  • Daou is a pretty big producer from Paso Robles, and makes some amazing (and amazingly expensive) high-end wines, BUT, what does their base level wine have to offer? Is it worth drinking? Let's pop the cork on Daou's 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles on today's WINE LAB!

Would love to know where you find soul for 95$. Are you sure ur not mistaken it for the estate cab which is 95$ retail? I’m a 12 vin member and doesn’t have that price.

Nice job as always, Vince. Good discussion of Daou and of the Paso Robles AVA. Lots of limestone. You definitely get the terroir.

Thanks. Yeah I could dedicate my entire channel to Paso Robles wines and never run out of content, definitely need to do some more exploring. Great AVA.

Totally, their cabs are fantastic! I enjoyed a Member's Tasting when I was there, that came with the Chef's food pairings. Don't remember what it's called...

Daou is a good 20 dollar wine at Costco, I think it's perfect for having as a daily drinker/friends over/people pleaser wine.

Dauo is a staple at Costco. I cant remember the price but I have enough friends that buy it as a wine for get togethers.

Totally, I can see this being a general people pleaser. What are some of your go-to's ?

@@VINCEWINE I'm a varietal guy. For me syrah, malbec, albarino, nebbiolo, chardonnay, semillon and cabernet sauvignon are what I gravitate towards.
When Im shopping at Costco, I specifically look for the Kirkland Signature Series wines. They will be in a black bottle and rarely go above $20/bottle. These signature series wines are from all over. Ive even seen a Kirkland Signature Staggs Leap cab sauv.

The 2017 vintage was excellent! If you can still find it, get the $26 blend.

I agree, I'm really happy I gave it a second chance. Any other Daou recommendations?

Daou has some expensive wines. There Chardonnay and Cabernet are much cheaper at Trader Joe’s vs. directly from Daou winery. Is there a difference?

Yeah totally, I know when I visit their winery I'm tasting $100 wines, and they are pretty stellar. But for everyday drinking, I really don't mind wines like this Cab. It's a good buy.

With their Cabs…Daou pouches you square in the face, yet makes no apologies. I love it.
