sentences meaning or straight up going for the wrong emotion like why do they take a normal dialogue and flip every switch to the extreme instead of staying loyal to the original characterisation is a mystery to me.. but yeah that's just a personal rant)
It is unfortunate because I love a lot of the English voices overall, but yeah some of the writing and directing choices they make are odd.
This change is so so much better, it actually got a genuine smile out of me, this fits his voice lime in all the other languages way better, im so glad they fixed this
OMG YES. This finally fits Ayato. The old one sounded so aggressive… and I feel like that’s NEVER what Ayato sounds like???? Not only was it rude/insulting to Itto it was just super out of character for Ayato. It makes him sound legit evil, like he looks down on Itto but is a fake passive aggressive friend lol.
I did honestly like the voice acting in the original version of the voiceline and personally didn't see any issue with his tone but this new one is alright and does keep in line with the other languages voice lines so ey the community is happy
Been ayato main for the last 8 month,it was actually my first time hearing ayato voice line in english.He sound like very noble person that have work to do. But his JP voice is good as well!He sound more like kind hearted nobles that have something fishy on the background

I was oblivious to this since I don’t have Ayato in my party, but I’m glad they decided to change the voiceline! The overall tone change from what seemed to be really condescending and filled with prejudice to a unexpected but open minded kindness to a new experience.

I don't think either of the performances were bad in isolation, but the latter goes better in line with how in game wants to portray their relationship

I heard they changed the line but I don't have Ayato so I wasn't sure if they had rewritten the line completely given how much changes in the voicelines have been happening with the tampering with Irminsul but after hearing the original, I'm glad they changed the delivery and some parts to be more friendly. Would've been sad to see that Itto's friendship was one sided.

This makes me so happy. It’s such a small detail and they could so easily have just left it. For me, it shows how detail and story oriented Genshin is - they care enough about a single line to have it re-recorded to be a better match.
Now THIS matches his personality. He's a spoiled brat. No doubt about that. But he's also a curious, open minded person.
It's how he makes his crazy over complicated plans work.

@@RavenclawNimbus he's some kind of a political figure in inazuma, very tactful and nuance, it's impossible for him to sound this demeaning. that's why many fans are surprised by this voiceline, it's too strong (hence why i said his va did a good job acting it out despite it being out of character 😆) it's a problem with direction i guess

If they also change his exploration voicelines then Ayato will become a player friendly charecter. Otherwise if you take him for exploration now then you'll get bombarded with emotional damage whenever he says his lines when opening a treasure chest.

Unpopular opinion, but I liked the old voice line. I found it a little funny that Itto thinks they’re friends, but Ayato secretly hates him. I like little misunderstandings like that. Plus I doubt Ayato really hated him, it was just one of those fronts that dissolved overtime, like with Sasuke’s opinions towards Naruto.
I wish they would change some of Xiao's EN lines. There is such a huge difference in EN version of his voice lines compared to his tea pot lines, it's like talking to two different people.

Fr. In the chasm quest, his EN direction is so much better! It was so jarring for me hearing his earlier voicelines compared to his current direction. They should go back and redo it. His VA is excellent but the direction she had taken (not her fault at all, she's just doing her job and following the directors) was off.
I kept thinking, at what point during the whole production stages that they started to mischaracterize him? And i kinda wanna know who, and why they made that decision to interpret him that way

I love how they decided to change and fix the voice line rather than just ignoring it. It really goes to show that directing is everything when it comes to voice acting because even if you mean for a character to be one way, they can still come across as something else entirely simply from a difference in directing. the best example of this, i think, would be Xiao. hearing him in the eng dub, you'd think he's quite rude and brash, always seeming to be angry at something, but if you listen to the original Chinese voice, you'll find that he isn't like this at all. He isn't rude or brash and he certainly isn't angry all of the time. He's calm and collected, quiet and keeps mostly to himself. He's like your stereotypical introvert with piles apon piles of trauma. and no hate to his voice actor, she did a great job with what she was given, but i always felt that her voice didn't really suit him. he looks like his voice would be much smoother and much less agressive sounding. not that i don't think Laila Berzins could pull off a voice like this, I just wish the directers had been smarter about him as a character because to fumble the characterization ball this badly to the point where xiao's entire character in the eng dub needs to be reworked is outrageous.

Personally, I kind of wish they kept it how it was. Ayato was the first character we ever had that actually had negative things to say about other people and it showed diversity. Now he's just as happy sunshine friendship as everyone else. Ayato's always wearing a mask to hide the true him, and for the Itto voice line, his mask slipped a little. It was refreshing to see someone so different.

hey i dont think so 😂 chongyun has quite a number of spicy voicelines too (he doesn't like hu tao, xiangling's spicy food and xinyan's fiery performance i think), also zhongli says something about not liking hu tao as well.
ayato has something against yae miko i think, which is totally in his character. his relationship with itto appears to be...quite genuine so that's why some people think the old voiceline didn't fit in. just my 2 cents! ✌🏻
