      I started learning how to fly back in 2006-2007 and I kept crashing which were expensive lessons, and ultimately led to my ex-wife and I having a lot of static that had never existed before. Now, like you, I fly only planes with a gyro even with the skill. I think at the intermediate to advanced skill level there is a need for confirmation of skill driven by an urge to prove oneself. When you get older, it's not so important.

    • @janmb
      @janmb 3 года назад +6

      And aside from safety, it also makes models look a lot larger and more realistic than they otherwise would. For those caring about their models looking as much as possible like the real thing, a gyro is really a must. Nothing ruins the scale impression like a beautiful model with tons of nice scale details being tossed around like a leaf. And no pilot in the world can remedy that.

    If a gyro is cheating how come almost every Aircraft in the military inventory uses them? Anything that helps control and smooth flight is a help,not a cheat . If a person decides they are better off with out one that is there personal choice.

    I concur, I also believe in the use of a gyro. If you don't have it you can't use it, but it is there if you need it. If I am flying something and I am trying to get comfortable with it then I am going to use it until my confidence tells me otherwise. Some guys make it seem like if anyone finds out they have used stabilization they will lose their man card 😀😀😀

  • @lesliemiller5980

    Every plane with a Spektrum (AS3X type) receiver pre-installed has the basic gyro built into it, and if you bind Safe-select mode you have control limits for beginners. I don't hear any clamor about that! With a gyro you can buy a low $ receiver and have the same trainer mode and AS3X style stabilization. I get my gyros on ebay for 10 to 15 bucks and I don't have to pony up the $$$ for Spektrum receivers.

    My father as a commercial airline Captain and military pilot flew with gyros in his planes and never once complained that he wasn't flying by the seat of his pants.
    His comment was they just kept his butt in line with where he wanted to go!.
    Flew private and military warbirds also on the side and would always use a gyro if one was available.
    If good enough for my professional pilot dad then also good enough for me as a r.c. pilot!.

    Auto level doesn't only have to be used as a trainer feature for beginners either. We all have those moments where we get disorientated. The auto level can be used as an "oh shit" switch as well. So therefore gyros are a great safety feature.
    My favourite gyro is the hobby eagle A3 Super 3 and it saves me money on expensive receivers because I can control everything through the gyro using the S.bus feature. It's great. And for flying scale in wind it really helps improve the scale look. A full size wouldn't get bounced around in wind unless it was so windy that no sensible pilot wouldn't fly in it. Tornado in the back ground for example lol

    Been in and out of rc's for the last 40 years but all land-based. Always wanted to give flying a go, but didn't want to invest so much money only to crash it on it's maiden flight. With the advent of gyros, I'm finally edging closer to biting the bullet. I've got my eye on the Flightline P-51D 850mm since it's a bit simpler with no rudder (but can be added later), and the price is right.

    Will it smooth out the video taken from the plane? All plane videos I've seen look pretty shaky.

    • @MotionRC
      @MotionRC  2 года назад

      It will help, but also a lot of shakiness comes to the type of camera and how that camera is mounted. The plane could be flying smooth but the camera could be loose with velcro and wobbling, or the camera doesn't have any internal anti-shake like a go pro. A gyro will 100% make wind less of factor when set up correctly, but there are many factors that go into to properly mounting a camera on an rc plane.

      Most gyros only smooth out the bumps in rough air (like AS3X). Some gyros also have heading hold which keeps your plane in the attitude it was in when you centered the sticks (most Spektrum AS3X receivers have it). And some gyros have bank/pitch limiting and self-leveling (like Spektrum's AS3X/SAFE receivers).
