I would expect that changing these settings with a PowerShell script should be easier. It might also allow to enable settings witch have a "not" in their description.
Thio, I think it's time to make your content a bit more spicy: A soft background music that trademarks you, (examples are like Vsauce or Veritasium's) and an intro of your liking that is also memorable to your viewers (LinusTechTips if you're into animated intros). Believe me when I say this will improve your total watchtime with these small cues that helps to entertain people while watching your content.
Would be cool to actually teach us which of those GPs would be useful to enable/disable as a normal user. Like disabling bloatware features, Cortana, etc.
A lot of those setting have not much with personal computers, because it's a lot with active directory. If this is done in a corporate environment, it is very bad. 😅
Automation works only in formatted text (or something like json/yaml) and stdin/out. GUI is the worst possible option for automation of tasks which you can automate with shell/console.
The program is not doing OCR (optic character recognition), it is looking up the Win32 GUI elements. And it worked. He said that he was having issues doing that with Powershell.
Many of the settings are actually a negative ("prevent", "turn off") so they actually had to be enabled to take effect. This would be more difficult with so many settings though.
@@terasestHammasratas yeah, on my school device every new window I open goes to the school website. I have random websites blocked at certain times, even school ones for some reason. When I was in high school they had completely locked down the start menu and the only buttons on it were the Log Off button and the My Documents button. Forced classic theme and you couldn’t even right click anything. These were running XP.
@@terasestHammasratas I believe that was limited to just the start menu, taskbar, and desktop. You could right click but nothing would happen. Dude, you know what is funny? I actually had a Windows 7 VM and actually did the same thing too way before you uploaded this video 🤣. (sad part was that I took the time to do it all myself. It took half an hour)
i wanted to ask a question that my laptop gets stuck whenever i download or install something on my laptop for example i tried to download genshin imapct or fortnite or like who's your daddy,i tried my best but still the problem is there what can i do?
I actually had a person attempt to hack my computer in the first thing they did was lock me out with a bunch of group policy at her settings making it to where I couldn't install anything.
Hey joe please make a video on the software Driver easy. It seems to be great but I still doubt installing it, therefore it would be great if you review it. Thanks in advance.

No
They ask for a lot of detailed information, but didn't seem to be configured for independently contracted computer support.
Now time to do the opposite and enable them all and see what happens xD Great video as always
@Armando Aranda I'd rather leave it to a person worth watching ^^

I was thinking the same thing
well is it the default setting?

why spend 10 minutes manually doing something when you can spend 10 hours trying to automate it?
In this case it would have taken way longer and cost me a case of carpel tunnel lol. 4300 settings
why create photoshop when everyone has mspaint
why does the Firewall in my PC produce the smell of burnt plastic?
why use video editing software when you can screenshot 1000 times?
Why do I need Google Chrome when I could just use the Edge browser?
I learned more about automation than about the actual experiment which is a win win situation!

One short test you should have done with this... restart the computer. :) Especially if you have to log in after boot.
This! A lot of GPO entries are for the computer, not the user. And for a lot of them, a restart is needed
For repairing this, safe mode also works. The Group policies aren't enforced in safe mode, but you can still edit the policies.
I would expect that changing these settings with a PowerShell script should be easier. It might also allow to enable settings witch have a "not" in their description.
Definitely, i found some powershell commands but didn't understand enough to be able to use them

Goodbye Theo , i switched to Linux mint today , it was a pleasure learning from you.

Your videos are very interesting! Keep up good work!
Video idea:
Removing the super administrator, administrator and standard user. Leaving only the guest user.
With all the group policy settings set to their correct values 😂

Do u have any rescources for that one?
Automation definitely works in GUI, not sure what you're talking about. It's not ideal, but you DEFINITELY don't need formatted text

Hey, you successfully recreated the locks a school would use on a school device. Nonsensical changes for no reason, just to be annoying

4:32 - Whew, I love that crusty icon. That surely is something.
You officially made the 2023 School Computers
VM: you make me suffer
ThioJoe: forgets to use vm
Also VM: uno reverse

