Ball plays on its own format. For him it's not a 5v5 but instead a 1v9

18:52 The problem is, to some, just losing the first point means the game is over, and if your team isn't stomping the enemy team into the spawn rooms, its GG. Thats something I learned from the OWL & watching streamers, is that the game is a lot longer then you realize. Just because you lost a point, lost a fight, doesn't mean the games over already. Wish more people pick up on that aspect.

Sombra of all people not understanding perceived vs actual value is hilarious

    • @andersj91
      @andersj91 Месяц назад +2

This is one spot where emongg goes a little wrong. If you're playing ball, tracer, genji, doom, or sombra, you should be attacking when the enemy team is distracted/facing your team. As a result, you should be getting EXTRA value compared to your teammates who are attacking head-on and are not benefiting from your immediate ability to peel/help sustain the 5 players facing them. If. A. You are not getting enough value/distracting well enough to offset the 4v5 you're creating, and the other team is not dying faster than yours, or B. you aren't able to aggressively peel to help sustain your other four members; you are in fact a net negative.
No, this ball isn't feeding, but they're playing a doom and not peeling AND getting less backline pressure than the doom. Not to mention incredibly poor ult usage. Should the lifewaver be a clown? No. But Emongg is talking about the support on the ball's team dying early... They're dying because Doom is getting more pressure than the ball AND the ball isn't peeling. That's a losing combination.
In the end, it ended up working out because the ball played well enough and the team played well enough, but the theory still stands. Emongg talks about adapting in games all the time. This ball should have either switched or started VERY aggressively peeling for this doom that is ripping their backline (or focused on causing more heavy backline pressure themselves, but that's much tougher to learn).

I picked ball in quickplay once and our Moira immediately went "I'm not healing you, ball." He would go out of his way to not heal me. We didn't even leave spawn before he decided to throw because we had a ball... on a control map. I never asked for healing, I just started gobbling health packs since he said he wouldn't heal me. I stood in front of him with low health one time and he shook his Moira head "no" so I didn't try again. But he was also saying stuff like "Oh, I need healing! Well that's too fucking bad I'm not gonna heal you one time, watch." . He went on like that for so long without me saying anything or complaining, that someone else came into vc and went "is ball talking? I don't hear him." He was arguing with himself so much that anyone who could hear him was confused. He also informed me that "they made ball when there were two tanks, you fucking idiot" so I guess the only viable tanks are... Mauga, Junkerqueen, and Ramattra?

I had a case in a quickplay match the other day where I was queued with a few friends and the other team had a really good wrecking ball that kept us on our toes the entire game. He was constantly diving the backline and getting cooldowns out of us. It seemed like I spent half the match peeling for my supports. We all agreed this ball was crazy and it was so shocking when the game was over on a tight victory on our part that three players on their team blamed the ball. The disconnect between the value your team and the enemy team sees in a good ball player can be substantial. All we noticed was how little the enemy would capitalize on the ball’s dives that left us vulnerable, but I guess all they saw was their tank rolling around the map. People gotta have more faith in their Wrecking Balls, they put in the work more often than not.

if the ball is doing good disruptive ball things I should be relatively free to stay back and do some nice damage soooo sometimes it’s real nice :)) If they are truly a bad ball I’ll simply switch if I’m lacking survivability with Ana. There is no point in being a jerk and asking for them to switch considering there is a high chance I’m in quick play and not ranked anyway (even if it was ranked, I may ask for a swap, but not before looking at our comp and figuring out what I can swap to to help!!!).

Entirely depends on your playstile. Agressive Anas like to play with Ball because he doesn't relay much on healing and also gives plenty windows of opportunity for free aiming at the enemy to splash big nades and secure kills. Anas that prefer to healbot tanks in front of them hate Ball because they can't build ult fast enough and have less layers of protection in front of them.

Playing aggressive doesn’t mean i have to play in the enemy teams ass with tracer. Playing back doesn’t mean I am playing passively. Once you get the hang of the movement, it really opens the maps up for some shenanigans. He had ult and you had mega health pack to pick up down main alley. Finishing kills is important when you had a character out of position like he was. The reason is simply that people don't like playing around Ball. Even if you're doing well, Ball is not a fun tank to have on your team.
You're trading all frontline presence for the ability to be a nuisance to the enemy, which means that your teammates get no cover, no peel and no space.
It can be effective, but if there's a good ball player in a match, they are the only person having fun.

@ I feel like the frustration comes from people not understanding how to play with a ball (or don’t want to change their playstyle). You have to have good game knowledge and positioning to capitalize on his engagements. He does all the things your typical tank does, but in a different way.
Gotta use that natural cover like it’s your tank and the team has to take the space/map control when ball engages. He creates space by causing a distraction and forcing the enemy team to peel. A lot of my issues arise when my team doesn’t know how to take map control on my engages. He does kinda suck at peeling though so I’ll give you that one. I fell like it just takes a playstyle adjustment but people want to play the game the way people want to play the game. Including myself 🐹

Is CarryPotter a streamer mode name? Cause if not, I can attest that this person is self centred and cannot comprehend Dive as a concept. Played with an LW by that name once before and they flamed me despite gripping me off cooldown making it impossible to go for punches as Doom. They also don't seem to understand that others may have a plan when they go to less good cover. Not saying I was playing perfect, but pulling back into my team during my punch is a tad annoying.

