    It’s relaxing and almost meditative to watch these old videos or films. It’s funny to see how farmers were dressing back in the 50’s. I had to laugh when they were servicing the oil bath air filter and discarded the used oil on the ground. How times have changed. Thanks so much for sharing this information.

    I love these old farming and equipment videos. In my very simple opinion this era was when the U.S was at it's height. Seems we have gone down hill ever since. Yeah, we have greater technology and medicine and such but as a society we have lost a lot.

    Very informative video,the tractors were started with and without battery, the magneto was very common word using for distributor now a days, the magneto were also used in aircrafts like B-24 and B-17 bombers.

    Thank goodness for modern diesel tractors. Those old machines have a lot of character, but it's a lot of work keeping them serviced, and going through a daily routine just to get it up to working temperature

    I was given my friend greef about the worn out pins in his skid loader, I asked him how often he greased it and he just shrugged and guessed twice a month, I said it should be every week and showed him my skid loader which had twice the hours and was twice as old and had much tighter pins because it was greased

    Imagine if you told the farmers in that day that if they followed this advise they would end up with a tractor worth up to fourty times as much as they payed in the 21st century

    • @allandavis8201
      @allandavis8201 3 года назад +3

      Back then tractors, and almost anything, was designed and built to last, especially when treated in the way the manufacture recommended, today’s machinery is far to complex and computer controlled, you need a degree in computer maintenance and advanced engineering, but that, as they keep telling us, is progress.

      Other than perhaps one with a special serial number, a very short run tractor like an JD 8020, or one that was in a movie name one tractor that has gone up fourty times. So for example a $6,000 4010 would have to be worth $240,000, and if you adjust for inflation it would have to me worth $2.4 million.

    3:13 oh what happened to using antifreeze in these things I guess they used to use water all year around so that the block would crack when it was too cold and then the water pump would split looks like a lot of work for the summer months when he hast to replace the engine and water pump!😩😩

    • @dwightl5863
      @dwightl5863 2 года назад +2

      Antifreeze was invented in 1926. Up to that point the block had to be drained of the water to prevent cracking the block as you stated. It was common practice at the time and didn't involve the expense of antifreeze. Just add water the next time you used the tractor so the practice continued. Same practice for cars, and trucks.

    This film conveys the attitude towards the environment years ago in the scene where dirty air cleaner oil is discarded on the ground.
    People didn't think twice about using ungloved hands to clean out engine oil sudge. Health hazards were greater in the past because leaded gasoline was used in gas engine tractors and lead deposits are in the oil.
