This is such a touching scene. I like how Nishimura knows that Takada is not intending to make fun of her like everyone else in their class, so she's perfectly fine with *_him_* calling her the "grim reaper."
Her nickname is kinda what brought them together

Takada really really felt sorry. Not every friend would feel that way.
This was perfect because this means for the rest of the show whenever hes calling her the grim reaper its because she ASKED him to!! If he was fully clueless before he literally proves in this that he's not anymore. He calls her cool here because she overcame any pain that nickname could cause her. Sure it was thanks to his help but hes always admired her for what she can do with or without him. I love this show so much!! I really hope we get another season!

@@senior-whiteI think it nearly happened in episode 12, around Christmas. Takada ended up falling for Akane. (Plus, I'm sure a few kids do fall in love sooner than later.)

He heard his classmates call her that and thought she had Grim Reaper powers. He thought it was cool, and wanted her to transfer some of her powers to him.

So it's fine with her when he calls the grim reaper.
It's because when Takada does it, he's not doing it out of disrespect - unlike all the other kids - and Nishimura knows that. He genuinely thinks it's a cool nickname. But since he had no idea that Nishimura's mother had passed away many years ago, he felt like he was blaming Nishimura for her mother's death. Which is why he's so down about it.
Is this a children's love story?
It's a story of childhood friendships and building bonds for the future. The main female character is bullied and shunned by everyone at her school ,until this little boy(new kid in school) becomes fascinated by the little girl's "Grim Reaper" nickname and befriends her; thus becoming her best friend.
@@themadthinker4291 Well said. It's not a simple romance of repeating gag comedy, as some thought this series would be. It's covers a pretty wide range of things, while still being cute and lighthearted in nature. If you watch the subbed version and/or read the manga, you know what I'm talking about.
They addressed this in the anime. And he stated he's not ready for relationship like that. Because he is still a kid. But he does love her. But understands he's a kid and rather be friends because he doesn't know how love works.
