After soaking her in boiling water + oxy I found the best way to remove the glue from inside is filling up a sink with warm water, put the doll head in with the neck hole up and squeeze it from underwater. The bubbles will raise all the glue chunks to surface level so that you can comfortably pick them up with tweezers. Some will even come out themselves. Just putting it out there because surgically removing glue any other way took me 5 oxy treatments over the span of 2 days.
This is so useful! I buy alot of older "fixer-upper" monster high dolls as well as ever after high dolls. That glue thing......??? Why the hell did Mattel do that??? I'm sure it had to do with money and profit. Thank you so much for this video. It's informative and fascinating and important to understanding mass produced dolls and how these dolls are made. Keep up the excellent work!
I think they were using a new rooting method that wasn’t lock and loop (what literally all dolls use) for some reason and decided they needed to pour a ridiculous amount of glue in the heads to keep the hair in? It sucks 🤦♀️
I’m keen to try this on my MH dolls but also terrified haha… it’s good to see someone else going through this journey first so I can see what to expect haha
Bahaha my brain comes up with the strangest things and I don’t even realize how strange they are until someone points them out 😳 Thank you! These restoration style videos are so addicting for me as a viewer so I love that I can make them too haha
I just tried this on 2 dolls of mine that I got used, I did one session and did not see any chunks of glue at all even before the treatment so I hope this worked! Edit: OMG I am BLOWN AWAY at the results!! Their hair is not greasy or sticky after 1 session! This is definitely my go-to method now!!!
Thanks for doing videos demonstrating how this works, it didn't sound like something that actually would work. I had given up on MH because of the glue and discoloration.
Try using purple shampoo for Frankie’s hair, I use it for my school picture day Abbey and it worked well. You might still have a slight yellow but with it still make a difference
I had the same problem with my briar and raven. My method is soaking the doll in goo gone for about two hours then rinse and clean the doll hair. It worked for my girls and was easy enough.
Did you remove their heads or just do the hair? I bought a bunch of these dolls before i realized it was a problem and now i am going crazy and hurting myself trying to clean them. I have a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder and i just want to cry 😭

It did not work for me after a week of trying every goo gone method unfortunately :( I’m glad it works for others but unfortunately it didn’t make a difference for my dolls
My question was also about getting oxyclean on their face paint- another video that I watched said not to, and they didn’t take her head off and kept her face out of the oxyclean. I tried that with a dead tired lagoona I just got and it really didn’t help much of at all. So I’m wondering if really the only good way to do this is to take the head off like you did. The glue really is disgusting!!
I am back. I had to make a second comment about this, I just had to remove my hunter huntsman hair because it was so glue damaged it was unfixable... omg the BIGGEST glue chunk I ever saw was removed! It was circular and the diameter of a nickel, and the thickness was 3 nickles thick (EWWW) it has earned the title of glue island to me lol, anyone else have seen a chunk that big?
Should i do this if i plan on playing with the doll? My birthday Draculoura has a ton of glue in her hair and it's a mess. As well as my Frankie and clawdeen.
Okayyy maybe I’ll start slowly doing these on the really bad MH girlies. I just hate doing it bc it takes so much work and I’m impatient. Might go buy actual oxy clean tho bc the Walmart brand ruined a pair of Bratz shoes for me lmao.
i hope i dont get any hate by this comment cuz SOME people tend to get offended when someone disagree on their behalf..but the yellow on her hair "IS NOT ABOUT THE GLUE " that some frankie dolls have, the hair turns yellow because of the type of saran hair they use for her as is the same as sashabella paws from the magic night out collection and believe me that witch has no glue seepage!!! she an MGA GIRLY ,she has the same hair that frankie has and is yellow no matter if she is in or out of box...cant say the same about first edition sashabella paws who has polypropylene who now in 2022 she still has white hair .
The glue definitely is not the only way it can happen but it definitely is one of the ways it happens. I think with Bratzillaz and their PP, it’s sun damage that causes the yellowing? But I’m no expert
@@xCanadensis oh no the magic night out line has Saran hair, this is why iam telling you about cuz is the only line that has saran hair and Sasha bellas has the exact hair of all the early frankie dolls have , for some reason that hair turns yellow ,cant say the same about reboot frankie dolls cuz they have a different saran hair type most probably from another company but the that hair definetly feels cheaper than the previous hair on her OG dolls and with burn ends in the reboot dolls .
Yeah it’s the glue. You can get the majority out and leave some and not have the leaking issue. Most dolls actually don’t use glue at all as the hair will naturally stay in place (usually it’s done sort of like a sewing machine where it does a “lock and loop”). For some reason mattel decided not to use that method and instead just dump a ridiculous amount of nasty, non-permanent glue into the heads… for years. From the HEAVY combing I’ve done, I have lost some plugs but I was able to do Briar’s tight hairstyle with no issue and can pull pretty hard on the others and not have any loss Though if you want to remove all of the glue AND make sure it never leaks again, people who reroot dolls use “Fabri-Tac” glue and that doesn’t leak :)
i have a question. Is it ok to dump the faces in oxi clean? i mean there is no risk at destroying their faces? Also about getting the glue out of their heads. It wont make the hair fall out right? I'm actually really scared to try any of these XD
Hair shouldn’t fall out unless you’re extremely aggressive- the majority of dolls don’t have any glue at all and the hair stays in just fine. The faces should be fine but some do actually come off. I’ve heard first edition MH up to around DOTD and Campus Stroll have more delicate paint than others. If you’re nervous then avoid getting it on the faces. Don’t ever scrub faces on dolls with abrasives like oxy clean because it will scrape the paint. I had no issues but others may have issues

Mattel stopped doing this thankfully. Not all MH and EAH dolls actually have this issue! It’s just ones from certain factories between certain years
Quick question, what are the benefits of taking the glue out of the dolls (I have a lot of mh and eah dolls I'm very scared to touch haha)
It keeps it from coming out and making their hair sticky! The glue also stains the hair (that’s why my Frankie dolls have yellowed hair)
