The nostalgia I felt when that screenshot of S3&K popped up at 0:40. I didn't even know what a Genesis was back then, but I asked my dad if I could play Sonic on the family PC almost every day.
I've honestly played this version for so long to the point that there were a lot of features I completely forgot were added in the romhack and not in the original.
I remember once when playing through Marble Garden Zone Act 1, I accidentally got the 100,000 point time bonus, as in I wasn't even paying attention to how the time was running out. It was amazing to see this for the first time. Realistically, though, unless you like going for high score runs of the game (And who actually does that?), the 9:59 time bonus is pretty underwhelming. Also, this was an amazing video on what S3K Complete is! I've been playing this ROM hack as my main source for S3K for the better part of a year now, and there was a lot that you went over in pretty good detail that I never knew/understood, like the S3K Collection theme changes. It is definitely a godsend for those whose number one favorite game is Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
You are lucky, because the PC songs were actually the original ones. In the Prototype from November 13th, 1994, you can see that there are no traces of Michael Jackson and that all of the PC songs are there! And they sound a lot better, too!

Larry Bundy Jr it took me a minute to realize what you actually asked lol and i recall that when i played sonic 3 complete they didn’t really do anything with the drum at all
The music in the pc port wasn't changed for legal reasons, it was changed because of the way the midis worked, sorry if this comment has been made 1,000, 000 times, just thought id say
I was planning on posting this as well, but you beat me to it. The fact that even Knuckles' theme was changed along with all of the other tracks - even though it was already changed in _Sonic & Knuckles_ - leads credence to this thought.
There is a mod to add SMPSPlay which gives you back the original SMPS music from the genesis. It also has the bonus of including Genesis versions of the PC version's music and the entire soundtrack from S1, S2, S3D.
The PC disc release was actually my first exposure to Sonic 3. I got it when I was very young and played it through to the end, something that I rarely did back then. So I grew up on the changed songs and midi sound, it's supremely nostalgic to me and it's what I think of first when I think of sonic 3. I can't help but love it so maybe ease up on the criticism ;o
What's your reaction when the PC tracks turned to be the original tracks all along? :) Check out the the Sonic Nov, 1993 prototype if you're wondering what I mean.
The funniest thing is how everyone thought the versions of Carnival Night, Ice Cap and Launch Base in the PC collection were basically just bootleg themes, but it was then revealed that they were there before the new ones and everyone was shocked
I really love the S&K logo too. I had a set of pyjamas when I was a kid which were all black with a large Sonic & Knuckles logo on the chest. So awesome.
MJ and his team had likely begun work on the soundtrack months before the prototype. It’s more likely that those prototype songs were created as placeholders while they tried to figure out what to do about the music, considering how sloppy they sound and how unfitting they are stylistically compared to the rest of the soundtrack. And the team clearly didn’t think they were good enough to use in the final game since they went with the MJ tracks anyway
SuperMariofan 1992 It really doesn’t, the prototype tracks are so stylistically different from the rest that it’s clear they were done by different composers. You’re the one who’s kidding yourself
@@LongSinceDead1 It's actually reverse bud. The prototype tracks are composed by the same people who did the rest of the soundtrack(Jun Senue for example), while the final tracks aren't. Listen closely to the instrumentation of tracks like Carnival Night Act 2 prototype and Ice Cap Act 1 and 2 prototype, they use the same instruments from other tracks in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Carnival Night Act 2 prototype uses Desert Palace(2P mode) instruments in that track and IceCap Act 1 and 2 prototype use the same instrumentation as the Sphere minigame music from Sonic & Knuckles. The prototype music alligns more with what you expect of a style of music Sonic normally does, not generic music. Unlike the final tracks, The prototype tracks actually has unique Act 2 remixes, which the rest of the Sonic 3 & Knuckles soundtracks do in the zones. Carnival Night Act 2 prototype literally did a transition remix the same way how Hydrocity Act 2 did to Act 1. How does the the prototype tracks not align with the rest of the soundtrack while knowing this? You're the one kidding yourself.
@@thesmbthemeguy5007 a sonic 3 official port would never be close to as customizable as sonic 3 complete that's not something anyone should except nor does the lack of it make it bad lol its still the best official version of sonic 3
What? Why bring up the outdated version? Why not Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Battle & Knuckles Gems Mania Advance Adventure 7 3HDS, the definitive re-remake remastered?
Yes, IIRC, this S&K came out relatively late in the lifecycle of the Genesis and the 32x was the last console that Sega released that used carts. It's sort of like that enhancement chip, it came out so late that there wasn't really much that could be done with it.
I've been watching Cybershell ever since I got taken away from my mom and put into foster care. Luckily, I'm back with her now after 5 long years and I come back to these old videos all the time. I literally know every single image and word of these videos because of how much I used to watch them to forget the fact that I was in an uncomfortable environment at the start, but luckily I ended up getting used to it and they were nice to me, but after a while I ended up realizing it wasn't as good as it seemed. I'm like 15 by now and now that I've returned, I feel amazing!
This was "Let's play Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Bonus Video #1"! That "other" bonus video was "Let's play Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Bonus Video #2"! There ya' go! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to watch CyberShell give empty apologies to Sega as he jumps through Sonic 3 & Knuckles!
I was one of the blue sphere guys, I always tried to get to final blue sphere level, I managed to finish every level I could on perfect score, you know collecting all the rings on each level, I kind of got bored on the 250 something level, then I realized that there could be millions of levels so I gave up, but hell it was fun.
Wanted to mention Sonic 3 A.I.R., but see you made a description edit. Which, well - yyyup, _that_ is now the ultimate way of playing Sonic 3. Bar none, nothing even comes close.
Nice that he added a 2020 edit that gives us a link to Sonic 3 AIR. I always wondered if he were to make a video about AIR if he came back but now I guess he doesn't have to.
Wait, he literally doesn't even need to make a video because AIR has several changes that were also made in Complete so he'd basically be repeating himself if he were to talk about AIR but of course addressing the widescreen and mods.
Another odd difference between Sonic 3 and 3&K is that in 3 alone, Super (not Hyper) Sonic can use the Bubble Shield's bounce ability, but in 3&K he can't.
this is very new news but the music used the PC version's Carnival Night Zone, Ice Cap and Launch Base actually came from an earlier prototype of Sonic 3, so they basically fall back to the original and refined it for the S&K Collection so to speak.
I actually remember playing that PC one back in the 90s. The music was definitely different indeed. I also remember seeing glimpses of this rom hack in a video that briefly talked about it because he was talking about a bunch of things so I'm happy to see this video that talked about it into more detail
Easy nerfs the level design, and only makes you play one act per zone. (Meaning you can't get the super emeralds) And Normal has some of the nerfed level design that easy mode has, but not as much. Plus you can play all of the levels. One more thing. In both Easy and Normal, the special stages NEVER speed up. They stay the same speed for the whole stage.
@We Are the Gamers It's not more customizable. It has better graphics, aspect ratio, audio, and the drop dash, but not more than that. The only way that you can make A.I.R better is with mods. If we are talking about the vanilla A.I.R, complete wins.
@We Are the Gamers nah. If Euyakrot hired team Sonic 3 Complete then it would be better (and hopefully it will be in mobile phones because you have to pay to get S3&K on steam.)

