- In this episode D introduces 5 Paso Robles Cabernets for less than $20.
These are the most recent vintages, mostly 2020 and 2021, only the Justin was a 2019.
D recommends the Daou and the Justin. Both Cabs are available for $19.95.
He also recommends the Double Black.
Thank you D. I really enjoy seeing you back behind a kitchen counter with bottles in front of you. I also really appreciate the reviews on more affordable wines. Cheers
Thanks Michael! I feel better with a lot of bottles in front of me as well!
Dietmar, I really enjoyed this video because it provides great insight on affordable alternatives to Napa Cabs from a trusted source. Great reviews and introductions to some wineries I hadn't heard of before as well as reviews on Paso Robles standard bearers like Justin and Daou. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video D! My favorite region is Paso Robles. Keep the Paso vids coming. I too prefer the Daou and the Justin...especially for the price. Will look for the Double Black next time I'm in TW. Salud!
Salud GM! Yes, try that Double Black.
Love your videos sir. I recently took over as wine buyer and my job. I've learned a lot from your videos. Daou and Justin are delicious Cabs.
Thanks Charles! Good luck in your new job!
Nice tasting, thank-you. There are also some good lower priced alternatives coming out of Washington State these days.
I have really enjoyed the Liberty School Reserve at $23 recently and the Paso from the Austin Hope family from around $20 as well.
Seeing more and more Paso here D, still think you'd really like My Favorite Neighbor Cab (~$45 here in NJ) and their slightly cheaper red blend label Harvey & Harriet (~$30) both by Booker wines who is allegedly "the next" Austin Hope rising star winemaker from the region
I am getting there
@@decantswithd glad to hear it, really enjoyed your latest video on Italian wines, you had a lot of my favorites on the table!!
I just did a weekend in Napa, but if you like the fruit forward “in your face” wins, Paso is as good as it gets. Agree on trying some higher end Paso. I tried Daou Soul of a Lion, Austin Hope Reserve, and Justin Isosceles Reserve. Amazing wines!
Totally agree! Those are some good wines.
Amazing video. Looking forward to tasting them. Try the Mina Mesa Cab Paso Robles. Earthy tones of the Old Southwest. Only $13 per bottle at Total Wine. $22 for the magnum. If you take advantage of the $15 off $75 winery direct deal you will get the magnum for $18.
Thanks
Another great video! I really enjoy the Justin and now will have to try the Dao too. You need to try the Double Black “Reserve”, it still costs less than the Justin and just as good.
Thanks Michael. Yes, get the Daou. Both 2020 and 2021 are recommendable.
Paso is the best! Do a high end Paso cab video!!!
In the works.
Which vineyards do you suggest?
Greay as usual. But you ned to do Austin Hope- now the highest rated Paso cab
Did it a few weeks ago.
Check it out!
What's your thoughts on 2018 Caymus Special selection? Looks like it is out now at reasonable prices. Good idea to buy some to hold/save/sell? Seems like with how highly rated the vintage is the SS is a good choice? Should probably go up in value a lot? Great episode too.
Have not tried the Caymus 2018 SS yet, but it should be a great buy.
