- We're going to do a DIY home decor makeover on these thrift store finds! Let's flip a 70's stool into a BEAUTIFUL French stool! We'll take a plain looking basket and turn that into a WONDERFUL Countryside French Basket that's filled with cotton stems! Lastly, we'll take a very 70's looking rooster figurine and make it into a BIG seller using a little paint and a hangtag. So, if you're ready....let's do this!!!

FIY: From what I have learned, there is a special brush you are supposed to use with waxes. They hold the wax better and you don’t have to keep reloading your brush.

French Country is a gorgeous style. Its warm and I love the colors. I have an ugly stool that needs a facelift. I think I will tackle that now. Its always fun to see what you have made. I went to the thrift store for the first time since pre pandemic. It was great to be back! So many amazing finds! Hey Kelly👋. I couldn't help but notice how you were holding your brush while waxing the basket. If you put a rubber band around the bristles tightly you'll have better success and technique. I simply keep a band around my brush handle for such occasions. Another tip...always wet your brush thoroughly with water before using it. It keeps the brush from absorbing excess product. It also aids in cleaning out the brush after as it's water absorbed not wax or paint. 💕💜😊. I paint a lot.🙄 Love your ideas.

Loved how you did that basket. It really turned out old looking just what you wanted. I’m definitely going to remember using that Osenberg material using the IOD stamps. That was really a cleaver idea. The stool was adorable with the material you used. If I saw that material I too would of bought it. It looks great on that stool, I really liked the idea at what you did with putting that tweed on the bottom. I would never thought of it. Well truthfully I have but never knew how to do it. Thank you Kelly showing me n all of us who did not know. It does make a difference as it gives it a finish look more professional. Can I make a suggestion on the stool. Well I’ll do it anyway. I’d spray the stool with Scotts Guard fabric protection. It will help with dust n dirt. I always do it when I’m recovering something. Loved the rooster. She looked so sweet white n aged.

Hi Sandy! I'm not sure if you were referring to the 70's fabric that was on there when I bought it or the new fabric that I put on it. The new fabric that had the French print was from Joann Fabrics. It's in the Home Decor section on a roll. It normally is $19.99, but right now it's 30% and you don't need very much of it for a stool. Could you use modpoge instead of glue so you could use it outside under my patio ? For the basket
Hi Candace! Are you taking about modpodging the cloth label on the basket, rather than hot glueing it on? I've never modpodge over fabric...just paper. Hhhhmm? I would imagine you could modpodge it on, but I would just be concerned about how well it would do outside in the elements. You did say it was outside under your patio, however, so I would give it a try. Why not....it's not that expensive of an item, so you could experience with it.

Hi Amber! You can get Osnaburg at Joann Fabrics and even Walmart. I think it's like $3.65 a yard. It's usually right by the Muslin. I always use Osnaburg because it's much more sturdier of fabric than muslin and looks more expensive.

I still don't get the whole fascination with "distressing" it makes it look old and cheap instead of new and redone. I don't see why many of you when you paint something over you feel like you just have to distress it.
I have to agree with you on most pieces, however I love the crackel look on some pieces.
I prefer "ageing" pieces carefully rather than distressing them. I've been renovating furniture/upcycling decor for over 40 years now. Although there's a very clear distinction between what appeals to American and UK markets, the sheer volume of thrifted items available in America is unbelievable. It's interesting to see

Kelly. HELP. I tried to do what your fb friend did other basket. Did she paint the fabric 1st or what? I tried adding a stamp and.it sucked. I uses ink and paint. How did she make it legeable?
Hi Pamela! Ok...I messaged her so I'll get back to you on that, however, to me it looks like she painted the basket and the burlap separate. She let the burlap dry completely and then used a stamp on it. After that...it then looks like she attached the burlap with some black thumb tacks in each of the corners. I will say working on burlap is a lot harder because you're not working on a flat surface. Because of that...you are really going to need to really press down your stamp and you want to make sure that you have the right paint or ink mixture. (Meaning not too much paint or ink that it will blob and not so light that you can hardly read the words.) I like to use a piece of tin foil and paint it. This allows a thin layer of paint that you can dip your stamp in. I find that I get the perfect amount this way. I then place it on my fabric and press down hard making sure not to shift it in any way. Hope that helps and if I hear back from her...I'll add to this reply. Ok? Thanks, Pamela! XOXO

@@pamelahinatsu7195 No problem! I haven't heard back from her, as of yet...but yes...I would use a flour sack or dropcloth! Burlap is so hard to work with because of the texture! And, Pamela, you are NEVER a bother, so please don't feel that way! I'm glad to help if I can! Also, I just have to let you know.... I love your comments! I read them all and you really make my day! : )
Ok...I used a larger Bee stencil. Turned out great!!! I even put some tacks in the corners. If I can figure out how to send you a picture I will. You're the best!!!

Love your ideas and your techniques! But when I hear the sandpaper or tearing off liners in baskets, I have to stop watching with headphones on and skip through that section.
