This was 1990. He mentions how he wouldn't have believed it if you told him he'd be rocking after all these years? It's now 34 years later and he's still rockin.
What a wonderful moment captured on screen. Someone said it best: to see Meryl Streep, the greatest actor in history, reduced to being a giddy schoolgirl meeting her idol, arguably one of the greatest singer songwriters in history. When two forces of nature collide. Magic. ❤
Funny to see a world-class talent like Meryl Streep instantly reduced to being a star struck teenage girl. You can see she's absolutely thrilled to meet Paul (6:46). Great clip; thanks for posting.
What a great memory that was....recording this on a vhs tape and watching this over and over....was so thrilled for Paul, and he looked sooooo good 💜 ....I would've been just like Meryl, just a fangirl so happy to be near him....Meryl looked so lovely and I envied her because Paul kissed her 3 times !!...lol....thanks so much for sharing this. 💗 : ))))))
Thank you for sharing. I remember recording this when it was on tv in the 90s because it had two of my faves Paul and Meryl. Good to see this again. Life was much simpler then. To paraphrase Paul, if he and we had known then what was going to happen to the world, we wouldn’t believe it. But as before, there is hope. God is saving us. Believe.
In 1990, I was pissed about this. Paul canceled his 1990 tour stop in Boulder, where I was going to see him perform for the first time, to get this award. I finally got to see him in 1993, when he did go through with the Boulder show.
Exactly! Fingertips by Stevie Wonder was released in 1963. Paul was 21 years-old at the time. He was already a Beatle and had been a member of John’s group the Quarrymen (along with George) in the late 1950s. They changed their name to The Beatles in 1960. What is Billy talking about? His timeline is completely off.
1:16 Is she saying they opened the Shea Stadium 1965 concert with I Saw Her Standing There? They didn't play it at that show - They opened with Twist And Shout.
Then next year, John Lennon was to receive an Lifetime Achievement Award. Because if it wasn't for John, Paul, you'd be working on the docks as a longshoreman in Liverpool.

Both the greatest in what they do
The quiver in her voice the entire time 😭
" Lennon and McCartney are the greatest composers of the 20th century"----Leonard Bernstein.....it's not 'arguable.'

Meryl Streep's speech is beautiful and touching
I love this so much and it moves me so much. I love him.
I think that might be his best acceptance speech.
I saw her standing there is "my song" ***
and I love him~
Fun fact...the Beatles didn't play "I Saw Her Standing There" at Shea Stadium. She must have been thinking of "Twist and Shout".
THank You uploading this I have on VHS and tape gone I never thought see it again THANK YOU

Yes for sure!!! I would stay up for every interview 80"s and 90's to record VHS! LOL So I know!
I recorded this too. I remember Milli Vanilli "performed" here earlier.
Thanks for sharing this.
The 🐐
If they werent married to their spouses I would thought Paul and Meryl were lovers, kissed 3x on the lips.
She could not resist. It could be her only chance. Such a fan girl! If I had a chance to kiss Paul McCartney, you better believe I'd do it.
Nice video ....i like 90'S MUSIC
I love all decades of music. Especially the music that you can hear what decade it is just by the way it sounds!

i have the Paul round circle over the head of Meryl hanging above them on my wall
Well done Billy!!!!!

No one asked
kind of a dick thing to say, but ok.
More like the other way around. Paul wrote like all their hits
Nope. Paul would've been a teacher. Hard to know what John would've been.
