Hi Laura, hi Aaron. You probably won't see my comment but I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am for you and your channel. Watching you develop your home into your own little slice of heaven has been so liberating to me. My mom passed away 3 and a half years ago (about when I first discovered your channel) and she was a firm believer of turning your place into exaclty what you want it to be. Pay more attention to the little details and enjoy daily, simple yet beautiful moments of our lives... Watching you reach your dreams and goals (heartly, south garden, pond and so so many more) brings me an indescribable feeling of content and warmth. I aspire to be like you one day, owning house with a big great garden where I can spend hours and hours enjoying nature through all those small, daily moments... Thank you for every single video you made, thank you for taking us along the journey. You have no idea how much that has helped me mentally. God bless you and your wonderful family. 🥹❤
Hear, hear! I’ve been following along since the townhouse days and it has become a staple in my daily routine. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels somehow invested in another family’s home/life/projects! And what a family to be invested in!! It’s truly a blessing to us all! ❤️
Beautiful comment, I feel exactly the same !!! This is mental health for many of us. ONE DAY / LIFETIME we will be doing the same things. KEEP SEEKING, KEEP KNOCKING, KEEP ASKING !!!!!! 💥🥰🙌💕💥
I am so glad, because I think the rocks add so much beauty and interest. And I kind of would cock my head in questioning when Laura would say rocks aren’t natural in that landscape. But ACTUALLY, if you just go outside the cultivated areas of the farms (which aren’t really the original norm for the region), rocks and uneven ground IS very natural to the landscape. And you don’t have to go very far to find it. How do I know this? My family has lived in that area for four, going on five generations.
I think Laura has been really enamored with English gardens because she attended university in England for a year, now that she has accomplished installing a very English garden to certain areas of the property maybe now she’s willing to broaden her garden style. I think the secret garden aspect helps integrate the gardens together 😀
If she was thinking of gardens where the boulder or rock is just plopped on top of the ground it doesn’t feel natural at all and I could see why she didn’t want them. Once I learned from the Aquascape videos that you need to bury them and kind of set them in a way that looks natural (where the dirt would collect or expose them for example) it was a game changer for me and instead of getting rid of tons of rock from the previous owner I used them.
Of the few gardening channels I watch Garden Answer is the one I won’t miss. I always say gardening is my therapy and watching GA is the boost I need everyday. Thank you Laura, Aaron, Benjamin And Samantha❤️
I was remembering how hard the decision was to remove the boxwoods in this area. Definitely the right choice!!! Good reminder that it is ok to take things out that are not working or that you don't love because look at how much more you guys, and really all of us viewers too, love this space now.
This morning I looked at the video you and Aaron made seven years ago, in your home next-door to your in-laws. When you were in the backyard, you said, “I want to create different areas of interest in my next garden“. Well, you sure have done that. Everything looks so amazing! 😁
The pond looks amazing and so natural. You'd never know it not even been there a a few weeks.. tannins in the water can be highly beneficial to the ecosystem of the pond and can also help keep the water cooler in summer for the fish. They can also premote healing and act as a stress reliver for newly added fish. So I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets too dark for your liking but some tint is very beneficial and natural.
I love how you are embracing the things you used to dislike in gardens especially your own. No ponds, No water, no burm's, no rocks, nothing that makes it look 'artificial'. These men and women are gifted just as Laura is. They see things and are able to put masterpieces together right out of nothing. I get so much joy seeing you get so excited.
You and Arron have made this such a beautiful Oasis. I can hardly remember what it looked like before. Nobody deserves it more than your family. You guys work so hard.
Boulders are beautiful. They add so much character to a garden. Even a smaller stone or grouping of stones add so much. A wonderful gift from nature. 💖😊
Hats off to your editor! He does a great job! I appreciate the pictures of mature plants he includes, the music, and little touches that make these videos so enjoyable.