I like how one of the policies was Disallow to run inkball
I finally found what teachers do to the school computers. 😂😂
Schools setting up computers:
You can just hear how much he's enjoying doing the voiceover!
Didn't expect such a video from you today
I came for the title, you had me at your automation
That might be the first sponsor spot that's ever peaked my interest.
I also disabled many running services now my ram consumption is only 800-900mb. I m happy.
A lot of schools that use Windows do this for their student accounts. i.e windows 10 education licence, then editing the group policy editor so students would have more restrictions.
Did not know about Power Automate. That is pretty cool.
“The universe crashes”
You should try enabling everything.
Haha, the USB cant be stopped by Group Policys!
My school used it to disable LEFT CLICKING
The hell
Nice video. Nice thinking
Maybe you could try to disable all Windows Services, however I would actually do that on a VM.
So you can change a closed system to an open system by copying an open group permission file over a closed system group permission file.
I subscribed, I'm here from Linus
4:34 What happened to the X icon
My school has definitely watched this video😂
Most group policies use that reverse wording, so enabling the policy is what restricts the computer/user further. -Domain Admin
Enabled Change the behavior as described in the title of the group policy.
Disabled Do not change the behavior and continue with the default behavior.
Not configured Let somebody else decide.
Sauce: Raymond Chen's Old New Thing.
Linus tech tips shouted out your program!!!!!
You could fix that by running the safe mode where group policy settings don't apply.
I saw several entries for "Account Unknown" in the Registry when clicking on Permissions so I started to delete them - that soon crashed my PC and when rebooting into Windows none of the options would work. I had to go into Recovery and find a System Restore date to get back a working machine!
Thanks!
Thanks, Ive done this to my school laptop
Good to know
Now what happens when you shut down all proceses with task manager
>Do not allow inkball to run
capitalism truly is cruel
nice one Joe
LMAO, it's like you made yourself a guest user
You should try enabling all the settings ad see the result
Trial and error like, Disable access to Group Policy Editor, check........ Damn start again.
Excellent geek exercise. I will never do it. Thanks.
Joe, what is the background you are using on your PC?
Can you break a pc in a way that only lets you enter Safe Mode/Normal Mode, but not Normal Mode/SM?
Weird, but interesting.
Thanks!
Disabling Cortana? Sign me up!
Great day
Some settings you have to enable then in the drop down disable
i want to disable windows defender completely, tell me what politics and registries i need to delete or disable to disable windows defender?
you're still behind a NAT firewall from your router, even with windows firewall disabled
My schools laptops have nearly all the group policy enabled
I disable edge in group policy and it corrupted my ssd. Had to reinstall windows and wipe the boot drive.
Q. What do You get when You lock down EVERYTHING?!
A. a Macbook!! ;)
i added group policy on my computer. it will not let me change it back. anyone know how to disable group policy?
Ye Widgets do have a setting there but it only deactivates them partially from what I remember
We all love a bit of tinkering here and there ;)
Banger video
Hi I need to build a MINI network business, can you make a video for the best cheapest equipment for that

Hey ThioJoe i really want to try something out and that is to what if you break the windows boot by using msconfig?
Dude, you know what is funny? I actually had a Windows 7 VM and actually did the same thing too way before you uploaded this video 🤣. (sad part was that I took the time to do it all myself. It took half an hour)
Roses are red, errors are blue, I think I deleted System32
8:30 I called it. 😂🤣
So that's how they set up the school laptops!
...and then the last setting was "allow disabling all Group Policies at once"
Ohhh, so you turned it into a school computer!
"do not let inkball run" NOOOOOOO
Time to enable everything...
So if you were able to easily copy the grouppolicy folders from your backup. Then the setting to lock group policy from being accessed is useless
i wanted to ask a question that my laptop gets stuck whenever i download or install something on my laptop for example i tried to download genshin imapct or fortnite or like who's your daddy,i tried my best but still the problem is there what can i do?
ThioJoe uses Windows 11
Disabling a "prevent" policy won't do what you think it does.
Next up enable all of them :D
how this effect running processes number?
i disable everything i dont want like windows defender i turn that off so i dont lose my performance while i game and windows updates
Not configured to disabled
Now from disabled to enable pls
I actually had a person attempt to hack my computer in the first thing they did was lock me out with a bunch of group policy at her settings making it to where I couldn't install anything.
Your now a unofficially automation qa engineer for win11 🤪
2:47 is not included by default here on Winsows 10. Maybe on Windows 11?
How was the performance? Was it better or worse?
Next try enabling everything
You should do enable instead of disable
No memory/perf changes after disabling all that? Were some of the services shut down? Was the UI snappier?
Fucking everyone has a sponsorship these days, it's like watching fucking cable TV jesus.
