I went rock hounding along a local river with my wife two days before the Wisconsin opener. She found some agates, I found some good deer sign. Never too late to check out a new piece of ground - you still got about 50 good deer hunting years left in you and you are playing the long game. Thank you for the fine content and good luck this fall.

I have a lot of spots like that too Josh. A fence line or ditch/tree line out in the middle of crop fields. what I battle with and I’m sure you do too is once the corn comes out those deer generally move on so it takes having alot of spots like that with an Oct 1 opener harvest is in full swing and those fields are disappearing by the day. But those spots can be great since the corn offers great security cover

Yep that's why I was talking about early season before the crops are out

I dont know what part of the state you are in, but looking at the crops, you must have had a LOT more rain. Corn and beans are coming down everywhere in SE Indiana. I may not have any standing corn to hunt by the time Oct. gets here. Deer are a lot more receptive to human intrusion in farm/Ag country vs. big timber deer. Farmers are out and about all the time….

It'll be fine... will probably rain tomorrow and wash your scent away anyway

I pray you are right about that rain prediction.

Thanks for sharing. What time of day and with what wind would you hunt that spot? Afternoon hunt with wind blowing out over the beans?

Yep or straight north. NW would be perfect

Wow! You can smell a buck in September?!? The boy is horned up early.

You can absolutely smell a deer in September. They lay around in the same areas and pee in their beds.

oh yeah anytime of the year....once you know the smell it hits you like a brick when you are near a bed

What's the percentage or odds of deer bedding on fingers like that? Like 10 out of 10

Very good when there is corn around it