Laura you can also get pond planting baskets of various sizes and fill them with small pea gravel and the tiniest amount of soil that is on the plant roots. Just make sure you wet the plant roots soil and all, create a little hole is the middle of the pea gravel, put in the plant and then cover really well to the top of the basket. Place the pond baskets slowly in the water with the top of the pond basket right at water level. I grow impatients, creeping Jenny, hostas and caladiums this way. I even do thiller, filler and spiller combos with plants in these pond baskets. With caladium bulbs just make a whole in the center of the pea gravel and put a very small amount of Aquascape pond plant soil in the middle, put in the bulb, then cover well with the pea gravel and put the top of the pot at water level. I also have used pantyhose as planters in my waterfalls and in between rocks. I cut strips of pantyhose (like a ponytail holder) for the ties, take the moistened plant out of the pot, place down into pantyhose leg cut the right length, take one of the ties to tie the bottom tightly, then tie the top where the plant comes out tightly to keep soil in and place these little pockets of flowering goodness in between the cracks of the rocks that stay wet waterfalls etc. They will grow so well. I live in zone 7b and even after our winter deep freeze my impatients came back this year. God bless 😊
I thought the planting instructions for aquatic and bog plants were very informative when the pond experts explained it in Laura's video. Your idea of the pantyhose plantings is a great one as well.
That iron gate you had made is stunning. I think now you have had all this area redone you should also copy the iron railings on the front steps of the house on your back sun porch steps. It would look amazing now everything is so formal
Good morning, Laura ☕️ Everything is coming together so nicely! I’m waiting on drone footage from Aaron! He was so right with adding large 🌲 🌳 They sure make a huge difference! Have a Blessed Day 😊🐈
No matter how many photos I could collect, or articles I could read, I could NEVER make my property look as amazing as you can. I sincerely enjoy your talent AND family. God Bless
I think you need to take us on a ride by the pond on a daily basis before getting on with your next project. 😘 Just love seeing your beautiful, new pond area!
The pond adds so much magic 🪄 I can’t tell you how entertaining it is and how much beauty the berms add as well and having koi fish and the shark it’s just so awesome. Can’t wait to see the ecosystem that you create in the next couple years !
Bear in mind that I am not a pond expert, but I have grown up in the swamps of eastern North Carolina. In eastern North Carolina and South Carolina, we have what are referred to as black water rivers. The water is the color of tea due to the tannins that leach from the trees in the water and growing on the banks of the rivers. It is just a natural occurrence, and the water is not polluted.
Earlier this summer, I visited Tahquamenon Falls in Tahquamenon Falls State Park in the upper pennisula of Michigan. The nickname for the falls is "Root Beer Falls" because the tannins in the river make the falls look the color of root beer. They were gorgeous!
Actually, I really like the tint of the pond - it looks more authentic to me. To see you giving your children a place to grow and thrive much like the home you grew up in is such a joy - what wonderful memories they will have!!
Good morning to you n yours. Been waiting on this as I guess many have. Boom this area has had major change with much more to come. Thanks for sharing from Mount Gambier, STH Australia. Cheers guys 😉❣️💋
Aaron and Laura! Doesn't the pond enhance your yard enjoyment soo much! Question: how far away can you hear the waterfall or running water? From your new patio? Or is it truly a secret area where you don't hear it until you go over to that area? Love it so much, so happy you finally got your pond 😊
Maurican I’m testifying to the goodness of God in 2016 I came down with leukemia, I was told for 3 years I wouldn’t live .It is 2023 never never never give up ! Praying for you ❤🙏🏻
I'm transferred to your beautiful garden every morning during by coffee time and loving every minute of it. Thank you for sharing your blessings with us all. God is soooo good all the time.
I planted Crazy Blue Russian Sage five years ago and it is awesome! It's about 30 inches tall and stays very upright for me with no flopping. Gorgeous super bright blue/purple blooms. Be careful because it gets much bigger than the tag says!
No doubt Aaron is looking forward displaying Christmas lights all around the pond on those gorgeous evergreen trees. :) Love all your videos so much but gotta say the vids that include anything pond related are my new favorites! Blessings and grace to you all. Kim
THE MOST inspirational You Tube channel out there ever for us who wanna dob yard art like Laura in a smaller space. You have giving us spirit and promise everyday while following your tutorials of plant needs, plant locations, tree locations, foundation structures of walkways, pathways, trellises, gazebos arches, ponds, I feel so blessed to have been following for years and learning so important plant saving skills or plant removal skills. Every single episode is inbedded in my brain as extreme knowledge and no one can ever imagine how you have helped me in my younger years .
