I was a subscriber already, but have to say that this kind of content means a big step forward in my opinion. Take you off the crowd. Harmony analysis and understanding the choices and paths that other guitarists took in their songs is a hard to find out there. Great choice for a first video (also agree that JP is underestimated on that regard) and I look forward for the next ones.
Thank you so much for analysing this song! Also don't worry about the similarity to the Beato videos. For a big prog fan like myself I'm always keen to learn more about my favourite bands. Octavarium is one of my favourite songs by them.. and it's truly a really special song. I've got a Dream Theater guitar book which contains added analysis and music theory sections . Ever since attempting to read some of it.. I've been in awe of how creative Dream Theater are. Say what you like, but there are not many bands out there who can write a 20 minute piece of music that can compare to this.
Hi Antoine, Very interesting! Analysis of great melodies and progressive songstructures is what i’m looking for! Already learned a lot with this one. Looking forward to the rest of your series! And thank you very much for the free minicourse!
Yes, this is the proper way to learn effectively. Thank you Antoine for elaborating the thinking process of great musicians. Please keep this content going. Maybe make it a bi-monthly event.
Great series Antoine. I’m currently taking a songwriting class and I am writing songs that have melodies to them. This is a big help to those who are looking for songs with great guitar melodies. Great job as always my friend.
Hi Antoine. I really enjoyed this lesson and your excellent breakdown. I'm looking forward to this new series of yours - I've no doubt I'll enjoy every episode. A song I'd really like you to do is "Man Of The World" by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. Even though it uses both major and minor chords, and a 6th occasionally, overall it's a very sad and melancholic sounding song and I'd love to see and hear your interpretation of it.
Please next video should be Shadow of the King by All The Bright Lights, little known but very beautiful and memorable. A must listen for fans of ambient guitar and post rock.
Yes! I made a solo cover of the end a while back (it's here: ruclips.net/video/RkXMnx2AZQs/видео.htmlsi=vk_A35KQg-VWIkth). One of my favorite guitar solos ever!
The opening is very soothing. A note of sadness, too. Excited for this new series!

Thank you! This is great. I love your enthusiasm and expertise as well.
you have a wonderful musical taste
Love that new series, Antoine. Very well done!
Wow, you've opened my eyes.
Really interesting topic. ❤ thank you

Thanks! I might do once a month, because I have many other topics I like to cover, but I definitely want to build this video series long term.
This is gold, thanks

The first seven notes are from a famous old classic song (name escapes me) but resolve to a different note.
God I love this song. And the end is amazing.

SUUPER LESSON
Always my favorite part of Dream Theater were their themes/motifs vs their ridiculous wankery haha.
