„Shanmuga Kavacham“, composed by Ganesh B. Kumar from Chennai, India, is the world’s first choral Mantra and the first ever large scale choral work from India to adorn the Western classical choral repertoire. The text in the Tamil language, which was written by the saint/poet Srimath Pamban Swamigal in 1891, is believed to be a shield or protection as its name suggests.
The World Premiere of “Shanmuga Kavacham“ - MANTRA MEETS CLASSIC - will be performed in choral a cappella style by the Chamber Choir of Europe, conducted by Nicol Matt, on the 20th of September 2015 in the Kurhaus in Wiesbaden, Germany, at 7 p.m.
This extraordinary German-Indian project makes it obvious that a far-reaching international understanding can be experienced on the basis of music.