So fun watching Laura enjoy this new area of the garden, it’s so different from the more formal parts of the garden 😀🥰 The natural garden style feels so relaxing, like you’re visiting a beautiful national park or something! I love both styles very much! I’m really happy to see the children enjoying the pond, I knew they would 😊🐟🌊🤿👙🏊♀️
I needed this today. Been out in the humidity for a few hours and decided to call it a day, even though there is so much more to do. Came inside, sat under a ceiling fan and watched this video. Now I am recharged and ready to go back out and finish the garden jobs. As always, thanks Laura!
I love how you are trying to keep the plantings natural around the pond. I think Daylily’s, Baptista, Liatris, and Amsonia would be pretty and natural looking plants that would look really good tucked in somewhere around it.
I love the way the pond turned out, a secluded place, a hideaway, loving it - a secret garden. All the pine trees and plants really makes that area come alive, not only the pond!! 🌊🌲🌲🌲🎄🎄🎄 Great job!
So relieved to hear Laura is turning the corner to boulders. I'm hoping she will continue the new landscape style all the way over to the barn as if her established tamed high desert area has begun to transition into the Malheur Natural Forest, thus keeping continuity with what she has brilliantly just introduced. Thinking of the driveway as I84. It's great that she is respecting the vibe by keeping the plantings more to the native flora feel. I'm curious if she will take the opportunity the more natural pond area provides and solve her problem of what to put in her formal center in front of the Hartley. It could be a large Crane taking flight. Samantha would surely love it since she already loves flamingos. What an exciting phase.
I had no filtration in my 10 x 9 pond. Every year, I would clean it out, put new water in, and wait for it to turn green. As long as I was patient, it resolved itself with the shade from the pond plants. Just need to have patience. 🤩
Laura, You are definitely a landscape artist! I love that you have the opportunity to work and create in a completely different, mountain-like terrain mere steps away from your house! It’s glorious. I think I may be loving watching you play and get your creative juices flowing as much as you are in doing it! Magical!!
u could never guess, how much pleasure, fun, knowledge, heart warming family dynamics u bring to this platform. i never imagined to follow anyone on a daily basis, but mother earth knows, i do. thank u so much for your content and your joy and failure that you so willingly share. we get something good from it eitherway. keep being so authentic in that plastic world- though you might could not act in any other way. much love from berlin. it´s time for merch.
just when you think "what else can they do?" Laura brings us another great planting video !!! It has been an incredible adventure and I pray it continues for years to come !!! Thanks, as always, for sharing it all with us - sharing the info, the inspiration, the encouragement and the gratitude ❤
Laura, you finally have the conture you so craved in your garden. I'm so happy for you. I remember how excited you were, for hartley area been a level down from the patio area, and no you have berms and a pond.
Aweee so beautiful! I’ve been thinking, ever since the pond went in, that’s my style. The trees, the rocks, the water, I’m changing into a wilderness kind of gardener. Cottagey, boxwoods, hydrangeas near the house. Yep. That’s my favorite view.
I love this so much! I love how the pond area went from being the least visited part of the garden, to one of the most visited! Even though it was nice before with all the boxwoods, removing them was like ripping the bandaid off! People need to understand in their own garden, it’s ok to totally change an area, move plants around, so you can enjoy the area!
What a beautiful replacement to the ring of boxwoods, remembering it was a difficult choice to remove them. The pond is beautiful in a perfect location. Love watching you place new plants around and looking forward to seeing the walkway. So sweet to see Benjamin and Samantha's bikes sitting nearby. What a wonderful place to be able to grow up in, gardens are beautifully designed, the Hartley standing in the center for everyone's eyes to see it's absolute beauty, every addition is the hardwork of Laura an Aaron. Thank you for always giving us the opportunity to enjoy your evolving gardens.
I just went to Mackinac Island this week and absolutely loved it! Thank you Laura for always showing us and informing us on the things you do. I was soooo excited to see the secret garden and it was GORGEOUS. Not to mention the grand hotel was absolutely gorgeous and huge. Thank you again
Crushing on Russian Sage lately - and this variety, against those rocks/boulders, looks phenomenal. I can't wait to see it grow in! Thanks for showing snapshots of the full size of the plants during the introduction, that really helps me visualize it!