As a counter to the perceived value argument, sometimes ball is doing tons of work distracting the enemy backline, but his own backline is actually dying to the enemy tank. Not saying that was happening in this game, but even a solo ball playing pretty well can be a net negative for the team if he is doing less than the enemy tank at the same objective.

what i noticed is that they never went behind the enemy through flank routes nor went for high ground boops/displacement; if they did that then they would be doing a lot more work with hampter instead of always going down main, clearly visible to everyone on enemy team, and not making much space or paranoia for enemy
they would also follow enemies like genji hiding away deep in their backline which lets the enemy push for free
also too much time in crab form and not enough in abusing boop spam / grapple
after 500h of hampter, i would focus a lot on the value of disruption and flanks on maps! also, mines are a free ult pmuch, use it for free area denial or point contesting; otherwise to split the team so they cant go back down main to reach their allies, forcing feeding or retreats. just make sure people are there that can actually follow up on your mines. they also allow you to defend / attack two spots at the same time

Is spinning around in circles with grapple a good play?

    • @WunderWulfe
      @WunderWulfe Месяц назад

it depends on the enemy team composition, where you are spinning, and why you are spinning
if the enemy is running a CC heavy comp, it is likely that spinning will be too predictable and you will end up stunned out of grapple in a suboptimal position
its an easy way to contest points, build ult, deny space, and force a C9, but often times you will find other things such as bouncing off of walls and holding onto grapple in general to be able to displace people more than once will help you get more value out of your grapple cooldowns
grapple is an incredibly strong ability not just for mobility, but also for constantly throwing people out of position, and denying them access to optimal shooting locations. this often matters more than simply going in to try and kill them, or spinning around when everyone is busy shooting at your teammates instead of pushing in, as does baiting people to peel one target just to abuse your mobility to go after another, or isolate them even further from the team fight, or getting out important cooldowns since yours are so short
say the enemy is playing roadhog and cassidy, maybe sombra (junkrat especially cuz of trap). spinning around probably wont do you any favors. instead, you can try and push the supports out of position and force a peel from the other support; this leaves hog and the frontline vulnerable and you can double back to shove hog or cass deeper into your back line and secure a kill with your team. you can skip the support part if the tank/dps is out of position, since the supports will have to expose themselves to be able to save those players, and you might be able to disrupt that or take advantage of it with a well positioned team that can punish this
if they are playing brawl or otherwise a really clumped together team, it can be difficult to get much value with him, but you can always build ult very quickly through boops, mid range poke, and piledrivers, and drop mines to force them to spread out
a lot of wrecking ball is situational and playing mind games with the enemy; things you will learn over time as you develop valuable mechanical skills, match experience, and map experience, but i hope this helps to understand your question and maybe a bit more about the hamster!
i recommend watching top players just to get a glimpse of how they use grapple and move around the map if you are curious about what to learn and pick up. dont need to copy them play for play, just observe and take notes for engagements
      🐹🤙

@moonyfruit i completely agree that there has to be some intent to aid in peel, but again we are talking lower elo lobbies who also have very little knowledge of good positioning. I mean i see it all the time of anas playing so close to their tank the end of the barrel is clipping the tanks artwork. Im not saying that a ball or doom is meant to be in the backline 100% of the time cause that would be crazy, but my experience is that when a “healer” gets dove once “you need to protect us” meanwhile they will not fire their weapon at the enemy diving them. So yes you have to peel for your team but also the supports need to position better and in some cases in low elo lobbies…. Actually fight back

We kept telling him to swap because he was just feeding, and we even pointed out his poor K/D and damage stats. His response? “That’s because they’re playing anti-Ball,” referring to their Mauga. We told him, “Then swap off Ball to counter the Mauga.” Even their Mauga agreed with us in the game chat while we were typing. But the Ball player refused to switch, and we ended up losing as everyone on the team out-fragged him-even the Mercy, who had a whopping 70 damage.

Wrecking ball is the only tank i've ever truly played, with 250+ hours on him. I have to take breaks because of teammates like this because my will is just not strong enough to deal with it sometimes LOL, especially with it now being one tank it gets frustrating because it feels like theres so much more pressure.
Watching this video also sort of made me realize how smooth my ball is (in comparison), my hours have given me plenty time to move smoothly around maps, play against many different heros and comps, have good grapple and slam spots, etc. Though im in similar rank just from one tricking ball (plat 3), If i played more comp, especially with the right people, I think I could climb more, but my own mental really holds me back I'd say, and these teammates make it more difficult. (I'll literally be 3-5 stacking with the same people regularly of higher and lower ranks and they have never really seen my ball because im just too worried, even if im significantly higher rank and could probably carry and enable them, or if they're higher than me and could carry and enable me).

My one issue with wrecking ball is when I dive with them on a flank and they just dip right away just a slam and go then I have to disengage using cool downs like I seriously don't understand how I'm supposed to play with one, unperseved value is good but when everyone on their team just choses to ignore them and walk through our team 5v4 because the wrecking ball didn't apply backline support is annoying, bad ball players ruined the perception of ball so when someone applies backline pressure and flanks your team is already tilted on character selection screen

I will say Ball can be a very unfun tank to have on your team. 2. SLAM THAT ASS. He slams people on the edge of his range. Slam right on that ass, shoot that ass as theyre falling down and get that melee. It's like Winston jump melee burst damage.