Oh hey there buddy
Oh hello
Thank god you said that. It's really annoying to correct everyone
But to anyone else but you the songs are fucking garbage so it’s kinda hard not to hate what to us, is trash.
So awesome.

Sonic clearly sad *ow!* when hitting an enemy.

He says that the PC version replaced the MJ music, and now we know the MJ music replaced the PC music.
MJ and his team had likely begun work on the soundtrack months before the prototype. It’s more likely that those prototype songs were created as placeholders while they tried to figure out what to do about the music, considering how sloppy they sound and how unfitting they are stylistically compared to the rest of the soundtrack. And the team clearly didn’t think they were good enough to use in the final game since they went with the MJ tracks anyway
everybody gangsta till wilbert awdry comments (ik he isnt wilbert stfu)
@@LongSinceDead1 The prototype music alligns more with the rest of the soundtrack than the final tracks. You're only kidding yourself.

I'm blue sphere guy. I'm playing s1+s&k EVERY FUCKING DAY. Really i will never get bored...
I just really could not stand hearing that theme music over & over. It still haunts me to this day, ever I rest my head

I always wondered if he were to make a video about AIR if he came back
but now I guess he doesn't have to.
Wait, he literally doesn't even need to make a video because AIR has several changes that were also made in Complete so he'd basically be repeating himself if he were to talk about AIR but of course addressing the widescreen and mods.
I was just about to comment about that since most people don't check the description
Well my lotsa spaghetti notification alarm woke me up and it was this video.
It’S fRoM bOwSeR!

This video was made before the Prototype was discovered and before Cybershell hibernated
Eh, refined isn't the right word, more like horribly ruin in midi, but every thing else you said is correct. Also, he's back in case you didn't know.
I actually remember playing that PC one back in the 90s. The music was definitely different indeed.
I also remember seeing glimpses of this rom hack in a video that briefly talked about it because he was talking about a bunch of things so I'm happy to see this video that talked about it into more detail

Now sonic 3 air…
What do the Easy and Normal difficulty settings actually change?
Easy nerfs the level design, and only makes you play one act per zone. (Meaning you can't get the super emeralds) And Normal has some of the nerfed level design that easy mode has, but not as much. Plus you can play all of the levels. One more thing. In both Easy and Normal, the special stages NEVER speed up. They stay the same speed for the whole stage.
Dada0604 wow, so it is literally Sonic for babies. And one-act per zone, seriously? where is the fun in that?