Cozy takes time in a large space. I'd be going for a walk in the woods near me to connect with how the plants there naturally arrange thameslves. There's lots going on in a forest including lots of ground cover.
A new space is always exciting, so many possibilities and chances to use new plant material that might not work in existing areas. You can tell Laura is having fun with this one!
Watching you plant in time-lapse looks like an Olympic event - Speed Gardening. I The surgical neatness with which you place things in the ground is a study in efficiency. Very satisfying.😊
Hi Laura🌺 every thing looks so pretty near the pond all the trees looks so beautiful around the pond also the plants and you can add more lilies around the pond . Have awonderful day .🌻🌺🌻
A peek at the gorgeous pond, thanks Laura. It's going to be phenomenal when it comes together. You are right, boulders and berms does change a landscape in a lovely way.🇬🇧💕
Have you ever considered adding some milkweed in strategic places? Around the pond would be the ideal area. They are actually very pretty plants, and what a great thing to encourage monarch butterflies. Plus the kids would get to watch the butterflies develop.
Don’t do it! I have milkweed coming up everywhere in my garden and lawn. I have never seen a Monarch butterfly here and I live in dry, south central Washington-very similar climate to Laura’s garden. Wish I’d never planted that first milkweed. 😣
I think boulders would look great and anchor some of your plantings in the south garden. You have many evergreens and boulders look natural with them.❤
Looking at this area, reminds me of a little footbridge my neighbors put in….when it was placed, nothing about it made sense…no water no path, no plantings. Ten years later it’s a favorite feature to view, still no water or stream but the surprise and impact is so cool. The plantings around it are gorgeous and makes a picturesque spot in the garden. This pond area is gonna b AMAZING in a land of dusty soil and flat fields. It already is! Well done!
Just beautiful❣️ Laura is it safe to say you don’t miss that rustic arch and boxwoods area now🥰 What a transformation and great area for the family! It reminds me of spots in the Colorado mountain areas. I could almost sit there all day. I see you have one Adirondack chair. Will you be doing 2 there or a little seating area?
With all these trees, shrubs, and perennials in your new pond, you should install a plant sign to ID them all in one location with an image of each one like national parks do. It’ll also be good for future garden tours if you host in your area. It’s all looking fantastic.
So sweet to see you in your element, planning and planting! You picked some beautiful plants/trees, and makes me feel like my garden stands a chance because they’re not Proven Winners! Lol! I have the hardest time finding PW plants and feel like I’m settling for second best when it’s not a PW plant! Silly, I know, but it’s great to see you plant from other companies.
PW plants are not better. Their marketing department is. There are many dupes of PW plants without their trademark and cost. It IS silly to think you're "settling" when you can grow a plant that is just as lovely. Once that plant leaves it's white pot and gets in the ground, nobody and nothing (including the worms, deer, bunnies, pollinators, sun, soil and rain) knows the difference. Don't get caught up in the "designer" aspect of it.

That's beautiful
Beautiful comment, I feel exactly the same !!! This is mental health for many of us. ONE DAY / LIFETIME we will be doing the same things. KEEP SEEKING, KEEP KNOCKING, KEEP ASKING !!!!!! 💥🥰🙌💕💥
Laura..."I think I'm turning the corner to boulders in my garden" 😂🤣 Definitely the quote of the day
I am so glad, because I think the rocks add so much beauty and interest. And I kind of would cock my head in questioning when Laura would say rocks aren’t natural in that landscape. Yea, boulders and maybe berms. Love rocks and boulders surrounded by flowers. The pond is so lovely.
Indeed! And Laura’s also ‘turning the corner’ on berms! 👏
If she was thinking of gardens where the boulder or rock is just plopped on top of the ground it doesn’t feel natural at all and I could see why she didn’t want them. I've read that the slightly higher acidity that the tannins create also helps to stimulate the fish to breed.
Good to know, thank you for sharing 😊
It is a completely different terrain. I’m loving this journey. 😊
Would those tannins also give an 'instant' tan to those wading in? 😊
interesting.

Yes!!! I agree…I feel disappointed the days we don’t get to see that beautiful pond. I would never grow tired of seeing it. 😊
I can’t get enough of this new pond area! ❤❤❤ it’s already amazing but can you imagine what it’s going to look like even just a year from now!!
Looks nice! You should get some reeds or cattails and rushes in and around the pond so the dragonflies can live there....they're good for the gardens!
Cattails are the devil!! They take over!!!
I keep going back to the first day of pond building. I can't believe the difference. I love love love it.

Yes and a statue of a crane may keep the herons away so they don’t eat her fish.
I had no filtration in my 10 x 9 pond. Every year, I would clean it out, put new water in, and wait for it to turn green. As long as I was patient, it resolved itself with the shade from the pond plants. Just need to have patience. 🤩
Have I not been paying attention? Love that the Gator has a shade roof. Oh! And the Adirondack by the pond is perfect.👍
I do wish I could come there and spend the whole day strolling around in your gardens. 🚶🏻♀️🪻🪷🌺💦🌲🌳
I wish I could just work right along side of Laura but I doubt I could keep up! Lol She is amazing!
Glad to see I’m not the only one who throws spent foliage in the planting hole (with the bluestem)!
The pond just keeps getting better as you add plants 🪴 to it! 😀
Having the boulders adds a special interest that pulls you in and makes you want to see what is over there. Love it great choice
The surgical neatness with which you place things in the ground is a study in efficiency. Very satisfying.😊
“Turning the corners to boulders” haha. I love boulders and have them in my landscaping too and love them! The pond area is so, so beautiful.
Hi Laura🌺 every thing looks so pretty near the pond all the trees looks so beautiful around the pond also the plants and you can add more lilies around the pond . Have awonderful day .🌻🌺🌻
I agree completely the Angel Falls Eastern Pine is perfection! Love that structure!
I would've loved to see her Mom's and Sister's reaction 👏.
Horrah, best pond ever❤
Good morning Laura! Love the joy you have for your garden! Looking forward to more harvesting, and the roses moved in the fall. Hugs from N.C..❤️
I'm loving the boulders. Giving a real PNW vibe. Being originally from Seattle, I can really appreciate the look. I miss it. Beautiful pond area!
I think boulders would look great and anchor some of your plantings in the south garden. You have many evergreens and boulders look natural with them.❤
I agree
“Nobody walks here” cheddar walks there. I love the cats! 😂❤
It was Russell.
Beautiful, the plants really make the pond look it's best!
I love the huge boulders in a garden they look great
Laura you are making everything look so amazing you know just the right place to put it looks so awesome
Please let us spend a few quiet moments looking at the pond. I miss my pond which was so tiny compared to yours but it was my meditation place.
Everything is coming along so beautifully 👌😊🌿👏🌱🌲🌳
With all these trees, shrubs, and perennials in your new pond, you should install a plant sign to ID them all in one location with an image of each one like national parks do. It’ll also be good for future garden tours if you host in your area. It’s all looking fantastic.
Love that when planting the grass you composted the waste in place!!!💙
@@ritasicari7518 excellent advice, thank you for saying this!
Me too. I always look for PW but can't find them. I did find a double begonia but another brand. It's beautiful.
In no time you will have the pond area fully planted and it will fill and look like it was always there.
Such a good day to start with! Grabbing my tea sit back and relax.
Beautiful! You're such a hard worker. God bless.
Good evening from Western Australia. Loving the pond updates.
Hi Imy name is Riley and i am seven and I watch your show with my grandma and when I grow up I want a flower garden like yours
Thanks again, for taking us on more planting around the magnificent pond area.
The Angel Falls Pine is like a garden sculpture. 💚
Lots of pretty views.... lots of hard work. ❤️❤️
Laura such a beautiful area already. Yes the boulders are adding such a great look. Such a peaceful place to gather your beautiful family.❤
@Dm_On_Tele.gram--GardenAns can't wait to see what it is..
I have not heard anything. But I still love all your videos and information on everything. Take care.
Wow! Laura just announced you are A SCAM. Report to the business bureau. Stop sending me your junk mail.
Good Morning!! Absolutely beautiful Laura and Aaron!!❤
